Reading January: A Month of Romance and Friendship
As I sat down to reflect on my reading experience in January, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia wash over me. It was a month that brought me joy, laughter, and a few tears, all thanks to the wonderful books I devoured. If you're looking for a recommendation, or just want to hear about what caught my attention, then keep reading.
Fix Her Up is an adult romance novel by Penelope Ward, released last year, which I had the pleasure of reading. This book is a sequel to her previous release, and as promised, it's a very adult book with a wink-wink tone. If you're not into that type of romance or prefer books with more straightforward plots, then this might not be for you. However, if you're in the mood for a steamy series with complex characters, then Fix Her Up is definitely worth checking out. I enjoyed reading about Rosie and Dominic's journey to repair their marriage through counseling, as it highlighted the importance of communication and effort in keeping a relationship strong.
As someone who loves reading about marriage and the ups and downs that come with it, I appreciated this aspect of the book. The author brought up topics like love languages and relationships, making the story feel more realistic and relatable. Although I didn't quite connect with the main characters, I still enjoyed their story, and if you're a fan of romance novels, then Fix Her Up is worth considering.
On to the next review! Lucky Caller by Emma Mills is another great read that caught my attention. This is a contemporary novel, written in a style that's reminiscent of Casey McQuiston's work – fun, flirty, and full of humor. The author focuses on friendship, which I appreciate, especially for readers who prefer more subtle romance or just want to enjoy a lighthearted story.
Lucky Caller follows Nina, a young woman with two sisters, as she navigates high school and discovers her passion for radio broadcasting. With the help of her childhood best friend Jamie, Nina forms a group project that becomes an opportunity for growth and self-discovery. I enjoyed this book's 90s theme, which added to its charm and made me feel nostalgic. The friendship aspect was sweet, and while romance didn't dominate the story, it was there enough to make me smile.
My last review of January is Tweet Cute by Emma Lord. This debut novel has been making waves in the contemporary community, and I'm thrilled to share my thoughts on it. The story follows Pepper, a high school student who's balancing her swim team responsibilities with her family's restaurant business. When her school announces a new menu item inspired by their famous Grandma's Deli recipe, Pepper finds herself in a Twitter war with Jack, the owner of Grandma's.
As I read this book, I couldn't help but chuckle at the Twitter battles and Pepper's witty responses. The author skillfully wove together themes of identity, social media presence, and relationships. I adored how Pepper navigated her high school world while learning to accept herself and find her place in it. Tweet Cute is a delightful read that's perfect for anyone looking for a light, feel-good novel with a strong focus on character development.
As the month drew to a close, I reflected on my reading experience and realized that January was a great reminder of why I love books so much. From romance novels that explored complex relationships to stories about friendship and self-discovery, there were plenty of wonderful reads to enjoy. If you're looking for new authors or just want some book recommendations, then I'm here to help.
Lastly, I'd like to express my gratitude to all the readers who tune in each month. Your support means the world to me, and I'm always excited to share my thoughts on the books I've read. From Fix Her Up's steamy romance to Tweet Cute's delightful debut, January was a great reading experience that left me feeling uplifted and inspired. As we move into February, I look forward to seeing what new books will capture our hearts and imaginations.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone the first wrap-up of 2020 here it is Sean my wrap-ups I share with you every single book I've read that month and I also show them to you in order of my least favorite up to my favorite book that I read this month so this month I read six books which is okay if you don't know I was in a really really really big slump at the end of 2019 like I read four books in December which is a really low for me and so I knew the beginning of this year would be a little bit better but I'm taking it slowly at a time six books is not a ton but in retrospect it really is honestly so I'm okay with it I'm happy with it so in these six books I've already done a short reviews on all six of them so I'll leave them down below so I won't go into super detail about them because like I said I do have her views on them which if you're interested in hearing more about any book I talked about I'll link the review down below so I don't want this to be forever long video so let's get into the books I read this month starting from my least favorite working up to my favorite so 2020 starting off with some thrillers for me and not only that it started off with some problems some my least favorite through us remember so coming in at 2 is hidden bodies by Carolyn Katniss is the sequel to you which I read last year and I loved if you're familiar he was a show I've reviewed the first season I just reviewed the second season as well so if you want to hear my opinions on that I'll link that down below as well um I waited until the second season of you to read hidden bodies because I just heard horrible things about it and I read it and it was really hard to read it cuz I just didn't like it if you want to hear my thoughts on it go for it but again like I said I love you the first season and the first book some of my favorites I'm season of you is definitely better than hidden bodies but I didn't love it hidden bodies was just I don't have any words so there's that two out of five didn't really love it another two out of five similar book that I read this month is the wise by Tim Fisher I had such high hopes for this book because the plot sounded so intriguing to me basically Falls woman who is married to this guy who's awesome married and two other woman they're polygamists she doesn't know anything about these two otherwise she doesn't know their names where they live or anything like that she just knows that she sees her husband once a week and that she shares her husband with two other woman and then one day when she's doing the laundry she finds a slip of paper with a woman's name on it you can guess it's probably one of the wives so she decides hey let's do some investigating and figuring out who these other wives are and it says how far would you go to find out the truth about your husband so the first half this book was really strong I really love the whole polygamous aspect of it because I don't read a ton of books like that because I don't understand a thing that's a whole other thing but the last half of it was just this one I will tell you it's not spoiling at least I mean I don't know if it's fuller or not it does use mental illness as a plot device and I really don't like that thrillers do that a ton honestly and that's a whole other video honestly of talking about is that a good thing to do or not ultimately probably not but this one really irritated me there's some thrillers I read where they used mental illness as a plot device that I think is a little bit more fleshed out makes more sense this one just made me show Aaron tater that they use that and the way they did it was just horrible what they did oh I just did not love it so two out of five one of my least favorite books of the year probably and we're gonna starting off the year of saying that so I don't know what that means but I I didn't like it that's thriller I gave a three out of five and that is the silent patient by Alex Michael it's know this one again I feel like does he's mental illness as a plot device but I feel like it does it a little bit better if that's he would just say anything then the wise this one is was this book was a big buzz book last year everybody loved store their books read this book I finally read it this one is all about a girl named Alicia who has a perfect life she's a painter she's married to this famous fashion photographer and things are going great and then she shoots her husband in the face seven times and kills him and basically pick up years later where she is in a mental institution because she has not talked since that night and it's been like seven years and we have this therapist named Theo that is really enamored by Alicia's case he gets the job where she lives that just so he can try to work with her and figure out why she did what she did and so that's what this whole book is about the silent patient the twist at the end I think was good I think you could have seen it coming but again I feel like it does these mental illness as kind of a plot device but I just didn't love it as much as everyone else did like it was a solid thriller but it's not one of my favorite again I feel like I'm Way too harsh on thrillers when it shouldn't be because I haven't read nearly enough of them so take this with a grain of salt as well my book reviews honestly opinion personal preference is everything but anyway three out of five I enjoyed it I didn't hate it and loved it time in the middle form and then I also have two more 305's because you know and three out of five I just want to say are not bad ratings three out of five star kind of middle-of-the-road books which means I enjoyed them I liked them there wasn't anything horribly horrible about it in my opinion or anything really amazing about it it was just kind of a middle-of-the-road book which I think is perfectly fine that's just my opinion I have loved her or lose her right Tessa Bailey this is an adult romance it is he sequel to fix her up by her that she released last year that I read this is a very adult book if you get them saying wink wink so if you're not into that straight far away from really any types of books this one follows the characters Rosie and Dominic who were an American it's very strained and Rosie like wants to leave the marriage and they decide ultimately to go to marriage counseling and really work on their marriage and I did really enjoy that aspect of a marriage because a lot of times the romance books we see people come and go that's not married and things like that speaking of someone's been married for over eleven years I know I like reading books about marriage and you know kind of the ups and downs in them because every marriage has ups and downs and talks about a love language is the marriages and things like that so I gave it a 3 out of 5 I can't fix her up with ratified it's just a romantic very steamy series so if you're into that definitely check out this series the last three out of five I have is lucky caller but Emma Mills she is a wide contemporary author I've read all of her books they're all really good feel good books I always kind of compare her to Casey West because they're just kind of writing styles very similar very just cute and fluffy oars Casey laughs I feel really focuses on the romance fluff and mm Elle's really focuses on a friendship route so in case you don't want so much romance but we strong friendship group I would recommend any among those books because she writes them very well this one follows a character named Nina who has two sisters her mom's getting remarried and she's also going into this radio broadcasting class where they each have to pair up like four or five people and like make a radio show so she does that and they have like a 90s theme one which I love because 90s is everything I less than a 90 still everyday and she also is in this group with her childhood best friend Jamie who feelings have happened earlier but things are kind of resurfacing again so three out of five it was cute it was adorable I'll probably read all that in the books because they just put a smile on my face honestly and the last book I want to talk about it's my favorite book of the month and I gave it a 5/5 and that is tweet cute by Emma Lord this is aya contemporary debut novel I loved it we follow character named pepper who is going to this elite private school she's the captain of her swim team she has a lot of responsibilities going to college that uh and her family also owns this big like restaurant called big Lee burger they're franchising and her mom relies on her a lot to run the company's Twitter page because she just as good at it and she has a lot on her plate then we have a character named Jack who also goes to pepper school and his family has like this deli in New York that's very small like grandma's I forget exactly name of it and basically what happens is big Lee burger announces like their new menu item like the grandma's grilled cheese and Jack notices that it is the exact recipe of their famous grilled cheese so a battle ensues pepper and Jack both take ahold of their families on Twitter and they kind of wore the kind of way to war against each other meanwhile at school they're actually becoming friends and also we have this um app that they're at at school that's kind of like a private messaging thing where each students assigned to another student but they don't know the identity of each other and it's pepper and Jack talking to each other and feeling submerged it was just adorable I love the Twitter aspect of it I loved pepper and Jack peppers and cheese and overall if you just want really cute and adorable why could temporary that has some really good writing and the Twitter aspect to check out tweak you it was adorable I would never this is a debut novel it's getting a lot of hype right now I understand that but I still love for my contemporaries I ate this one up and loved it adore it so would highly recommend you check this one out there you have it those are the six books I read in January overall a pretty good reading
