The Fly Digi Apex: A Gaming Controller Review
I recently purchased the Fly Digi Apex controller from Aliexpress, and I was excited to put it through its paces. As an Android user, I've always struggled with traditional gaming controllers, so I was eager to see if this innovative device would meet my needs.
One of the first things I noticed about the Fly Digi Apex is its build quality. The controller feels solid and premium in my hands, with a comfortable weight that's balanced perfectly between portability and stability. The ergonomic design also makes it easy to hold for extended periods, which is essential for long gaming sessions.
The controller features 16 programmable buttons, as well as a D-pad and analog sticks. I was pleased to find that the analog sticks were incredibly responsive, with a smooth and precise feel that's similar to traditional gaming controllers. The trigger mechanism also feels great, and I found myself enjoying the subtle half-throw feature that allows for more nuanced control.
One of the standout features of the Fly Digi Apex is its ability to map buttons on-screen using the popular pubsey app. This feature makes it incredibly easy to customize the controller to my liking, with options to set up touchscreen buttons, d-pad mappings, and even create complex button combinations. I also appreciate the transparency control, which allows me to toggle the visibility of on-screen overlays with ease.
I decided to test the Fly Digi Apex with some popular Android games, starting with Minecraft. To my delight, the controller worked seamlessly in Classic mode, with precise analog stick movement and accurate trigger feedback. The D-pad was also remarkably responsive, allowing for smooth movement and precision jumping. I was impressed by how well the controller performed, even when using the half-throw feature.
Next, I decided to test the Fly Digi Apex's compatibility with Android games that natively support controllers. To my surprise, most games recognized the controller without issue, including popular titles like PUBG Mobile and Ascentech. The only minor quibble was with a specific game that required me to reconnect the controller within the app.
I also decided to test the Fly Digi Apex's compatibility with various emulators on the Google Play Store. To my delight, the controller worked flawlessly in all cases, including Redream (Dreamcast emulator), PPSSPP (PSP emulator), and Dolphin (GameCube emulator). In each case, I was able to use the controller seamlessly, even when configuring settings within the app.
Emulation testing with the Fly Digi Apex has been a revelation. With the ability to map buttons on-screen and customize the d-pad mappings, I found myself enjoying the experience significantly more than traditional touchscreen controls. The only minor quibble is that the lack of center pivot in the D-pad can take some getting used to.
One potential drawback to consider is the cost of the Fly Digi Apex, which may be a barrier for some users. However, I believe that the controller's exceptional build quality, functionality, and compatibility make it an investment worth considering.
In conclusion, I'm thoroughly impressed with the Fly Digi Apex controller. Its innovative design, precise analog stick movement, and extensive button mapping capabilities make it an excellent choice for Android gamers looking to upgrade their mobile gaming experience. Whether you're an emulation enthusiast or simply a casual gamer, the Fly Digi Apex is definitely worth considering.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's going on guys the CTA Prime back here again recently I've been doing a lot of reviews on these mobile controllers for your Android or iOS device all of them have been the telescopic otherwise known as stretchy controllers your phone sits right in the middle personally the telescopic versions are my favorite but I've had a lot of people ask me about what I call top mount controllers recently I did a review on this controller this is the fly digi weed - and I personally really don't like it I'd rather use the città key seven zero zero seven X or at the new glop controller but it's a bit expensive so today I'm gonna get fly digi a second chance and test out their apex controller I call these top mountain controllers because your phone sits in a clip above the controller itself but before we get started I do want to mention that my go-to top mountain controller is actually a xbox one controller as long as you purchased an Xbox one s the controller you have with that system should have Bluetooth included and all you need is a simple three to seven dollar phone clip it'll pair right up with your Android device and you'll be good to go for emulators or mobile games from the Google Play Store that natively support controllers so you could also use some type of mapping software like octopus if you want to do pub G but some people have been known to get banned using it this way so with that out of the way let's go ahead and take a look at the flight digi apex controller there is something I need to mention here this is touted as having RGB built in for the center lights but I have found no way in changing the colors whatsoever in the manual it states that you can do it from within the game center app on Android or iOS but I cannot find the setting so you will be stuck with blue Center lights or you can turn them off from the controller itself so inside of the box we're gonna receive the apex controller and the phone clip the phone clip is detachable and this really does have a premium feel to it the controller will connect to your phone through bluetooth but they also include a 2.4 gigahertz dongle just in case your Android TV or your PC doesn't have Bluetooth included plus you can connect this through USB so there are three ways to get this connected to your iOS device your Android device or your PC you'll also get the user manual and I've read through this several times trying to change these RGB lights but I just can't find a way to do it it states that the app has it included but there's no option in the Android or the iOS app that I can find I got to say that this controller actually feels really good I was worried it was gonna be super cheap but the d-pad the analog sticks the buttons and triggers all feel really great and on the back here we also have the adjustable trigger throw or hair lock triggers that that's what you want to call it so you have a full compress or when you turn the lock on you'll have a half press of the L&R buttons the included phone mount should fit any phone on the market right now it even fits the note 10 plus there's a total of 16 action buttons on this controller that's not including the d-pad analog sticks or the home back and play button on the bottom of the controller itself on the front we have a B X Y start select Z + C + like I said we have the home button back button and play button on the bottom moving around back they've included four extra buttons M 1 M 2 M 3 and M 4 you can program these inside of the flight digi app the app is compatible with iOS and Android they've also included a power switch we have off on and if we set it to the middle section it will turn the lights off on the front of the controller and here's a quick look at the trigger locks so for LT and arty we can have a full throw or if we turn them on we can have a half throw one thing I really like about this controller is the rear rubber grips now it's not too soft it's actually kind of hard rubber here but it does have that texture to it and it makes for holding this thing feel really good on the top side right in the middle we have our microUSB for charging I really wish they would have swapped this out for USB type-c we also have shoulder buttons lb RB and our trigger buttons LT and the RT in total counting every button on here we have 19 buttons 2 analog sticks and a d-pad so now it's time to see how this thing performs I picked this up specifically for my Android devices so that's what I'm going to be testing it on in this video we're gonna be testing some android games that natively support controllers we'll also get into their mapping software so we can play some games that don't support controllers with this and then finally we'll get into a little bit of emulation pairing the controller up with my Android device or iOS was super simple I just turned it on and there's a little sync button which actually looks like a play button you're gonna hold that and be for the Android Mode you get the first LED flashing from the phone you want to connect to go to your Bluetooth settings and it's connected now on initial connection this is set up in classic mode otherwise known as X input mode so you can navigate your full Android operating system with the controller now this is perfect for games that natively support controllers or emulators but we can go into the fly digi app and switch it to the fly digi mode now this is gonna allow us to set up an overlay for on-screen buttons and when the corresponding button on the controller is pressed it'll act like a touch this is great for games like pop G flight did she claims that you won't get banned from pubsey using their mapping software now I haven't had any issues in the past couple weeks using the Wii - with their mapping software but in the past I have been banned using the octopus app and in the end I never used my main account when I'm using mapping software on Android for pup G just in case so first up I'm gonna stick with classic mode and I'm gonna test out a couple games that natively support controllers inside an Android like Minecraft and Fortnight first up we have something simple this is Minecraft Pocket Edition the flight digi apex that I'm using right here was already preset to classic mode so we're in X input mode this game works on Android with controller so you could use the Xbox one controller with Bluetooth if you want to so you have no trouble with the apex and minecraft the analog sticks are actually really nice on this thing I'm super surprised at how well this thing is built these controllers go anywhere from thirty to fifty dollars depending on where you buy them I paid 50 for mine I got mine on Amazon so I can get it pretty quick but if you check Aliexpress you can get it cheaper but expect longer shipping times so here's for at night you don't need to do any mapping at all for this game because epic added controller support for iOS and Android this is gonna work straight out of the box as long as it's in classic mode I do have the trigger set to half throw and I think it feels pretty good like this but you could always leave them the full throw if you want to now one thing I did really want to test was the accuracy on these and dog steaks they feel great they work fine in Minecraft but let's see how precise they are so I'm gonna stand still and I'm just gonna move it a little bit and yeah it's actually really precise so for sniping in a game like this this controller would be perfect you have complete control with these analog sticks you can move it just a tad if you need to gotta get closer this gun is horrible or you could go full-out with it so yeah the flight DG apex in classic mode works great with Android games that natively support controllers so now it's time to swap over to fly digi mode this will allow us to program the buttons on-screen I just need to hit this inside of the app but I've noticed that I cannot reconnect from within the app I need to go back to my bluetooth settings reconnect the controller and when I go back to the fly digi app I'm in fly digi mode you can test all of your buttons here everything works great and for most of the mainstream games they already have controller config setup so we have all the on-screen buttons I'm gonna get a bit closer so we can see this a little better I personally leave the controller can fix alone but if you want to customize it you can customize it from within the app by the little drop down fly digi logo you can set the buttons exactly where you need them on-screen so it is fully customizable and in theory you could use this with any app on the Google Play Store so it's working really well so far I do need to look a little closer to see what button does what but we now have all of the touchscreen buttons inside of pubsey mapped to a physical controller and as you can see it's really easy to aim with this now and if the on-screen overlay buttons are a distraction you can always turn the transparency all the way up so you don't see him at all but I kind of need them on-screen so I know exactly what button does what so yeah this is definitely better than the touchscreen controls at least for me I know there's some people out there that have kind of mastered the touchscreen but I personally just don't like it and finally the emulation test I've set it back to classic mode this is redream the Dreamcast emulator from the Google Play Store thrown a couple Hadoop khun's here with the d-pad and the analog stick it's working really great I did miss a couple hadouken x' but I could get used to this d-pad it's a little different because there's no center pivot but overall the whole controller feels great for innovation next up we have some PSP emulation using ppsspp the controller was automatically detected and I had to choose my cheat character here works great with PSP emulation and finally some GameCube emulation using the dolphin emulator I did have to set the controller up in the app itself like all controllers with this emulator but it does function perfectly normal when you have it set up so in the end I really enjoy using the fly digi apex controller if you're into these top mountain controllers this is definitely one to think about awesome build quality tons of functionality lots of buttons the analog sticks are great I do wish there was a pivot in the middle of the d-pad but this is something that you could get used to and battery life has been great for me they do clean 80 hours of battery life and I haven't reached that point yet with this controller but I did read a post over on reddit where a guy got a hundred hours out of one charge I do have to throw this in there if you're just gonna be doing emulation on your Android device and you already have an xbox one controller with Bluetooth built in just by a clip works in X input mode all of the emulators on the Google Play Store will recognize this controller but if you plan on doing a lot of mobile gaming where you will need a mapper the fly digi apex would be an awesome choice so that's pretty much it for this video guys I really appreciate you watching if you're interested in picking one of these up I'm gonna leave a few links in the description if you have any questions or you want to see anything else tested with the apex just let me know in the comments below but like always thanks for watching youwhat's going on guys the CTA Prime back here again recently I've
