How can a Mini be THAT FAST ! - Mini Legend Nick Swift shows me how ! _ 4K

I'm God, how's that guys? You're always asking me for more mini content, and anyone who knows anything about minis will know the gentleman to my right, Nick Swift. To make I can't believe I'm sat in one of your cars at Goodwood and we're about to go for some hot laps. You might want to get out in a minute.

So, tell me about the car because it's okay. What we're in this morning is our 1275 GT Richard Longman replica, um, of 1978-79. Richard won the British saloon car Championship as it was then. Yeah, he won it overall as a championship winner because they split it into classes. And he obviously kept winning the class so he became the British Car Champion. So, sponsored by Patrick Motorsport and ICA fuels, etc., etc. So, a real iconic sort of mini well-known car from that period. Yeah, the real car does exist, and it's currently owned by BMW Classic, uh, and is in the car collection Museum in Munich. Yeah, um, state which they bought a couple of years back, bought it but a few noughts on the end of it. They want this one so yeah.

We're 1293, we're we're we're 1293 kilometers per hour, we're going to try and beat that top speed. We'll see how fast we can go. Okay, now we're approaching Saint Mary's. This is our first turn, and it looks like a bit of a challenge. The maximum speed limit here is 120 miles an hour, but I'm going for 125 miles an hour today.

As we approach the corner, I'm feeling the weight transfer onto the right rear of the car. It's a lot lighter on the left. But the limited slip diff is working it, pulling it into the corner. And the front wheel is almost unloaded, so I can just kiss the curb and not upset the balance of the car. This is how we make it work.

I've been around Google many times that was that was that was sensational. Yeah, when our professional friends all our Ollie Gavin and Darren Turner and then we go right through to um uh Alex Brundle blah blah blah or some absolutely made some fantastic friends from this. Karoon Chandok you know all the guys that have driven The Minis and they go rule book of how to drive a racing car. You know, run over like get that roll back together let's go and it's and it's and you drive it yeah aggressively you're driving like you're stolen. You know and it's the only way you can really pull the pull the speed out of it.

Thank you so much guys, I hope you enjoyed that. I think mini content doesn't get any better than that for me if you did make sure you give me a thumbs up. Comments below are always welcome if you haven't done so already please subscribe to Better for plenty more content to come. That's my normal sign off. I'm gonna go and have a light out now, take care guys, drive safe.

Wait that was wicked, that was a complete bucket list moment frankly Wicked thank you

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoh my God how's that guys you are always asking me for more mini content and anyone who knows anything about minis will know the gentleman to my right Nick Swift to make I can't believe I'm sat in one of your cars at Goodwood and we're about to go for some hot laps you might want to get out in a minute oh wow so tell me about the car because it's okay so what we're in this morning so this is our uh 1275 GT Richard Longman replica um of in 1978 79 Richard won the British saloon car Championship as it was then yeah he won it overall as a championship winner because they split it into classes uh and he obviously kept winning the class so he became British during car Champion so sponsored by Patrick Motorsport and ICA fuels etc etc so a real iconic sort of mini well-known car from from the period yeah the real car does exist it's currently owned by BMW classic uh and is in the car collection Museum in Munich yeah um state which they bought a couple of years back bought it but a few naughts on the end of it they want this one so yeah so we're 1293 we're about 145 horsepower um split Weber's uh very Cami you'll just notice when we fire it up below 5000 Rams it's like a bag of old Nails you know it's all Batman the big travel that we have on the split Weavers with the standard bulkhead there we're not allowed traditionally you put a Weber on a mini you cut the bulkhead out and you bring everything further forward towards the driver or further back um but we can't do that under the group one rules so we have a very very short Inlet track which makes the cam even worse yeah you know ideally we could do with that being longer um and it just makes it really peaky so on the track we'll be using traditionally you know I've got my red line set there at about sort of eight and a half special occasions it might bring out a little bit more I've got members meetings yeah members meeting when he got one of them big Camaros or something horrible or Falcon up your bum yeah so we're gonna um uh we're about the eight and a half thousand revs uh but it's the it's the lower riffs that's the problem you know so essentially We Don't Let It Drop more than six thousand it mustn't go below six thousand maybe sort of five five and three quarters yeah uh but that's about it so we have a Power Band of around the sort of two two and a half thousand yeah we're kids uh yeah uh and yeah I can do whatever you want you tell me what you want then we'll go for it just give me the full Nick Swift experience of course she raised so many times over the years to actually be sat in the car with you was quite something it's um yeah I mean obviously this is this is it it I don't get in the car very often you know this car especially we only drive this once a year at the members meeting yeah um and it is quite so every time you get in it it's sort of like this is this is quite aggressive it's obviously a mini the best handling mini so the 65 cars totally different different tires Etc but on the small 10-inch Wheels that's what they're designed for you know so suspension is a lot nicer the sort of balance of the car the turning this car in Period had 12 inch wheels but unfortunately there isn't a 12 inch tire that we can use at Goodwood so we had this dispensation to run it on 13-inch wheels and we can have a post historic period tile yeah we uh the downside to that is with the bigger wheel the car becomes more nervous and what you're sort of you'll probably sort of notice that especially sort of under braking and coming into that sort of corner entry you'll notice it's a little bit fidgety yeah you know it's it just wants it's all alive at that point you know so you have to drive it with quite a lot of care carry a lot of speed but just not to be too aggressive yeah the 65 historic cars you could just go in like a hooligan way throw it in and do whatever you want you know so cool cool right so should we give it a go yeah you're probably not going to be able to hear very much from now on but I'll just let Nick do the talking with his driving foreign foreign foreign foreign I've never had the uh privilege to sit where you are so I don't know what it feels like and it was a privilege an absolute privilege man oh no no I mean seriously it's good isn't it I mean you can see the I mean you know as I always say to people you know especially you know customers that want to buy minis enter into the world of mini racing see you don't buy a mini because you want to go fast no right like you know you want to go fast you can put one of them red things and do other things yellow things yeah but it's going to do 170 miles an hour down the street yeah you know the maximum glances we're coming into no name or this is now we have to call it um so Mary's one there's no name yeah coming into Saint Mary's one um he was pulling just about eight and a half in Top Gear that uh that's about 125 miles an hour so it's not fast you know but but the reality is we're 125 miles an hour as we are 50 meters from the corner you know the other guys are well on the brakes well before me is the way it takes the curb to some Mary's that's just that that yeah I mean through the through the chicane yeah it's close sometimes we um I was I like to sort of leave my mark where I go uh or take something away with me um and we'll finish the race and that left front has always got a red wall on it where it just takes the paint off the off the inside of the wall just on the uh just on that wheel yeah um but yeah so through some areas left you can feel so I mean obviously the car's loaded up it's put full weight transfer onto this right rear you know it's a it's a lot lighter on the left on limited slip diff is working it's pulling in you can see the the idea is you know you break change down and then as soon as you turn in power yeah because then it's pulling the limited slip diff it's pulling it into the corner yeah and the front wheel There is almost unloaded and we can just kiss the curb and it's not really upsetting the balance of the car because the front left is already sort of it's not in the air you know it's not Cortina style but it's you know we we need to keep it on the ground for drive but the limit slip diff is working but it's it it does ride that very well you know and I liked it maybe so I use it a lot more than I should but yeah it gives you a cool idea I've been around Google many times that was that was that was Sensational yeah and the guys what's funny is when our professional friends all our you know the ollie get started off with Ollie Gavin and Darren Turner and then we go right through to um uh Alex brundle blah blah blah or some absolutely made some fantastic friends from this yeah karoon chandok you know all the guys that have driven The Minis and they go rule book of how to drive a racing car you know run over like get that roll back together let's go and it's and it and you drive it yeah aggressively you're driving like you're stolen you know and it's the only way you can really pull the pull the speed out of it thank you so much guys I hope you enjoyed that I think mini content doesn't get any better than that for me if you did make sure you give me a thumbs up comments below are always welcome if you haven't done so already please subscribe to better for plenty more content to come that's my normal sign up cool I'm gonna go and have a light out now take care guys drive safe wait that was wicked that was a complete bucket list moment frankly Wicked thank
