Suzuki Jimny vs Jeep Wrangler vs Bowler (Off-Road) - DRAG RACE, ROLLING RACE & BRAKE TEST

The Great Off-Road Challenge: A Tale of Two Vehicles

As we stood alongside two remarkable vehicles, it was clear that this was going to be a battle for the ages. On one side, we had a Jeep Wrangler, its 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine pumping out 270 horsepower and 400 Newton meters of torque. Next to it, a Suzuki Jimny seemed almost puny in comparison, with its natural-aspirated 4-cylinder engine producing a relatively modest 101 horsepower and 130 Newton meters of torque.

The Jeeps' owner, Alex Kirsten, was clearly thrilled to be behind the wheel of this beast, despite its rather humble beginnings. "I'm in love with this little car," she gushed. "It's so cute and fun to drive." And indeed it is - but not necessarily on pavement. The Jeep's lack of hardcore off-road tires made it an unlikely candidate for a real test of its mettle, which was soon revealed when we hit the grassy slope.

As we prepared for the big event, it became clear that this was going to be a contest like no other. On one side, we had the Suzuki Jimny, with its "cheating" ways and 550 horsepower and 700 Newton meters of torque from its supercharged V8 engine, ripped straight from a Range Rover Sport SVR. And on the other, our humble Jeep Wrangler, which seemed rather out of its depth in this particular situation.

The starting line was crossed, and the two vehicles took off like shot. The Jimny's owner was quick to point out that it had been handicapped by a soft limiter at 3,500 rpm, while Alex's Jeep was struggling to keep up with the pace of the more powerful vehicle. Despite its struggles, however, the Jeep refused to give up, and it soon became clear that this was going to be a real dogfight.

In the end, it was the Jeep Wrangler that emerged victorious, crossing the finish line a hair's breadth ahead of the Jimny. But what a run it had been - with the Jimny struggling to keep up in first gear, while Alex's Jeep seemed to be pulling away from the pack like there was no tomorrow.

But wait, there's more! The next stop on our merry chase was a rolling start, where we'd see just how quickly each vehicle could accelerate from 70 miles an hour. With the Jimny in second gear and the Jeep still stuck on all-wheel drive mode, it became clear that this was going to be a real battle of wills.

The results were nothing short of astonishing - with the Jimny managing to hold its own against the Jeep's superior performance. But it was Alex who had the last laugh, as she put her Jeep through some rather... creative celebratory maneuvers in reverse.

As we reflected on the events of the day, one thing became clear: this was no ordinary car test. It was a battle for bragging rights, with two vehicles that were almost impossible to compare head-to-head. But in the end, it was all about the fun - and who had more fun driving their vehicle off-road? Only time would tell, but for now, we can simply bask in the glory of these two remarkable machines.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi everyone Matt Watson here from Carl Wow so I've got a really unusual drag race for you so I'm sorry in a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon the hardcore off-road version of the Jeep next to me is a Suzuki Jimny and next to that off the tarmac is a bowler bulldog now there's a reason for this sensor so this Jeep it has a 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine with 270 horsepower and it has a 400 meters of torque that Bowler over there has a supercharged v8 from a Range Rover Sport SVR so it's got 5 liters 550 horsepower and 700 Newton meters of torque so it's going to be quick in this Jeep so we've handicapped it by putting it on the grass also it's on all terrain tires not hardcore off-road tires so it's gonna struggle a little bit with traction and that's why we have the little chimney here and to tell you all about the chimney let's be to its driver it's Alex Kirsten from cars roll tell us a bit about your lovely cute little car y'all right now I'm in the Gimli and I was so happy forget drag racing sports cars give me 1.5 naturally-aspirated 4 parts 101 horsepower 130 Newton meters and it costs 1.1 tonnes it looks like you're driving off-road even though it's stationed right here so funny and this is like 48 grand so pretty expensive really but that Boulder over there though it is pretty much a bespoke chassis even though it looks like a Land Rover Defender it also has a sub phrase off the very latest Range Rover front and back as well the bowler has an 8-speed automatic gearbox with all-wheel drive the Gimli though it's a manual or the cars are in four-wheel drive mode alright let's do this right launch control engaged Joker doesn't have launch control listen to that oh well that's not disgusting this has got a soft limiter at three and a half thousand rpm I'm going I'm going I may have to start a little bit Jimmy's always cheating racist I'm in the name that bowl is struggling for grip come on Jimmy I'm standing the leak can you coach the gym me I'm gonna take the chimney I think he was just stood there with his wheel spinning probably about 100 miles an hour not going anywhere then it bit into the ground and it took off took the gym knee and I'm not sure that it took me it was so so very close despite cheating no my foot slipped so then what exactly happened well the Jeep Wrangler did the study for tomorrow in 15 seconds just beating the boulder by the narrowest of margins which also did the stunning quarter-mile in 15 seconds which was pretty damn impressive considering it wasn't even on its proper off-road tires if it had been it surely would have won last was a Suzuki Jimny with a time of 16.9 seconds even though it bloomin cheated now we're into a rolling race right tactical again we're gonna do it from Samos and I in second gear I'm struggling to keep up even now this is locked in second in the automatic so is the bowler and the gym is obviously in manual oh it doesn't like changing gear quickly this thing arm just been destroyed putting something come on can I can so jiminy the cheating Jimny no come on every Bowl is just gone come on come on come on jab come on yes yes just been destroyed just been destroyed come on Jade look at that that is a decisive win over the tape I lost that now you have a break test from 70 miles an hour when we hit the line full emergency stop it's gonna be interesting to see what happens this cars running on off-road tires so they don't help but the ball is not in particularly good shape either yeah God your name here we go here we go it's like no that is literally the first thing I've seen all day hey that was good Oh cramping the only left like they're both I was concentrating on staying in a straight line to be honest but ya know that's impressive that's grass for you it's it just kept on going didn't it Jimmy did win though by about half a car length so can I just say by process of elimination the performance based on the price and how much fun you can have in it the Jimny always wins no matter what should I do some celebratory donuts if you can do celebrate to them can he do them that celebratory driving around my mum could definitely do he did those donuts in Reverse as well well I hope you guys enjoyed the video make sure you subscribe to this channel and of course go check out car throttle thanks for watching go oh I
