It's BIG! FRUNSI 18.5 Inch 100hz Portable Monitor Review

Here is the reorganized text:

One thing I want to note about this upper display is that it's not an OLED screen. Okay, so if you're interested in understanding the difference between OLED and non-OLED screens, you can kind of see the difference in brightness between the two. And obviously, like any app, you can basically take it and move the app up to the other display so that you have your stage manager working.

And now, what I want to do is also take my Dell tablet which is a Windows PC to give you an idea of using a Windows device with this portable monitor. Again, this is my Dell tablet, and you'll definitely notice that from the top down view, the Dell tablet is not as bright and vibrant as an OLED screen. Um, I didn't want you to get the impression that this screen does not look nice, cuz it does. But compared to like an OLED screen, there's just no comparison to it.

Just a normal screen. So again, you're seeing the black bars on the side, it's because I don't have the display properties set up, and I'm going to go ahead and choose to extend the displays, and now you can see that this is using the full resolution. I'm going to keep the changes.

One of the things you can do is if you look at I have the standard display selected right here, and if I scroll down, I can go to my Advanced display settings. This is Windows 11, and if I pop this up, you'll see it actually has a 60 HZ and a 40 HZ refresh rate.

Now that's my main screen on the tablet here, but if we hop back over to screen number two, do the exact same thing, we can then pop up this menu, and you'll see that it has 59, 60, and then 100 Hertz refresh rate. So I'm going to keep that so now I have the appropriate refresh rate on this monitor.

Things will display faster, so if I want to play games on this monitor, I can, and it'll have a lot higher refresh rate. If I go ahead and move this over to the other screen here, one of the things that you'll notice is that this does have HDR support.

So if I click in here even though it doesn't say "HDR" for games and stuff, it does have HDR video streaming, and that's turned on. And that's another sort of powerful feature about this portable monitor in particular is that it does have HDR capabilities for when you're watching videos.

So basically, HDR will sort of adjust your screen based on what's showing on the screen so if it is a darker screen, it'll maybe brighten it up a little bit or if you have a really bright sun in the background, it won't wash out like the clouds and stuff that you're seeing here.

But all in all, when it comes to Portable monitors like I said there are so many. I mean, it's like it's like the new hotness right everyone has these portable monitors that they're wanting to sell you can you can buy more portable monitors for $70 bucks but it's just going to be a 13in 1080p no HDR uh regular plain old refresh rate.

And that's why I'm bringing this to show you guys, this is an awesome display that I am most definitely going to use. I might go ahead and use the uh Visa mount in the back to kind of put it up with some of my other monitors maybe I need to have 13 monitors across the wall back here who knows anyway.

Again, this is the frenzy 18.5 portable monitor. Thanks to them for sending this over for me to be able to share with you guys. I really appreciate that because I love to be able to show you guys some unique stuff. I'll leave the link down below so you can check it out and if this helped you out or you like this video give me a thumbs up, it really does help.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up everybody this is Carl from techville goodies and today we are looking at this yeah it's a little bit difficult to tell what it is from the front of the box but this is a portable monitor not any portable monitor again what I had mentioned to you in the past is that when I try to do these reviews I try to find something that's out of the norm something that's a little unique so that you can see something that that you don't see on a daily basis now the reason that this is unique actually is two reasons one is it has an 18 .5 in portable monitor typically in portable monitors you'll see something like a 13 in 14 15 this is an 18in portable monitor it is still 1080p but when it comes to playing your Xbox your PS4 switch iPad computer uh that 1080p on that size of monitor will work really well the other thing that's cool about it is that it is a 100 HZ refresh rate if you're not familiar with what the refresh rate is and why it's important it's basically your your monitor's frame rate right so if you're playing a game in 30 frames per second and you want to lock your monitor to that 30 frames per second then you would change your refresh rate to 30 HZ now with 100 HZ that means you can run up to 100 frames per second and the monitor will continue to sink with that frame rate without any screen tearing I don't know if you've seen screen tearing before but if you're playing a game and you turn quickly you'll see a lot line go down the monitor from the top to the bottom and that usually is caused with a higher frame rate and a lower refresh rate on your monitor anyway let's go ahead and open this sucker up and give it a try and just take a look at it and again I just thought this was unique because it is really aordable and being 18.5 Ines is just huge compared to I mean that's almost a standard size of a monitor I mean you a lot of times on a monitor you'll get 24 in monitor but this is 18.5 so having this is a portable moniter to put in your bag it'll still fit in your bag but it'll give you that larger screen especially if you are sight deprived like this guy having a little bit bigger screen is very nice so again in the box we have the monitor itself I will unwrap it and show you how thin it is and then show you some of the features also in the Box here they do give you all the cords that you're going to need uh one of the things with and I've talked about this so many times but I continue to repeat it is one of the things with uh these portable monitors is that they do give a USBC cable so a USBC cable with a portable monitor requires a full featured USBC Port that means that that USBC Port is capable of putting out video signal whereas like on the back of my PC I only have a USBC 3.0 Port without that full feature ability how you can tell if yours is full featured is you can you know look at the specs of the computer but you usually on the side of the USBC port on your computer it will have like a little lightning or a little symbol that shows you that it is full featured and if that's the case all you need is one cable to be able to hook up this monitor if you want to hook it up through HDMI you can also do that this is basically regular HDMI to a either mini or micro HDMI that's going to be on the side of the machine so you can come out of the HDMI like on your laptop and into the monitor itself but with that HDMI does not carry enough power to power a portable monitor if you just hook up the HDMI cable you're going to get a black screen and you're not going to see anything one of the things that they do which I think is cool is that they give you a small little USBC power brick okay so this power brick is a travel power brick the plugs do go in and out and it is USBC and what you end up doing is that you can plug this into the wall and then plug this into the portable monitor to provide that extra power that HDMI can't so again if you're using HDMI you use the included power brick and cable with it but if you're using USBC you can just use USBC and that's what I'm going to do this time around because I'm going to hook it up to my iPad so let's take a look at what you're here for and not just a bunch of cables this is the monitor itself and on the back of the monitor you have a kickstand so this kickstand does allow you to be able to set the monitor up like this or whatever sort of angle you want if you want it angled up which I'll probably do for this video so you can see it in the top camera or if you want it sort of angled a little bit further toward you you can do that have it in a little bit more vertical way you can do that it does have uh Visa mounts on the back so if you want to hook this specifically up to a monetary arm you can I think that's very nice it does look like it has speakers here which gives you that a little bit of extra ability to have sound come out if you want if you don't want to carry around extra speakers and on the side here you will see and again it's always so hard to see these little embossed text things here but so you have your micro or mini HDMI and then two USBC ports that you'll use either for the video signal or for the power so let's go ahead and give this a try so this is the new M4 iPad I will go ahead and adjust this on the screen here so you can see it as best as possible and I will plug one side of the USBC into the iPad and the other side into the back so once that's connected it's going to tell you that stage manager with an external display is set up and one thing you're going to want to do right away is come in and on the back again on the back here you do have your standard uh buttons for input and your menu system um there is also a headphone jack if you want to use that that I'm going to go ahead and turn the brightness up on this so now we're good to go we're all hooked up and you can see the size difference right so this is a 13in iPad and this is an 18.5 in portable monitor and the monitor is 16 by9 where the iPad is not when I'm showing it in a screen mirroring mode you have the black bars on the side but instead of screen mirroring you change it over to Stage manager now you have the external monitor that takes up the full entirety of the screen now one of the things to note is that this upper one is not an OLED screen okay this is an OLED screen so if you're interested in understanding the difference between OLED and not you can kind of see the difference in the brightness between the two and obviously like any app you can basically take it and move the app up to the other display so that you have your stage manager working and then if you had a mouse and a keyboard then you can use this basically as a productivity setup so now what I want to do is also take my Dell tablet which a Windows PC to give you an idea of using a Windows device with it so again this is my Dell tablet and you'll definitely notice that uh that from the top down view the Dell tablet is not as bright and vibrant as the OLED screens um I didn't want you to get the impression that this screen does not look nice cuz it does but compared to
