The Art of Crazy Car Swaps: A Look at the Weirdest Engine Swaps on the Internet
In the world of car enthusiasts, engine swaps are a beloved pastime. But when it comes to taking it to the next level, things can get very weird, very fast. In this article, we'll take a look at some of the most outrageous engine swaps that have taken place online.
First up, let's talk about Rob and his C5 Corvette swap. For those who don't know, Rob decided to swap out his car's original engine for a tiny 1.3 liter turbocharged 13V engine, which somehow managed to produce around 550 horsepower. And get this - it sounds like the engine is making a "stuck pig" noise! That's not all - Rob has already purchased a salvage C8 Corvette and plans to swap in an even more potent rotary engine, no doubt sending his pants into a twist.
Honorable mention must go to Standkes_garage, who attempted to take their Honda RSX-powered car and swap it with a dual LS engine setup. Sounds ambitious, right? Well, they only managed to get one LS engine to work, but that's still a pretty bold move. The Monolist seems to be keeping them on their toes.
But if you thought those swaps were crazy, just wait until we get to the Ford Crown Victoria twin turbocharged tank engine swap. Yes, you read that right - a 27-liter V12 engine, originally from British tanks, has been shoehorned into an American cop car in Sweden. How did it happen? We're not entirely sure, but if you want to know more, check out the MeteorInterceptor YouTube channel.
And then there's the Volkswagen Jet Bug, which took things to a whole new level of absurdity. This car features an auxiliary jet engine mounted in the trunk, keeping the original engine under wraps for passing smog tests in California. The price tag? A whopping $550,000 on Craigslist last year.
But what really takes the cake is the sheer audacity of Ron's VW project. He wanted a faster car, but didn't want to deal with the hassle of passing emissions tests, so he decided to keep the original engine under the hood and mount an actual jet engine in the trunk. The result? An engine that produces around 1350 horsepower, making this car one of the most bonkers on the list.
