First Flight Experience with the Femi 3 Drone
I was excited to try out my new Femi 3 drone and see how it would perform. The drone itself is lightweight and easy to maneuver, making it perfect for flying over open spaces without disturbing anyone. I chose a location with minimal wind and a clear flight path to get started.
As I began to fly the drone, I was immediately struck by its responsiveness. The controls felt natural and intuitive, allowing me to make smooth adjustments to the drone's altitude and direction. However, I soon discovered that the drone was quite susceptible to wind currents and gusts. Despite flying in an area with minimal wind, the drone still struggled to maintain stability.
I decided to test the drone's capabilities by flying it over a nearby ghost town. The drone performed well, but I did notice some minor issues with footage quality. While the 1080p resolution was stable for the most part, there were moments where the image broke up or became distorted. I'm not sure if this is due to the drone's firmware or limitations in its sensor capabilities.
One feature that impressed me was the drone's auto-landing system. When I lost control of the drone or it began to descend too quickly, the auto-landing system kicked in and brought it back down safely. This was a great safety feature and gave me confidence when flying the drone.
As I continued to fly the drone, I discovered some minor issues with its build quality. The LED strip on the bottom of the drone was quite prominent, but I did notice that it could be a bit finicky at times. Additionally, the controller's battery life lasted for about three flights, which is adequate but not ideal.
One feature that set my drone apart from others in this price range was its price point. At $279, the Femi 3 offers an unbeatable value for beginners or those looking to upgrade their drone game without breaking the bank. While it may not have all the bells and whistles of more expensive drones like the Female x8 se, it's a great option for those who want to dip their toes into drone flying without spending too much.
Overall, my experience with the Femi 3 drone was mostly positive. The controls were responsive, the auto-landing system was reliable, and the price point was hard to beat. However, I did notice some minor issues with wind susceptibility and footage quality that may be worth exploring in future firmware updates.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enChris hey back with a drone review so this is the Femi a3 and it's the cheaper model from them they have the x8 SC that I reviewed a couple of months ago very good 4k drone it sells for about 499 us check my channel for the review of that one but this model here sells for about 279 us it's a lot cheaper so is it half the drone while a little spoiler here yes it is of course it's only 1080p 30 frames per second with a one kilometer range to it the controller has a screen built into it so you're first-person view is in the control you don't need to pair it up with your mobile phone but this is an ideal drone I think for beginners for people out there that don't want to spend a lot perhaps a gift for say your teenager or something you don't want them crashing a thousand dollar drone and neither do they and this is ideal for starting out getting into drones and learning how to fly them something like this so start with what you get inside the box you've got an instruction leaflet one is just a disclaimer hazard safety warning and the other is just a QuickStart guide for that here is our controller so the build of this controller is very good it has its own screen that can be a little bit hard to make out in sunlight there really should have included a shade for this one here so we've got the flight controls here with the two joysticks so it's straight up to gain altitude down to descend and then left and right here is to rotate the drone itself so clockwise or counterclockwise and then we have move forward move back move left and move right with the drone sticks right here so those are the controls for going through the menu system which I'll get onto soon as it's a return home and it switches to go from the GPS to the sport mode right here and that is course as to power it on so pairing honors you just simply press and then press again and hold it down so along the bottom here we do have some ports so we've got micro USB in there to charge it this is micro SD card slot here for firmware updates of the controller itself and also if you wanted to use the DVR mode so you can actually record the the fpv view so the first-person view on you what you're saying here can recall in here but I've had a few problems with that that it's not actually recording correctly and sometimes it's cutting out and it's not so clear and actually when it starts to record there and this port right here looks like a 3.5 millimeter but it's actually video out for this right here if you were happening to use goggles so on the back of it we have two triggers right here okay so one of them is for the D Y I button that you could for example connect up smoke to it to LED lights that would be to turn or trigger that on and off and here's to take a photo so just quick press as a photo press and hold as to start or to stop a video and then we have right at the top here exposure and then the gimbal control here with the controller so you get this cable to plug into the battery pack which I'll show you right here so this battery pack is twenty two point two watt hours and gives us a flight time of only about fifteen sixteen minutes in my experience but apparently has another charger not the one that's included they will actually give you around 20 minutes or so flight time a little bit longer and due to a different method of actually how it charges so right here there is the connector for it so this just connects straight into it and then we have the the charger here which is 14 volts that connects up to it this plugs straight into there and into the battery so you can't actually where you can actually charge it sorry with the battery connected and plugs into it now this battery itself will not fall out and you cannot fly it without actually having it clipped in properly so right here is a micro SD card slot micro USB 2 port and you can see that this it clips in with a nice click so your SD card is safe in there and there's no way that this is going to come out in flight and have the battery drop out like some of the earlier DJI drones we have a micro USB cable as well that's for connecting up to the controller and also connecting the drone up to your PC if you had to do a firmware update you need to transfer file over now I've updated all the firmware on this particular model there's guides on the internet on how to do it it's not actually that difficult and you get six propeller blades here so that is good they give us a spear counterclockwise in clockwise one just in case you happen to damage one of them now the boat of the drone itself is very good it's very similar to the media and 4k so there's no flaws that I can find with the build there's no sharp edges anything like that you've got their typical little LEDs on here there are little rubber feet so the when it actually sits down you can see that there's no way if your ground of course is smooth and flat that the camera will end up hitting the ground here so it's a nice level landing that it has or those tiny little rubber feet there so installing the props is quite easy they are spring-loaded so just like the x8s see that i reviewed you simply need to just press them on here and then rotate and that's on so make sure you have the correct one though because there are different ones if you put the props on wrong the drone will end up flipping around so you can see with this particular propeller there's a little red mark here make sure the prop also has the red mark when you install it otherwise you will be in for a surprise when you go to take off and yes it is possible to accidentally install the wrong one so you have to take a lot of care when you're actually doing this because watch this is the white one okay so there's no red markings on it I can install that perfectly fine but of course when you go to take off the drone will just flip over and crash you're on the bottom of the drone there are no downwards facing sensors so it has a lot less sensors than the x8 escena course this is a more budget version so the camera inside here this is a Sony sensor that it has 1080p 30 frames per second maximum or 25 frames per second up to a maximum 60 megabits per second bitrate so sadly there is no 1080p 60 frames per second mode which I feel it should have and right here is the connector port for the D Y button so this is where and of course with the mount right here you could end up just mounting for example a parachute on the back of this led's fireworks smoke as well as possible to mount there now the camera is isolated here with some little rubber mounts okay so you can see it's going to take some of the vibrations and things off the drone itself it's a 2xs gimbal that it's got on here it's another three and but it does have three access electronic image stabilization as you see later with my footage now I very quickly run through our controller so you've got all your basic information right here what you're seeing from the gimbal the camera will be displayed here once that's paired up now it automatically pairs up out of the box you don't have to go through any pairing procedure at least I didn't with my drone right here so the menu is Conner straightforward right here it will be I said it was a touchscreen but I guess of course what the price of this is selling for about 270 us they have to cut corners somewhere so you've got your camera settings now one annoyance that you always have to go in here and set the picture quality for video by default it's always on the 40 megabits per second so before I took off with my own flight I had to go into this and set it to 60 and you have to do that every time if you want the best quality that is options here for the exposure your ISO as well and GPS mode settings wireless channel settings you can change that flight mode settings okay you're smart flight if you wanted to do some of those features that they do have and just quickly show you that so pressing down on the controller brings it up so you've got the audio takeoff auto landing that's all there those controls to orbit flight and it didn't work for me when I pressed it because I think you need to press and hold when I took a further flight as you'll see soon and with my footage so heatless mode selfie mode they've got all those kind of gimmicky kind of modes there if you did want those but you have to be very careful where you are because some of those could get into trouble okay so the orbit one if you've got trees around you ever things like that never never run it because it will just crash the drones straight away and any time I've actually crashed the drone is using those modes that's why try not to use them peirong if you need to do that calibration if you need to go through that as well so the RC calibration had the gimbal the horizon if it's off that's what you need to go into and calibrate that and it's all very straightforward and once you get used to it you even got flight record right here and in system settings from this you can go in and also format your micro SD cards if you wanted to do that you can format it straight in the controller and also in the drone now I did have a problem with the controller that I used 128 gigabyte SSD a Samsung one my christy it didn't recognize that okay so when I went back and used 32 gigabyte one that worked in the controller but in the drone itself 128 gigabytes and 64 gigabytes samsung micro SD s were perfectly fine but let's go out now I'm going to head out to my typical place in less rotors in Denia that's in Spain a coarse Mediterranean coast and we'll take it for a test flight ok so that just manually turning it on and then we're just up on the stick for attitude okay I wanted to test the hover of the drone it ought to hover their wall a little bit of wind so it's getting blown around a lot actually as you can see at the moment now I will start recording it's gonna press and hold the record button and it should now be recording which it is okay so I get a bit more altitude I'm quite close to two walls here drone noise as you can hear it's a noisy little drone go head out towards now the tower I've got visuals on it at all times I have the settings set to the altitude requirement here for Spain which of course is the hundred and twenty meters you can't actually override it I don't think either so I'm just rotating around we've got a view there of the tower so that's my interest point the tower of iron it's called Tata to the yet or so some of the signal is breaking up here on the FPV view so the first person view okay so we're just try and get a look which does making it a little bit harder actually to get the shots you want because of your view from this that you know you can't really see and it doesn't seem to be updating as fast as I would like either different some interference it's coming through it's a good shot there of the tower and I'll just see if I can get a shot here if I bring it around sorry that's me it's not getting blown around that's me just a bit a little bit rusty with the controls here so get a nice little orbital shot now you do have the smart miles we can get the orbit shot there yourself the problem is it will stop my recording here so I just want to do this all in one go they record the land a test flight here I can still see the drone a little white dot out there so this tower was constructed in the belief 17th century and it's was actually against pirate Raiders so I'll give you the view later on from the tower to the actual castle it's quite hard to make out what is on the screen here at the moment because I mean I can get all my key details the voltage there the battery life which is good but what I'm actually recording is quite hard so in the background there right at the top of the image that's our our castle there if I bring the gimbal up now you'll see it then so you can see right there that's the castle in the distance and that used to connect out well or they probably had a huge fire or something to signal the tower when the pirate invaders were coming so I just get another little shot here bring it down a little the gimbal okay there we go so this I can just see on the screen but it's breaking up and it doesn't work there we go broke in breaking up a game okay so I bring the gimbal back up excuse the jerkiness here I just trying to be as smooth as possible a little bit rusty so hitting back towards where I am and well let's just gain a little bit of altitude altitude here it's getting blowing around a little bit okay so this performance seems pretty good we're hitting about 10 meters per second they're real I saw these are bendin houses here but it's a perfect place to fly a drone where you're not going to actually bother anyone okay and fly over myself here let's get a little bit of altitude still forward on the stick here oops bird it's a little sparrow okay very easy to fly actually hopefully the shots are coming out okay it's so hard to see the screen as mentioned so it's really just up just in front of me now you can hear it a little loud definitely getting blown around all over the place this is a lot lighter this drone it seems to be way more susceptible to the wind there is really no wind here around it's just a light breeze that seems to be affecting it quite a bit okay straight in front of me here now take it in nice and easy I've got some walls around here so have to be careful because it is blowing around all over the place all right here we go okay I'll just turn it around it seems to want to be Auto landing by itself look okay I'll bring it down now okay and there we go successful first flight of the the--my the femi a three okay so I'll try and keep this a little bit quick sometimes I drag the ends out just a little bit too long but a quick recap here flight time is disappointing so I was expecting about twenty minutes maybe because they say 20 turn perfect conditions but in my experience it did go for another flight that I didn't record 1516 minutes max that's all we gonna get and I was not pushing it a lot a lot of hovering around didn't really have much went now the susceptibility of this drone to wind currents and gusts is quite high I believe because where I was flying in between the ghost town and the tower there's always a little bit of a current coming down through there and it was blowing around all over the place so when I got up a little bit of high where there were some gusts of wind it didn't give me a wind warning but it did go all over the place and you can see it in some areas with the footage too that wasn't quite as stable in terms of footage for 1080p it's good but I do believe it needs to have a 1080p 60 frames per second option would have been really good maybe with firmware they can add that if the sensor supports it but perhaps because of the battery life or something is why they haven't done that so the footage is good it's stable for the most part but not as stable as the female x8 se which I highly recommend to go for if you can spend the extra about 130 us well worth it over this model so the build quality is very good it's a lot of fun to fly it does have that dy I port that I showed you in the start there so if you did I think you could buy the extras they sell them separately so LED strip you can even have like a little parachute you can release and have it drop down like a little man or something like that and even smoke too so you could have like a little smoke canister thing there to ignite and to fly around and you know maybe something interesting to the hair that option is quite good there so that is a real positive there control the build too as well as good and the controls the quality of the feel of buttons all good the menus it's okay it's it's a little bit kind of Columbus abut overall you do get used to it so the controller battery life will last for about three flights which is what you want of course and you can plug that in with micro USB to charge it but you must of course use the battery charger they supplied for the drone itself which takes around a couple of hours also to charge that now the screen I found in direct sunlight as I commented on when I first started to fly getting ready to fly there it was hard to make it out so you really do need a shade for it I think and the range now I can't because of the local laws here I can't fly out of visibility so it couldn't test the range but it's gonna be about a kilometer and some of the what I was seeing the video who was also breaking up and around I think for the price of this for the 279 US you're getting a lot and a decent drone for that for people that don't want to spend a lot for beginners perhaps as a gift for a teenager or something so you don't want them to crash $1000 even the x8s see a $500 drone that's probably the one to start out with thank you so much for watching this review and please do catch my review of the Femi x8 se which is over here and please do also like and subscribe for more tech videos from me bye for nowChris hey back with a drone review so this is the Femi a3 and it's the cheaper model from them they have the x8 SC that I reviewed a couple of months ago very that is a real positive there control the build too as well as good and the controls the quality of the feel of buttons all good the menus it's okay it's it's a little bit kind of Columbus abut overall you do get used to it so the controller battery life will last for about three flights which is what you want of course and you can plug that in with micro USB to charge it but you must of course use the battery charger they supplied for the drone itself which takes around a couple of hours also to charge that now the screen I found in direct sunlight as I commented on when I first started to fly getting ready to fly there it was hard to make it out so you really do need a shade for it I think and the range now I can't because of the local laws here I can't fly out of visibility so it couldn't test the range but it's gonna be about a kilometer and some of the what I was seeing the video who was also breaking up and around I think for the price of this for the 279 US you're getting a lot and a decent drone for that for people that don't want to spend a lot for beginners perhaps as a gift for a teenager or something so you don't want them to crash $1000 even the x8s see a $500 drone that's probably the one to start out with thank you so much for watching this review and please do catch my review of the Femi x8 se which is over here and please do also like and subscribe
