The Ferrari 348 is Actually Quite Good (As Long as It's From the Right Year) - One Take

**A Hands-On Review of the Ferrari 348**

The author had the pleasure of driving a Ferrari 348, and their experience was nothing short of delightful. One of the first things they appreciated about the car was its brake pedal, which felt tight but well-spaced for heel-toe shifting. The clutch, while not particularly fast by modern standards, was still very light and responsive.

As the author settled into the driving position, they found that the 348's gated shifter provided a satisfying and engaging experience. They also appreciated the car's decent driving position, which would allow them to comfortably spend hours behind the wheel. The author noted that this particular car felt like it belonged in its class, with some noticeable chassis flex, but nothing that detracted from their overall enjoyment of the drive.

The 348's turning radius was not exceptional, but the independent double-wishbone suspension front and rear proved to be more than adequate for the task at hand. The author particularly enjoyed rowing through the gears in second and third gear, where they found a surprising amount of acceleration and responsiveness. This, combined with the car's smooth and well-balanced ride, made for an incredibly enjoyable driving experience.

As the author delved deeper into their test drive, they began to appreciate the 348's nuances and quirks. They discovered that the car required a gentle touch when shifting gears, which slowed down their acceleration times but added a layer of complexity to the driving experience. This trade-off was worth it for the 348's ability to straddle the gap between old-school driving experiences and modern performance.

One of the author's biggest takeaways from their time in the 348 was its suitability for everyday driving. They noted that, even with its lackluster acceleration numbers, this car would be a wise investment for anyone looking to add some excitement to their daily routine. With proper maintenance and care, the 348 would likely appreciate in value over time, making it an attractive option for those looking to own a piece of Ferrari history.

As the author concluded their review, they couldn't help but express their admiration for this particular car. They praised its well-balanced ride, smooth shifting, and engaging driving experience. Whether you're a seasoned classic car enthusiast or simply looking for a unique and enjoyable driving experience, the 348 is definitely worth considering.

**The Driving Experience**

The author's time in the 348 began with a gentle warm-up lap around the block. As they settled into their seat and began to shift gears, they were immediately struck by the car's smooth and responsive nature. The gated shifter proved to be particularly satisfying, providing a tactile feedback that made every gear change feel deliberate and engaging.

As the author continued to drive, they found themselves lost in the moment. The 348's lack of acceleration numbers was forgotten as they focused on the sensation of driving itself – the way the car responded to their inputs, the sound of the engine purring beneath them, and the feeling of weight transfer through the chassis. It was this immersive experience that truly made the 348 shine.

One aspect of the drive that did stand out was the author's tendency to get lost in the moment. They found themselves getting caught up in the rhythm of driving, often forgetting about the world around them as they focused on the road ahead. This wasn't necessarily a bad thing – in fact, it added to the overall sense of enjoyment and immersion that the 348 provided.

**The Verdict**

In conclusion, the Ferrari 348 is a truly exceptional driving experience. While its numbers may not be the most impressive, the car's ability to straddle the gap between old-school driving experiences and modern performance makes it an attractive option for anyone looking to add some excitement to their daily routine. "WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey folks here's a different one um my boy thaddeus is in town this week from dubai and uh he uh you may remember him from all cars go to heaven or all of his involvement over the years in in the smoking tire and he really wants to buy a ferrari 348. so we went on turo and uh rented this one uh this is a 1994. uh ferrari 348 spyder it has 73 000 miles on it it's powered by a 3.4 liter longitudinally mounted uh 32 valve v8 which for 1994 only made 316 horsepower in 1991 to 93 it made 296 horsepower and 238 pound-feet of torque good for 0-60 and 5.7 seconds the quarter-mile in 14-5 at 99 miles an hour topping out at 171. this is the first ferrari since the mondial to have a soft top and for 1994 there were a lot of improvements done over the 91 to 93 car for instance more power about 25 more horsepower revised suspension geometries they changed the gearbox the gear ratios themselves different gearbox uh they changed a bunch a bunch of chassis stuff and uh basically they made it uh better because the story goes i believe it was luca de montesemelo went wow that the the steering shaft is i kind of made a three-point turn there the steering shaft no power steering but the steering shaft is literally rubbing on my toe as i made that three-point turn basically the story goes that uh lucas showed up called it a piece of junk and said you better fix it they did nobody bought it anyway and so they put a new body on it and called it a 355. and that's the story so as the owner of a 328 what's it like to drive let's take a gander i don't know about you folks but when i'm at work the one thing i never bake into my schedule is time to eat it's because i'm always at the office in the mountains at the studio i'm running around i just i don't know where to even go find food today that's why i keep a box of these belt bars at the office that way i know that if i can't get a meal i have some sustenance to get me through the day these things have good macros plenty of protein between 130 160 calories each and they're really good flavors this one is a peanut butter brownie they have got a variety of flavors and they've got one thing in common which is that none of them tastes like protein powder which is like the one thing that kills me about protein bars i never want that these taste like three musketeers milky way that kind of texture really really nice you know we love more than delicious sustenance a deal and that's what i've got for you hit the link in the description and use code tst at checkout to get special pricing on everything built bar sells first impressions little more spacious than my 328 engine's a real sweetheart dogleg first gear gearbox feels similar to my car nice and smooth the non-assisted steering is really nice once you're moving and the engine vibrates at the most beautiful frequency that just its presence makes me happy this car is now old enough that i don't care that it's slower than a lot of other things from 1994 it always had a bit of middle child syndrome not as pretty or as amazing as the 355 and not as pretty and soulful as the 328 or as classic but now as this car approaches 30 years old maybe we can appreciate it in different ways brake pedal is tight but all the pedals are really well spaced for uh heel and toe clutch is very light it's not very fast i mean by modern standards it's not very fast now that doesn't mean at all that it's not fun definitely fun gated shifter is as satisfying as ever the driving position is pretty decent i could do a few hundred miles in this and be okay yeah i can wear my big my big 11 and a half wides i can wear those to drive this the heat works and you know ferraris even and we're talking about even up to even up to today even up to a current ferrari uh the spiders the the the non-coops targas and spiders they flex a little bit there's definitely noticeable chassis flex that's in this car too uh not exempt by any means but it's not it's not horrible actually it's not worse than like other cars of the period honestly porsches do it too turning radius not terrible independent double wishbone suspension front and rear i like rowing through the gears a whole lot in second and third gear it's a little quicker than the numbers would imply and i think the reason for that is your accelera your timed acceleration runs are really slowed down by the fact that you need to shift rather gingerly and that's that's just how these cars are you can't power shift them on a zero to sixty acceleration run not with a dog leg first so the quarter mile times and the zero to 60 times don't really indicate how quick the car feels to drive it's quick enough and it really does a really good job straddling the gap between an old car and a new car like i bet i would bet good money that if you bought one of these and just started putting miles on it that it would be a very wise investment not because the car is going to go up because you can get those miles at a deeply discounted rate it's a it's a really really lovely car to drive see how the you got to give it a big blip to match the revs but you got a lot of revs to work with yeah mr two oh hello guys everybody on a little drive this morning seems i'm not the only one with new year's day plans today man this is uh this is really a lot a lot a lot a lot of what i like about classic ferrari and ma and like this is a fabulous transitionary period really yeah this thing doesn't do 0-60 for but the kind of driving i like to do where you keep your momentum up in the corners and when you're really out here to experience the world alongside the vibrations and the songs of a beautiful engine beautiful inputs don't sleep on the 348 the 94s i haven't had a lot of experience with the early cars but anyone who knows 348s they all say the 94s are where it's at oh this is very good this is a very very good car first time driving it i still gotta you gotta figure out the uh the pedals but okay pretty decent ground clearance because it's 80s or 90s still developed in 80s it's very funny that when i turn the wheel with my foot on the clutch the actual column is is rubbing against my foot that's very funny yeah little creaky a little bit the clutch engagement is good though this car feels like it's a this is a great driver absolutely lovely steering is great too i mean it sucks to make three point turns but as soon as you're going over two miles an hour it's really really good i feel just enough but it's not super stiff it's got a good ride it really is absorbing things really well i hope you all are hearing me out there don't sleep on the 348. 348 is awesome ferrari vibes for days oh yes that is well that's quite good shout out to a dude named roland who's renting this thing out on turo in la for like 700 bucks a day bro that's money well spent that's money well spent all day every day and i hope thaddeus buys 355. now those may be true it's a fantastic driving experience that really ticks all the right sensory boxes for someone like me so anyway thanks for watching uh thanks to thaddeus for coughing up the
