Apps are SECRETLY RECORDING your screen! 😬

A Bug in FaceTime That Allows Someone to Spy on You Without Your Knowledge

There was an issue with Apple's FaceTime app where someone could call you, and then without your knowledge, they could start listening to you like you didn't even have to answer the call. The person who discovered this bug was a 14-year-old boy named Grant Thompson. He found that he could just add his own name to the call and then he would just start listening to him, like he didn't even have to answer the call. This meant that the person who was calling him could hear him without him having to say anything, which is a very uncomfortable situation.

The worst part about this bug was that if you were to hit the power button on your phone, it would turn on your video camera, and then the person who was calling you could see you. This means that even if you didn't answer the call, but just hit the power button, the person who was calling you could still see you. This is a very bad situation, because it means that you wouldn't know that someone was watching you.

Apple has since responded to this issue by saying that protecting user privacy is paramount in the Apple ecosystem. They also said that their App Store review guidelines work and that apps must request explicit user consent and provide a clear visual indication when recording or otherwise making a record of user activity. However, it seems like these guidelines were not strict enough, because Apple has had to take action against some developers who are violating these guidelines.

Notifying the Developers Who Violated the Guidelines

Apple has notified the developers who are in violation of these guidelines that they will take immediate action if necessary. This means that if a developer is found to be violating these guidelines, Apple will take disciplinary action against them. However, it seems like this notification should have been made before the bug was discovered, and not just as a response after it had happened.

The Discovery of the Bug

Grant Thompson, the 14-year-old boy who discovered this bug, has reportedly received compensation from Apple for his discovery. This means that Apple is taking responsibility for allowing this bug to exist in the first place, and they are compensating the person who found the issue with a gift to help fund their education.

The Impact of the Bug

This bug had a significant impact on Grant Thompson's life, because he discovered it at such a young age. It also highlights the importance of technology companies like Apple being able to protect user privacy and security. The fact that this bug was allowed to exist for so long is a disturbing reminder of the need for better oversight and accountability in the tech industry.

Apps That Can Record Your Screen Without Consent

Unfortunately, it seems like Grant Thompson's discovery is not an isolated incident. Some iPhone apps have been found to be recording users' screens without their knowledge or consent. These apps include Abercrombie & Fitch, Hollister, Expedia, hotels.com, Singapore Airlines, and Air Canada. This means that even if you are using these apps, you may not know that they are secretly recording your screen.

Protecting Yourself from These Apps

If you're concerned about these apps recording your screen without consent, there's one thing you can do: use a VPN. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a service that encrypts your internet traffic and hides your location. This means that even if an app is secretly recording your screen, the data will not be able to be traced back to you.

Hotspot Shield is a popular VPN service that offers a convenient and reliable way to protect yourself from apps like these. It has 30 patents for its unique private Terry VPN transport protocol, which optimizes multiple server connections and makes it stronger and faster over longer distances. All you have to do is open up the app, hit connect, and suddenly every website you visit, all of your data you send, and your location are completely hidden.
