The Love for Wonder Boy: A Childhood Nostalgia
As I reflect on my childhood gaming experiences, one franchise stands out as a beloved and iconic part of my nostalgia - the Wonder Boy series. Created by Sega, this platformer was a staple in many children's gaming collections, including mine.
I remember being amazed by the games' solid design, love, and care put into them. The games were just phenomenal, with everything about them being top-notch. I played a kind of Wonder Boy, actually, as it was my go-to game during that time. In fact, I think Wonder Boy and I are closely tied, similar to how Monster World is to Macho Man.
My first Master System console came with two games, and one of them was Wonder Boy. However, when the Genesis version of Wonder Boy: The Dragons Trap was released, I felt disappointed. It seemed like Sega was keeping the franchise alive but extending it in an unexpected direction. Instead of continuing the original Wonder Boy series, they decided to focus on Monster World.
Years later, in 2018, 2017, and 2019, a new remade version of Wonder Boy: The Dragons Trap was released. This time, however, it was not developed by Sega itself but rather through licensing and assistance from the company. I was thrilled to see this beautiful game being brought back to life.
But what really caught my attention was when I discovered that the original Wonder Boy had been remastered. I didn't even know about it until recently, and now I have to hunt down a collector's edition for over $100 or more. The not-collector's edition is still priced around the same range, with shipping added on top.
Another exciting development in the Wonder Boy franchise is Monster Boy, an extension of the series that was released just a few months ago. Sega has taken notice of this new game and has partnered with its creators to bring it to market. The beautifully drawn graphics and engaging gameplay have left me in awe.
I recently visited an EB store and found a copy of Monster Boy for $40, which is a sweet deal considering the game's age. I couldn't believe my luck when I saw Sega on the back of the package, indicating that they had partnered with the licensees to bring this game to market.
The love for Wonder Boy has been palpable in recent years, with fans expressing their enthusiasm for the franchise and its continued growth. Unfortunately, it seems like a new Wonder Boy game is not in the works, leaving fans like me eager for more.
Despite the lack of a new Wonder Boy game, the love and care put into Monster Boy and the remastered Wonder Boy have left me feeling excited about the future of this beloved franchise. I hope that Sega will continue to support the series, releasing new games and expanding its reach to new audiences.
Until then, fans like me will continue to cherish our memories of playing Wonder Boy and Monster World as children. The games were more than just a source of entertainment; they were an integral part of our childhood experiences, shaping who we are today.

still enjoy playing it to a certain point and I mean it was just great I mean every console in the end had to have this game whether it was rebadged as Adventure Island or whatever the case may be but this game became big staple in all the consoles and then we got Wonder Boy in monster land and my mind was blown they took the game to a whole new level and made it just this amazing platformer / I guess RPG style thing and I wasn't big into RPGs but Wonder Boy I sunk into and these were the games that kind of got me like these were two games that got me playing Sega these were the things that I
