temperature is great and we are here with our very own BMW M3 manual because we've got one very big update and a little update as well in this video so today I'm going to show you around it I'll talk you through our big update right now which is is we've got new Wheels as you can see and this is a LAX carbon fiber wheel they approached us asking us if wanted to develop a wheel together for our car uh a carbon fiber Barrel wheel a us-based company that's been around for over 60 years and they are one of the very few companies in the world that can actually make this and make it on a proper scale and Martin and I have been thinking about carbon wheels I think for 10 years we always wondered if it would be possible to get that going on a uh on a serious scale and we were always told that it's too expensive too difficult uh but here we are we've got a wheel on our car and it just looks insane so as you can see it's a two-piece wheel with a carbon fiber barrel and then a forged aluminium heart a centerpiece with titanium bolts on the inside here and uh this means that you have a very very lightweight wheel now if you go one piece carbon fiber Wheels it is even lighter but the difference is not that big uh but you're very limited design wise but you because you can only do you know certain Spokes and then that's it with this however we've got these super cool like floating spokes here in this sort of gunmetal gray absolutely love the design I think it fits the car really well it's like a motorport inspired wheel and uh yeah this is just awesome because our goal with this car was always to have the lightest version possible manual gearbox rear wheeel drive uh I mean we've got a titanium midpipe on it the race track pack means that we've got the carbon seats we've got carbon ceramic brakes so this is basically the lightest M3 you can get and uh to add to that a carbon wheel which only weighs 8.8 kilos at the front and 9.75 kilos at the rear which is significantly lighter than the 11 and 11.6 of the standard Wheels because that is unsprung weight and it is also rotating Mass so every kilo you can shave off your wheel is a massive difference you really you feel every kilo immediately um we also have new Michelin Pilot Sport cup 2 tires on here 275 19s at the front 2 852s at the rear so the standard sizes but the wheels are slightly wider than the stock wheels so why did we go with lax carbon fiber well as I said they've been around for a long time uh but also they do some rigorous testing impact testing thermal testing they soak them in water uh they do x-ray scans they do leak tests they also use proprietary uh resin formulations and use some kind of multi resin technology uh which makes these Wheels super super strong and also you can see how gorgeous this weave is with that clear coat on there it is just incredible I'm so so stoked with this uh we've been driving it for a few days and I can tell you the difference is there it is very very noticeable rear wheel also just gorgeous so this is a little bit wider and one size up 20 in gorgeous and then the second update is that we've got the grill back box on here and the grill down pipes as well so uh for this review uh you've got some proper sound and uh I mean just look at this color in this sunlight still so in love with it Zanzibar and I love that we get to do stuff like this just improving the car with these crazy modifications valves open proper sound for this drive um yeah so we've got 200 Grill down pipes and that Grill back boox and then an crap ofit titanium midpipe uh we're always testing different setups for exhaust uh Brands because you know we want to offer the best setups for our shop so if you're interested go check it out we have quite a few different products available in our shop we we have a biker there let's just wait for him to get out of the overpass so no horses yes horses so you can hear the you know the quintessential BMW inline 6 you know s58 has a very distinctive sound uh and we're always trying to tweak that sound to make it a little bit more bearable because I think in essence it's not a very good sounding engine but you know there are things you can tweak to make it a little bit more exciting on one hand but also if you close the valves make sure that it's still doable for daily driving and you're you're not just completely over with it after a few days driving so I think this is a very good setup that rear back box uh is actually pretty good at you know getting out that that rasp and the the real volume all right so driving with the new wheels and tires as I said these wheels go from 11 to 8.8 and from 11.6 to 9.75 and that mass that you're losing is rotating Mass So the faster your wheels spin the more weight basically develops um so if you get some weight off that the car is just going to respond much better and in addition to that it is unsprung weight so your suspension spring is always pushing down the wheel pushing it onto the ground so if you have a bump then the wheel comes up and then the spring pushes it down again basically so again if you lose a bit of weight there the car just it it it becomes more agile more responsive it gives you more feedback more feedback you can trust and this is already a car that responds really well but the turnning is just so sharp and this is enhanced by those lighter Wheels but these modifications this is what we like to do this compan has been around for 60 plus years they have also made the carbon fiber wheels for the Dodge Demon they're working on a lot of other stuff with oems and you know it's it's starting to get there the carbon wheel idea and I hope that it will trickle down and uh it will be something that you know will be more normal to to find a carbon wheel because it's just so awesome because as I said you know this is proprietary technology this is not easy to produce so we need companies like LAX to produce them to make them available at a larger scale so you know we can all enjoy them and we can buy them for our cars because it is so awesome and we're also here to do some testing basically so we're finding out how they behave and as you can see I'm putting my trust in these wheels but I'm only doing that because I've seen all the testing that these guys do with those wheels so so they testing is actually more rigorous than the EU and the US standards which is a good feeling when you're belting down the autan uh now BMW actually tried to develop a carbon fiber wheel for the M4 GTS the f82 and uh they were not able to do it so yeah it gives you an idea of how complicated this actually is and I can still remember vividly the the first time I saw a carbon fiber wheel in real life I think it was 2018 or 19 when we went to lar we saw the Ferrari 488 Pista piloti the special edition W big hit there for the wheel good testing Max um but yeah I saw that wheel and I thought oh that is so cool and the fact that we've got it on our car now is just awesome so last stretch was kind of hoping to hit 300 with the new wheels so here we go that's stop speed 318 wow wow wow wow wow I love my job oh what an amazing car I am still so freaking in love with this car it is outrageously good oh and I mean this is also why we're here doing a 318 km hour nearly 200 M hour with this wheel to you know check for vibrations and stuff like that but as you could see it was just dead straight uh yeah this is freaking amazing these Lex carbon fiber wheels are the business and uh yeah this is a dream come
