Apple AirPods vs $53 Knockoffs

Comparing i-10 TWs Air Pod Knockoffs to the Real Deal

There are tons of fake AirPods out on the market today, some of which are bad and others that are almost one-to-one carbon copies. The i-10 TWs Air Pod knockoffs that we got from a website called Nikes.com are more of the latter. When it comes to unboxing experience, while the company tried its best to emulate Apple, it's not quite the same as getting your hands on the real deal. You do get some instructions which are pretty useful to figure out how exactly these headphones work and then the Air Pod look-alikes along with a USB type-C charging cable.

The use of USB C instead of lightning for charging is one of the first significant differences between the two. It's a pretty noticeable difference when you're looking at the bottom of each case, especially since we assume that once iPhone makes its way to USB C, pretty much all products including AirPods will join them. The other notable difference about the knockoff case is that there is an LED charging indicator light on the front and no Bluetooth pairing button on the back. At first glance, the look and feel of each case are pretty similar but the real AirPods are slightly heavier than the i-10 TWs when you finally open up the case.

The magnetic lid on the Air Pause feels super sturdy while the i-10 TWs makes this weird clicking noise every time you open the lid, which honestly feels like it's about to break every time I open it. There's what looks like an LED indicator sandwiched in between the headphones but it's only there for cosmetic purposes and doesn't actually light up like on real AirPods. The headphones themselves however are a near carbon copy of AirPods, so much so that I needed to be careful not to mix them up with my real AirPods. Almost every detail is perfectly matched to resemble the real deal.

The most impressive aspect of these knockoff headphones is their sound quality. AirPods aren't the most amazing sounding headphones in the world but they sound really good for what most people use them for, and I have no issues with the sound quality whatsoever. The i-10 TWs even sound pretty close to real AirPods, especially when it comes to call quality. My wife on the other line stated that it seemed like I was using speakerphone and she didn't really notice much of a difference between these and real AirPods when making phone calls.

The right headphone does have the ability to play pause music with a single tap and double tap to skip tracks as well as a two-second hole to activate a voice assistant like Siri. These touch functions were also easier to activate than on real AirPods, although I'm not quite sure why it was so much easier for me to find the touch area on the knockoffs.

One feature that you do lose out on with these knockoff headphones is the auto play pause feature when removing or inserting a headphone into your ear. This isn't a deal-breaker for me personally but it is a nice feature that real AirPods can offer. As far as battery life and charging goes, the headphones claim they can get you about three hours of streaming which has been pretty accurate so far. It takes about an hour and a half to fully charge these headphones and they also support Qi wireless charging, which is a feature that's rumored to be in upcoming AirPods.

The i-10 TWs sell for around $50 on Nikes.com, which is where we got them from or Amazon but there are other websites out there that carry these exact headphones for slightly cheaper. For $100 less than actual AirPods, you get most of the same sound quality, the same fit in your ears, good touch functionality and wireless charging capabilities. However, you'll lose out on the W1 chip for quick pairing and seamless integration with other iOS devices. Pairing the 110s isn't really hard but it still requires a bit more work than what you'd expect from real AirPods.

If you've been wanting a pair of AirPods but don't want to spend the money on an actual pair, these cheaper alternatives are well worth the $50. Let me know what you think of these headphones if you own a pair or if you want to pick one up.
