Greetings and Welcome Back: A Special Video from Emmy

Emmy welcomes her viewers with a warm greeting, expressing her excitement to see them and thank them for watching her channel again. She begins by mentioning that today's video is sponsored by Bokksu, a monthly subscription service that delivers premium Japanese snacks and tea pairings right to customers' doorsteps.

A Personal Introduction to Bokksu

Emmy explains that much of what she does on YouTube started with tasting things and trying new foods. She shares her personal experience of living in Japan, where people would send her treats from all over the world as a gesture of friendship and cultural exchange. This experience allowed her to explore different cultures through food, which became an integral part of her content creation.

The Significance of Bokksu

Emmy highlights the importance of Bokksu's partnerships with family-run businesses that are over 100 years old. These companies offer authentic and genuine snacks that provide a glimpse into Japan's rich culinary heritage. Each box comes with a pamphlet that explains the theme and provides a map detailing the origin of each snack, which Emmy finds particularly valuable as it helps her appreciate the regional diversity of Japanese food.

The Tanjoubi Box: A Special Edition

This month, Emmy received a Bokksu box themed around Tanjoubi, which means "birthday" in Japanese. The box includes full-size treats and multiple snacks, allowing viewers to share them with friends or family while enjoying the taste test. Among the included items are cookies, citrus jelly, takoyaki snacks, and yuzu peels.

Tasting and Exploring Japan's Snacks

Emmy shares her enthusiasm for trying new foods and drinks from around the world, particularly those that showcase Japanese culture. She highlights the unique flavor profiles of each snack, such as the yuzu's intense citrusness and the cookies' sweetness. The yuzu peel, in particular, reminds her of a kumquat, with its tangy and sweet notes.

A Special Ramen Noodle Bowl

Emmy announces that she will be making herself a bowl of ramen noodles using ingredients inspired by the Tanjoubi box. She reveals that this is unlike any other bowl of noodles she's had before, as it includes a cone of soft serve ice cream. This unique combination was first introduced to her four months ago and has sparked her curiosity.

Conclusion

Emmy thanks Bokksu for sponsoring this video and for their continued support. With a warm smile, she invites her viewers to try Bokksu for themselves by clicking the link below and using her code EMMY to receive $15 off their first order.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en(whimsical music)- Greetings, my beautifullovelies, it's Emmy. How are you? It's great to see you and welcome back.Today's video is sponsored by a Bokksu,a monthly subscription servicethat brings premium Japanesesnacks and tea pairingsright to your doorstep. So as some of you knowwho've been watching me for a long time, much of what I've beendoing here on YouTubestarted with tastingthings and trying things.Back when I lived in Japan, people sent me treatsfrom all over the worldand it was such a wonderful wayto quickly jump intoanother person's culture. You could taste their favoritetreats, favorite sweets, what grows their regionally. It's just a wonderful way to learn. And each box is seen providinga gourmet tasting journeythrough Japan. So some of Bokksu's partnersare over a hundredyears old and family runand they offer snacks thatare genuine and authentic. So this month I got this boxand this month is Tanjoubi, which means birthday. Each box will come with a pamphlet. And I really appreciate itbecause right in the beginning,it tells you the theme. And it also provides a mapdetailing where the snacks come from, which I think is really, really importantbecause in Japan, there'slots of hyper-regionalitywith snacks and tasty treatsthat you can only findin one little tiny spot in Japan. So I'm super excited becausethere's one from Ehime, and that is the area where Ilived when I lived in Japan.I love the fact thatthere are full-size treatsand multiple treats,so you can share with someoneas you're doing the taste test.Cookies.A citrus jelly. Two bags of takoyaki snacks. This is yuzu and it is a citrus. And here are the peels.Itadakimasu.Mm.So fragrant and lemony. It reminds me a little bit of a kumquat. You get a little bit of that tang, but just that really intense citrus-ness,and then it's sweet. So good.So if you'd like to tryBokksu for yourself, click the link down belowand use my code EMMY to receive$15 off your first order.Big thanks to Bokksu forsponsoring this videoand for their continued support. So today, I'm gonna be making myselfa bowl of ramen noodles. This is unlike any other bowlof noodles I've had before. It's going to contain a coneof soft serve ice cream.I first learned about this aboutfour months ago in January. And I said,\"there's no way that I'llever be able to taste it.\"It's served at a littleramen shop in Osaka. The name of the shop is called Furakenand it's a twist on Frankensteinand it has unique combinationswith your ramen noodles. And this particular onecontains a soft serve cone,- Whoa.- Floating right on the topof your bowl of miso ramen. This bowl of ramen is called amakara misoand it's miso based andamakara means sweet and spicy. So you've got a spicy brothand you've got this dairiedsweet soft serve ice cream on top.So come along with meas we make an inspirationof this Franken ramen. So the first thing that I've already done,is I've cooked my egg.So usually when you get a bowl of ramen, you can have the option ofhaving a soft boiled egg in thereor it just comes with it.So there's lots of different waysto make an onsen tamago.Onsen is natural hot springs. If you go to Japan, I highlyrecommend going to an onsen. It's one of my favoritestthings in the world, besides konbinis, it's oneof my favoritest thingsabout Japan. Now, the method I end up usingis just making a soft cooked egg.I bring water to the boil.I place an egg in there, set the timer, reduce the heat to a simmer. After seven minutes, take the egg out, plunge it into some coldwater and there you have it.That's my cooked egg.So after a carefulinspection of all the imagesthat I could find of this ramen, and I noticed that theswirl of the ice creamis very, very distinct as if the conehas been soft served intoa cone and then frozen. If you took a soft serve icecream and immediately placed iton your bowl of hot noodles,it would immediately meltand you wouldn't havethose distinctive swirls. And if you look carefully,it looks like a half a cone. They've taken the cone and cut it in half, after it's been completely frozen solidand then placed right on top of the soup.So what I've done is got acouple of soft serve cones, placed them in my freezer, and when they're rockhard, cut them in halfso I can just set it right on top.And if you think about it, it makes sense. An entire soft serve ice cream conein your bowl of noodleswould be a lot of ice cream.Alrighty.So that's prepared. Now we're gonna make our noodles.People ask me all the time,\"Emmy, what's your favorite ramen noodle?\"And what I like are theserefrigerated ramen noodles. They are pretty much instant. They come with noodles and a sauce packet, but in my opinion, the textureof these noodles are betterthan the dried. The brand that I'm usingtoday is Sun Noodle.I love their noodles and all of their kindof instant lemon packs are delicious.I happen to have the tonkotsu today.Don't have the miso. The miso one is absolutelydelicious as well. This of course is anapproximation of the one in Osaka. So water's up the boil.Add my noodles. And these don't takeany time to cook at all.Just a few minutes. And I like my noodles on the harder side.So I usually take mineout a little bit early. While that's going, I'mgoing to peel my egg.A little tap, a little rolly rolly, and then just gently peel. And plunging an egg into boiling water,I find, makes for really easy peeling.Tada! Before my noodles boilover, reduce the heat.Beautiful.They give you cooking times, but you know, just cook it to how you like it.Mm. Perfect.Turn off the heat.Drain my noodles.I usually do this in the sink.Sometimes people like to makethe broth out of this water.I generally don't because Ifind it to be too starchy. But if you want to, by all means. So depending on what'sgoing on in my kitchen, and if I'm cooking lotsof batches of noodles, sometimes I'll run somecold water over the noodlesso that they don't stickand then continue doingthis kind of shaking thing,so there's not too much water.Other people would say never do that, but you know what? You do whatever works for you.Alrighty? Okay. Some hot water that I brought to a boil.I'm gonna put in about two cups or so.Again, the instructions willtell you how much water to addbut I tend to use however much I like.Sometimes the broths are too salty for me,but I do use all of the packet.Looks almost like peanut butter. It does not taste or smellanything like peanut butter.Mm.I love doing this.If I get a bunch ofscallions or green onionsfrom the supermarket,I chop 'em up and put 'emin a container like this. And I find that I use themup a lot faster and betterwhen they're all pre-chopped.I can just add them to whatever I want.Otherwise in my refrigerator, the green onions tend tolanguish at the bottomof the crisper and theyget all slimy and gross. And this way I end up using them. Then I save the bottoms and I soak 'emin a little bit of water andthen stick 'em in my garden.Or if you don't have a garden, you can just leave thosebottoms in a glass of water.Change the water every sooften so it doesn't get gross. And then the green onionswill grow right back. It's really, really wonderful.Alrighty, let's go aheadand build the bowl.Noodles into the bowl.Broth.So I've out some chili oil,and I'm gonna add some of that to this.Oh, that's beautiful.Eggs, big pile of green onions. Now for the totally bonkers part. This soft serve ice cream coneright in the middle of it.Oh my gosh, amazing.(upbeat music)Lovelies, this is so nuts.Look at this!An ice cream cone floatingin my bowl of ramen.Alrighty.Oh yeah. The ice cream is melting.Let's give this a taste.Itadakimasu.Not bad. (laughs)Not bad.The ice cream definitely richens the brothand makes it sweeter.Although, I don't taste any vanilla. It still is definitely savory. The noodles are nice andchewy, just how I like 'em.The green onionsdefinitely make it savory. And that little bit of chili oil in theregives it a tiny bit of heat.Let's have an egg.Oh my gosh, I love the eggs.Mm.So good. The one thing I do have to say is thatthe ice cream definitely cools the broth. The broth is not as piping hot.Alrighty, so let's go aheadand give the cone a taste.Hmm.The cone is mostly soft and soggy. It's absorbed all ofthe soup from the broth.Has a little bit of crunch in it,but it also has a little bit of ice cream. So it's kind of like it'sfilled with an ice cream center. It's kind of fun, sweetand a little bit cold.Interesting and pretty tasty.Alrighty, my lovelies. Thanks so much forjoining me and big thanksto Bokksu for sponsoring this video. If you'd like to try boxyou out for yourself, click the link down below, and use my code EMMY toreceive $15 off your order. Thanks again for watching.I hope you enjoyed that one.I hope you learned something. Please share this video with your friends.Follow me on social media, like this video, subscribeand I shall see you in the next one.Toodaloo, take care.Bye!(upbeat music)Is there a burp in there?(Emmy burps)There is.(Emmy laughs)\n"
