Unboxing the Flip Mino HD: A Second-Generation Camera with a Touch of Improvement
Today, we're going to do an unboxing of the new Flip Mino HD, often referred to as the second-generation or aluminum Flip. I purchased this at Costco and it came bundled with the HDMI cable, one of the added features for the new second-generation Minow is the ability to connect to your TV through an HDMI cable. Notably, if you buy this on Amazon.com or other retailers, the HDMI cable will not come with your flip.
The Flip Mino HD was priced at $200, and I'm actually filming with the first generation Flip Mino HD flip cable right now. We got the cable, which is a mini HDMI to HDMI connector. This is actually the first cable I don't have one of these, so it's even if I don't use it, it's nice to have this. Let's just cut the seal here, and you can see that the old Flip Mino HD is the same nice little case, very nice.
We also got a little protector in the lens, which I wish I had my other one of them, but this is much larger than the previous generation. It still has the touch screen or the touch sensitive controls with the physical record button and unlike the current generation or the previous generation, this one doesn't have that little chrome chrome or plastic bezel around the outside. It's just rounded off which is nice at the bottom, you can see the mount for the tripod and the HDMI connector.
This is the switch for the USB connector, which is quite nice and very simple. This time, it doesn't have an extra piece of plastic holding it down; it's just one metal USB stick that's the power button. There we go, all right. The screen on this has improved significantly, and that's a big change. The other notable improvement is the portability aspect: it has two hours' worth of battery life and has twice the battery life compared to the previous generation.
Now, let's take a look at what else is in the box. I set this aside so we can have a little hand strap, some literature, and a little pouch which I don't use much. Higher quality there we go; then you Flip Mino HD.
A Quick Demo of the New Minow HD from Flip
Alright, this is gonna be a just a quick demo of the new Minow HD from flip and give you a little overview of its basic operation again. This is the USB release, very elegant and very simple.
Here are the backlit touch sensitive controls right now I'm ready to record so let's go ahead and do a demo that we're just gonna pan over and around look at my computer and record some sound so you can hear a plate back. Alright, I'm gonna hit play there you go again; let's record ourselves.
You can see the lights here we go; got two lights on the other side that turn on when you're recording so people really know when you're recording pretty enough. Pretty nifty. The old one just had one, and I'm not sure why they have to but it's got a neat effect anyway.
That's the Flip Mino HD, thank you for watching!
