**A Review of "Into the Water" by Paula Hawkins**
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading "Into the Water" by Paula Hawkins, despite some characters and plot points that left me frustrated. The novel is well fleshed out, with a large cast of characters, many of whom were written poorly. The author's depiction of sexist men who view women as objects was particularly grating, and I found myself becoming increasingly frustrated while reading about these characters' misogynistic attitudes. On the other hand, there were some intriguing characters that kept me engaged throughout the book.
One of the standout features of "Into the Water" is its use of multiple point of views. The novel jumps between various narrators, each with their own unique voice and perspective. This allowed the reader to gain a deeper understanding of the characters' motivations and emotions, as well as the events that led up to the mysterious deaths in the town. For example, we are treated to the perspective of the teenager who was found dead in the river three months prior, which provides insight into her grieving process and the emotional impact of her death on those around her. We also get to see things from Nell's point of view, the sister who returns to the town after many years away, carrying secrets and a sense of unease that makes her a complex and relatable character.
The author also explores themes of grief, trauma, and the power of women in this small, troubled community. As we delve deeper into the mystery surrounding the deaths, it becomes clear that each victim had their own unique story to tell, and that these stories are all connected by the presence of a river that runs through the town. The author masterfully weaves together these narratives, creating a sense of tension and suspense that keeps the reader engaged.
**The Ending: A Surprise**
One aspect of "Into the Water" that may have surprised some readers is its twist ending. Without giving too much away, I can say that the identity of the killer is revealed in the final pages of the book, and it's a revelation that was both shocking and, in hindsight, somewhat inevitable. While I won't give away any more details, I will say that the motive behind the murder was complex and multifaceted, and one that kept me guessing until the very end.
**The Author's Craft**
Paula Hawkins is a masterful storyteller, and her skill at crafting a compelling narrative is evident throughout "Into the Water". Her writing is evocative and engaging, with vivid descriptions of the small town and its residents. While some readers may find certain characters or plot points off-putting, I was thoroughly invested in the story from start to finish.
**Conclusion**
Overall, I highly recommend "Into the Water" to fans of psychological thrillers and mystery novels. While it's not a scary book per se, it's definitely suspenseful and engaging, with a complex web of characters and plot twists that will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you enjoy books like "Gone Girl" or "The Girl on the Train", I think you'll find "Into the Water" to be right up your alley.
**Spoiler Alert**
For those who may not have read the book, there is a spoiler ahead. If you're one of them, please feel free to skip this section and continue reading from the bottom of the article.
One thing that did surprise me was the identity of the killer. I won't give away any more details, but let's just say that it was someone who seemed like a minor character in the book, but had a significant role in the mystery. The motive behind the murder was also complex and multifaceted, and one that kept me guessing until the very end.
**A Final Word**
I must say that I'm still trying to process my thoughts on the ending of "Into the Water". While I knew it was going to be a twisty book from the start, I didn't see it coming. The author's skill at crafting a complex narrative and keeping readers guessing is truly impressive. If you enjoy books like this one, please let me know in the comments below!
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone sit in here to review a book for you today I'll be talking about into the water by Paul Oaxacan you're unfamiliar with Paul Hawken she also wrote the very popular book the girl on the train which came out into a movie last year which is Duluth my excited her latest released into the water if you know she writes psychological thriller so if that's something you're interested in keep watching even if it's not something you're interested in and also keep watching because I'll tell you a little bit more about it so basically with this video I'm going to tell you what this book is about my overall thoughts and opinions on it without spoiling it and there will be a brief spoiler section at the end literally just to talk about the end of the book because I like to keep most of you spoiler free but there are some look I think that you kind of have to talk about spoilers so I will be talking about spoilers very briefly in the end and I will let you know when I do so this book is all about character Nell Abbott who ends up dead and there's a river she leaves behind a 15 year old daughter and her sister and Nell sister comes to town to take care of her daughter after Nell is obviously dead also within this there is a teenage girl that ended up dead at the same exact River like three months prior so we're having a lot of deaths go in this river if you can tell basically what the book jacket says about so it's kind of very vague all you really know when you go into this book is that there are these two women that are that has somehow ended up dead in the river both of these murders they've actually been treated as suicide but when we read on in this book you learn maybe are they suus what we really think are they suicide are they murders you don't really know so basically this book is all about exploring at these two deaths and more in this book and it's so much more than I would say a murder mystery book this is a psychological thriller that is definitely very intriguing it was very intriguing and I find it very hard to summarize because of the fact that it was so different and kind of intriguing in my opinion and when you look like up on Goodreads it does not have the best refuse it's very mixed which I'm surprised do not surprised by because throw on the Train also has very mixed reviews I like the girl on the train and I like this book as well and I don't know if definite say I'm an easy to please reader or it's because I'm a psychological thriller I'm very very new to the genre I've only read maybe four or five than a donor so I could be just very easy to please when it comes to that genre and I'm not expecting too much so I don't know it's hard to gauge whether I'm like this is an amazing book or maybe I'm just like I have a remedy so I like it you know things that make sense but overall I think I did enjoy this book it was definitely different than what I expected this book is more than these two murders explores this really dark and like quiet town and this town this River runs through the whole towel like it's right in the middle and there's this river that runs through it like it's like wherever they say in the book where you turn the town we always end up somehow back at the river within this river she try to explain it I couldn't really understand it like their sharp turns and there's this place called the drowning pool where women have gone to die either committing suicide or things like that and that is where these two deaths take place and that's very it's very interesting like this river has been known for death and especially woman's death all about these people within this town and the secrets are they keep with these deaths honestly and all I can really can explain it to you I know that's such a horrible subnautica like with thrillers especially for a lot of people say unless you know going into it the better and I agree with this one and if you're worried about the scare factor before I continue because I myself am a scary cat reader I could not read horror genre will never attempt it in my life ever so this is this is not scary at all not at all like the girl the train was a little bit scary to me but it's not scary at all it's definitely a book that makes you think and you're trying to figure out things but it's not period also if you're worried about the scare factor you are good I promise just wanna throw it out there for people like me hey better always like Shango asthma scary to be moving on like I said I really enjoyed it there were so many characters in this book like the one downfall I will say I had was a smoke was the fact that there was multiple point of views like I'm used to kind of multiple interviews but this one had a lot like this is my whole post-it note it is full of characters like I had to write a post note of characters to let them know when there are like ones like sister was a daughter once the lawyer like I had to write notes there were so many points of views I was getting confused with which character which so that is the downside and comin up so I'm kind of mixed on that because it takes a while to get used to the multiple point of views that we have we have upwards I want to send eight or nine the point of views are used a lot in this book some point of views are using before or five times in this book it is a good thing and a bad thing about it because it takes you about fifty to sixty pages to really differentiate each character and like really identify and like know who each one of them is that refer to my post-it note midway through the book but it is like a little bit slow going with a point of views but I enjoyed that later on because this is such a fast read I think due to the multiple point of view so to have four or five pages from one point of view than when you have ten page then we would have ten pages of another point of view so and made it really really quick in fast to read with this point of view so like I said it's kind of a good / bad thing about it whatever you want to turn it is I'm doing it as a kind of good kind of bad thing as well since we're talking about things I didn't like the ending I wasn't a super huge fans ending I like it I don't love it I feel like it should have been explained more but I understand that it's not because it's kind of thrill it's kind of makes you think it's like a shopback or such thing so that I'm kind of mixed feelings with I'll give this book a rating I give it a 4 out of 5 I gave with the girl in the Train the same rating early I enjoyed her book and allows people very mixed about her I think he either enjoy her books or you don't I'm one that enjoys them so I like her writing sale I like the stories that she tells so yeah so far the trees all over the place it's a very weird book to read because it's so like different than any other psychological filler I've read going back to the woman who died in the drowning pool that's what they're calling it that the river that they call her name is Nell and she was a photographer which kind of freaked me out because I want photographer I was like oh let's go crazy so but she was she's a photographer and she was also researching this river that has gone through this town and she's lived in this town all of her life and she has always been fascinated with this river like it's always had like this like she's always have pool to this river so I swam in it she just had a connection with it and like I said this river has had multiple deaths she's writing this novel all about this river and this drowning pool has that trouble some women are often found up dead there she thinks are no trouble some women are gotten rid of their which it gets very intriguing what the character is going on to it learning more about your like why would troubles woman go die there like what happens so she is writing all about this river and you get to see glimpses of her writing with previous deaths in this river and it's so interesting like it's such an interesting concept for a novel all about this river that has all these multiple deaths connected to it and you're learning more about them like are they suicides are they murder or you know things like that and it's just it's more than just about Mel's death I think with this book a lot of people think is about this one woman to death it's not that you have a lot of like mystery type of things going on in this novel like four or five things going on and they all kind of tie up characters in this book so well fleshed out there were a lot of characters were written horribly like you hated them there were a lot of men in this novel that were sexist that were like think woman are horrible they don't want you know they were they were wanting to put women in their place and I was cold made me so mad at Paula Hawkins wrote it that way because I was getting so frustrated
