iPhone 5 vs. Luxury Watch

**iPhone 5 versus Luxury Watch Test: A Comparison**

In recent days, there has been a lot of buzz about how the new iPhone 5 is being compared to fine jewelry and even Swiss mechanical watches in terms of its design, attention to detail, and quality manufacturing. As someone who owns watch reviews.com, I was asked by Renee Richie to do this special report. And so, here's my take on the iPhone 5 versus luxury watch test.

**The iPhone 5**

Let's start with the iPhone 5 itself. Take a look at its machined edge - it's beving all the way around the front of the face, which is a nice design touch. You can also see the quality in the attention to detail. One feature that sets the iPhone apart from other devices is the use of sapphire glass to cover the lens. Sapphire is really tough, just like what watches use in their design.

**A Mechanical Watch Comparison**

Now, let's take a look at the watch I'm wearing - it's my Panerai. This baby is quite large and heavy, with a footprint that's noticeably different from the iPhone 5. The strap on the Panerai is also longer than the phone, which adds to its bulk. At the back of the watch, you can see a clear glass case that showcases the watch's inner workings.

**Detailed Features of Mechanical Watches**

Take a closer look at the watch - there are many fine details that make it stand out from other watches. The battery life on this mechanical watch is quite impressive - I can wear it for days without needing to recharge. And even if I take it off, it has a 72-hour power reserve. This means that it can keep ticking away for several days without any need for maintenance.

**Comparing Features**

Now, let's compare the features of the iPhone 5 with those of the mechanical watch. When it comes to functionality, the phone wins in some areas - for example, sending texts is a breeze on this device. However, when it comes to durability, the watch has its advantages. The iPhone 5 can't withstand being submerged underwater, but the watch can handle depths of up to 300 meters.

**Telling Time**

Another area where the phone falls short is in accuracy - mechanical watches are generally more accurate than smartphones when it comes to telling time. However, the iPhone 5's lack of an always-on display does make it less convenient for some users. On the other hand, the watch has a simple but elegant design that makes it easy to tell the date and month.

**Bell & Ross BR 1 - A More Comparable Watch**

So, let's compare the iPhone 5 with another luxury watch - the Bell & Ross BR 1. This watch is actually quite similar in design to the iPhone 5, which makes it a good comparison point. However, the BR 1 is significantly heavier than the phone and has a more aggressive look that sets it apart from other watches.

**Omega Planet Ocean vs Apple iPhone 5**

Finally, let's compare the iPhone 5 with another luxury watch - the Omega Planet Ocean. This watch has a sleek and modern design that makes it stand out in a crowded market. However, its size and weight are noticeably different from those of the iPhone 5, which adds to its bulk.

**Conclusion**

In conclusion, while the iPhone 5 is an excellent device with many great features, it simply can't compete with luxury watches when it comes to design, attention to detail, and quality manufacturing. Luxury watches like the Panerai, Bell & Ross BR 1, and Omega Planet Ocean have a certain something that sets them apart from other devices - a level of craftsmanship and elegance that is hard to replicate in consumer electronics.

As I take off my watch for this review, I'm left with the thought that maybe there's some truth to the idea that luxury watches are like fine jewelry. They're both made with high-quality materials and attention to detail, but they serve very different purposes. So, if you want a device that's more practical and convenient, the iPhone 5 may be the way to go. But if you're looking for something with a certain level of sophistication and elegance, then luxury watches are certainly worth considering.

**Final Thoughts**

So there you have it - my take on the iPhone 5 versus luxury watch test. It's clear that these two devices are worlds apart when it comes to design, functionality, and overall quality. While the iPhone 5 is an excellent device in its own right, it simply can't compete with the level of craftsmanship and attention to detail that goes into making a luxury watch.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhey everybody Kevin here doing some special reporting for imore at the request with Renee Richie who said to me Kevin you know you're no Ariel Adams you're no John bigs but I know you got some watches and I know you own watch reviews.com so you're the best guy on the mobile Nations team to do this and uh basically he said look a lot of people are saying this new iPhone 5 is being compared to Fine Jewelry or even Swiss mechanical watches in terms of their design the attention to detail the quality manufacturing that's gone into it um so we're going to do the iPhone 5 versus luxury watch test right now and I'm going to take you through it so here's the iPhone 5 you can see some of these details right you got this nice machined edge here that's beving all the way around the the front of the face really nice design touch you can see the quality look and you know also from mechanical watches you have the use of sapphire glass here to cover the lens uh Sapphire is really tough that's what watches use in their design so let's see how it Stacks up I mean there's no doubt the iPhone 5 looks nice but we need to go head tohe head so we'll start with the watch I'm wearing this is my Panter eye take this baby off you know we can take a look here you know footprint with the strap you know the watch is a little bit longer iPhone 5 is a little bit thinner you can see at the back we got a clear seethrough case a showcase no but seriously uh kind of interesting right obviously a lot of uh fine detail on a mechanical watch and it's funny to to think about some of the things here like um battery life well you know this maybe a day day and a little bit this mechanical watch if I don't take it off my wrist I can wear it basically forever uh and even if I take it off this guy's got about a 72h hour power Reserve you know this has a lot of megahertz you know or gigahertz megahertz this has a lot of jewels to it uh if you know what a jewel is uh what else do we have you know sending texts iPhone 5 wins um waterproof the watch winds you know this guy will go underwater 300 M iPhone 5 you drop it in a toilet you're pretty much screwed so there's your first look you know telling the time obviously you know this one hasn't always on face but this one you got to hit a button uh but still not bad accuracy this is probably going to win but you know mechanical watches are just way cooler this will tell you the the date to the month as long as you adjust it each month so you know that's that although I would say maybe this panai is a little more better compared to an iPhone 4S just in terms of the design influence here you got the black and silver going on so let's go for a more blacked out watch and I've got here a nice Bell and& Ross it's my br1 what is it 97 Limited Edition I call my crackberry watch number 239 at 250 so Bell and& Ross really popular and sharing's the similar look here so it's maybe a better comparison right nice design details this watch is believe it or not quite a bit heavier than this iPhone this thing is a tank you know in the watch industry you go through phases some people like a thin watch something like big I mean this is a big honking watch uh legibility from a distance I think the Bell Ross is going to win very cool though and you know something else we compare to quick maybe a nice uh Planet ocean here from Omega and uh take a look at that baby you know I got a Rox Daytona I could compare it to also silver stain silver stainless steel silver uh or white face although I'm going to put that one up for sale if anybody wants it you know I've only worn it like twice I just don't like the Rolex that much so shoot me an email but back to the question at hand you know iPhone 5 doesn't stand up to luxury items I mean yes and no right it's kind of like it it's definitely a well well-made very tight designed device it's got some excellent engineering and Manufacturing behind it which absolutely is probably the same types of tools and machines that are being used these days on these high-end watches so no doubt those comparisons could be made but um you know you can't really compare a mechanical watch to a phone it just seems really wrong so this video on that note is over but if you want to make the comparison we'll let you do it so I'm going to put my watch on hit the stop button here and uh as soon as I'm done that we'll say the F famous words Kevin outhey everybody Kevin here doing some special reporting for imore at the request with Renee Richie who said to me
