What's Up Everyone: Checking Out the Droid Ultra from Verizon Wireless
Hello and welcome back to Technobuffalo, I'm Todd Hazelton here today with Tim checking out the Droid Ultra from Verizon Wireless. This device will retail for $199 on August 20th and can be pre-ordered today. Let's take a quick look at this device.
The Droid Ultra has a five-inch display with a 720p resolution, which is quite impressive considering its slim profile. It's a lot thinner than we expected, measuring in at seven millimeters. We also have a nice Kevlar back here, and it's actually a unibody design, which gives the device a sleek look and feel.
In terms of camera capabilities, the Droid Ultra has a 10 megapixel camera with a single LED flash, similar to its predecessor, the Droid Max. However, unlike the Droid Max, the battery on this device is smaller due to the lack of 48-hour usage time. The battery is located on the right side of the phone, and we have the volume buttons and power button on top. The soft touch buttons are also present on the bottom of the phone, along with a micro USB charging port.
One thing that's worth noting is the absence of any additional features on the left-hand side of the device. There's no 3.5 millimeter headphone jack, which may be a disappointment for some users. However, we do have two gigs of RAM and a 1.7 gigahertz dual-core processor. Interestingly, Motorola is marketing this as an "X8" sort of eight-core technology, although it's unclear how much impact this will actually have on the device's performance.
In terms of software, the Droid Ultra runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, which should provide a smooth and stable experience for users. However, it's worth noting that there aren't many apps available for the device, so you may need to download some additional titles. We do have Ingress pre-loaded from Google, which is a fun game that uses your location to determine where you are in the world. You can also use Google Now by saying "okay Google now," although it won't work with my voice command.
Overall, I think this is one of my favorite devices announced recently, thanks to its slim profile and attractive color design. It's a nice follow-up to the Droid family of devices on Verizon Wireless, and it should appeal to fans of Android smartphones. The device will launch on August 20th for $199, and we'll also be receiving six months free of Google Play Music if you order it before September 30th.
