Rode Procaster Mic Unboxing & Test

**The Amazing Quietness of Adam's New Mic**

As I sat down to test my new microphone, I was blown away by its lack of background noise. "This is amazing," I thought to myself, "I have no background noise whatsoever." This is a game-changer for me, especially when it comes to recording voiceovers and live shows. My current setup has been a bit of a mixed bag, with some mics producing great results while others were noisy or lacked certain frequencies.

**Adjusting the Levels**

To test my new mic's capabilities, I set its levels to maximum in properties. "All right, let's stop recording," I said, "let's go back to our regular audio hardware so we can play it back real quick and see how it sounds." As soon as I stopped talking, the level of noise dropped dramatically. "That's nothing," I thought, "I've never heard anything like it."

**Bass Response**

But what really caught my attention was the bass response on this mic. When I played a bass-heavy song, the levels were still relatively low. "Holy crap that is amazing," I exclaimed. The lack of bass was surprising, but in a good way. It's not always easy to get a mic to capture the full range of human speech and sound without introducing too much background noise.

**Compressing the Signal**

I decided to test my compression settings on this mic, which has 16 inputs and can be used for voiceover work. I set the gain down and turned the levels up, and was pleased with the results. However, when I cranked up the bass, the signal started to clip out. "Oh no," I thought, "I've got a problem on my hands."

**Using the Other Mic**

In an emergency, I have a backup mic that can be used for voiceover work. It has a different frequency response than my current mic and is better suited for capturing deep voices. I decided to try it out and was pleasantly surprised with the results.

**Comparing Mics**

To compare my new mic with its competitors, I set up both mics in my studio and played back some voiceover recordings. The difference was striking - my new mic captured the sound much more accurately than my old one, especially when it came to low frequencies.

**The Bass Problem**

But there is a problem with this mic's bass response - or lack thereof. When I play bass-heavy songs, the levels are still relatively low. This means that if I want to record voiceovers with a lot of bass, I'll need to find another solution.

**Fixing the Audio Issues**

After some experimentation, I found that by applying compression and EQ to my new mic's signal, I could get it to sound more like my old mic. However, this also introduced some other issues - such as delay and clipping. "I'm not sure if I've done the right thing here," I admitted.

**A New Solution**

As I continue to experiment with my new mic, I'm starting to see a solution emerge. By using compression and EQ to tailor the sound of my voiceover recordings, I can get them to sound great without sacrificing too much bass. It's a trade-off, but one that I'm willing to make.

**The Quake Sweeper**

As I continued to test my mic, I discovered something strange - it sounded like my old radio sweeper from the Quake game series. "I think I might have done the wrong thing," I said, laughing at my mistake.

**Conclusion**

Overall, my new mic has been a revelation. Its lack of background noise and surprising bass response have opened up new possibilities for me as a voiceover artist. While there are still some challenges to overcome - such as getting it to capture low frequencies convincingly - I'm excited to see where this mic takes me.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enrode Pro caster dynamic microphone broadcast quality hopefully cuts down on background noise ideally a lot somewhat better quality will do better for my voice especially on live things than my current microphone and either this one will go to choose side or I'll just keep it for now until we need it later um it is an XLR microphone so it doesn't need an audio interface or mixer board like I use shock mount to keep it from making noise and moving around when I do like this I have one on this microphone however it's not likely going to fit on the road and there's one specifically for it although this is technically for the podcaster but they're the exact same mic the podcaster is just the USB version so let's go ahead and open it up here this is my live stream unboxing in the box we have a bag which includes a normal just base mount for it and the screw adapter depending on your mic stand or pull boom you'd have to put it in there and attach it I will not be using this since I'm using these shock mounts I will just slide it in here my puppy is scratching at the door but she's not getting in not until I'm done here you get Pro Caster instruction manual 10-year warranty oh and this is a new sticker and I love rode microphone sticker which I will happily place on my computer or something then we get a little baggy with this little blue thing I don't I'm not sure what it is um it's like a washer almost hang on let me open it up here interesting it like helps the XLR cable stay in there I'm not sure if I need to use this or not we'll keep it out just in case I don't I don't know I've never had one of those before and we have a nice little leather baggie here which is also what my at2020 came in with the microphone itself and again this is a huge freaking microphone and some do not eat in that bag there and for comparison this is obviously my main microphone if I were to put it in the same position it's almost double the size like the actual microphone bit sticks out over top of my original so that will be quite the interesting setup and it's heavy too like I'm can I'm actually now concerned that my arms aren't going to be tight enough to hold it up but we'll see hello everybody my name is Eva's Vox XLR on the bottom screw Mount here which I will need to take off and we may go on and get it fired up and test it in the Stream here I'm not sure this is taking forever there we go all right set the mic down let's get the shock mount open up here now this did have a baggie on it but I already opened it up to look at it and so I took the baggie off but that's all that was in the box was the shock mount itself oh and that comes with a the little adapter pre-installed like part of it but it looks like the wider threads may be enough to hold it in here and then it'll likely be hung from the top here so you slide it in and then you screw it into the bottom here which is hard to handle on camera just screw the base of the shock mount onto the XLR plug of the microphone if I can freaking manage here here so the microphone down at least I think that's what I'm supposed to be doing no it's not no it's not how does it connect or is this really not for it even though Amazon said they went together hang on this is weird can I just screw this off entirely no it replaces this thing I'm doing it right I wonder what the hell's going on here set it down and tighten it's not wanting to screw it's a little sideways there we go and boom and again this is really heavy like I really hope my arm can hold it up and I guess I'm gonna plug it in let's try it gonna mute my mic real quick so that I don't explode your ears when I plug and unplug test test okay I have no clue what this sounds like at the moment but I'm a bit more confident in my mic I'm holding the microphone because when I let the original one go it flew up and actually hit my TV screen I don't think it did any damage um but clearly it was already made to support a bunch of weight I have Dynamic mics work differently so this will take some getting used to and it looks like it's a lot quieter so I'm gonna have to play around with that but I could mean a good thing if it cuts out the background noise so let's do a message me on Skype real quick all right let's take off the pop filter We're not gonna need that for the most part how do I can y'all hear me like at all do I have any sound I would hope so but oh bloody nope all right it looks much neater without the hot Builder hello that's a lot more in my face so I want it like kind of down I think that would be perfect I can get everything to hold in place hello hello wow it's really quiet Titan I don't want to break it all right and then Titan actually loosen Titan and then tighten it up here still heavy all right let me move this out of the way no one's responding garbage out of the way but webcam back up you can sort of hear me all right that's what I need to know actually let's do it's so big I don't know ah perfect if I hang it right there that would be directly pointed at my mouth just gotta get it really tightened so it doesn't weigh it down oh my God it's still so heavy look it just hangs right back down although still pointing at my mouth technically there we go no hello hello hello hello my name is Vox how about now can you hear me now looks like it sounds pretty loud now hello hello hello my name is and you are listening to hey boss test one two three this is really awkward without knowing how I actually sound kind of frustrating but I don't have any easily accessible headphones to plug into my mixer board to hear how I sound hello hello Good morning Vietnam Captain pants all right cool all right thanks for watching guys for the unboxing I will be back in approximately five minutes I have to go let my puppy back in the house and we'll probably join them up it looks like they're playing Minecraft so we're gonna join them in the Minecraft yeah yeah literally as soon as I stop talking it just plummets there's literally no ground level noise I'm squeaking much air and it's not picking up holy crap that is amazing the noise filtering on this is perfect perfect holy Shake all right so I turned the gain up a little bit that did not honestly make it much louder but it did good for me here what if I pull up Skype ever so slightly picks him up okay now I actually just turned the gain down a little bit and I just turned my levels up it's still going to be quiet when I'm live unfortunately but it's going to have no background noise well I just like Kiss the mic it's gonna have no background noise whatsoever this is amazing let me make sure this is set all the way up line in properties listen levels 100 yep all the way up that's all right hello everybody my name is Adam where he builds a box and you're listening to the atom show yay hey let's stop recording let's go back to our regular audio Hardware so we can play it back real quick and see how it sounds yeah I know thank you and let's just throw my processing on there see what it does I'm super excited look at that that's nothing nothing no one's ever gonna hear what that has literally as soon as I stop talking literally as soon as I stop talking it just plummets there's literally no ground level noise there's not as much bass like hmm I'm squeaking my chair and it's not picking up holy crap that is amazing that will take it in some use too there's not as much of the raspiness because it's not a condenser microphone I wonder how I feel about that okay now I actually just turned the gain down a little bit and I just turned my levels up it's still gonna be quiet when I'm live unfortunately but it's going to have no background noise wow just like Kiss the mic he's gonna have no background hello everybody my name is Adam where he builds a box and you're listening to the Adam show yay all right this is awesome all right what happens if I really try to crank up the bass oh I gotta fix the audio devices let me see what happens if I just try to do my normal or my like super Bassy recording if I can't if I can't do it with this mic I may have to set the other one up on a third input it has like 16 inputs and use that microphone specifically for when I need to do voice over stuff but let's try it let me get I don't have a drink yeah this isn't going to turn out well fatality monster kill triple kill jovakin ebo's box the captain pants sir metal King wet mods this is a test all right let's see how that sounds compared to normal oh my god that hurt okay hello not playing back hang on it's annoying that I keep having to switch it but that's what happens when you use a USB interface fatality monster kill triple kill jovakin epo's box the captain pants sir metal King all right there's definitely not as much bass there let me let me do this and see if it sounds at all like it and if not I'm definitely hooking up the other one for voiceover just set it here or something that was quick but I can apply a lot more compression on it through my mixer now and in theory like this I can hello hello hello hello hello hello hello hello okay in theory like this I can set it up to where I don't even need my effects at all I really should not have done that all right fatality monster kill it's not that far off triple kill all right let me try it with the new compression real quick and then I promise I'll quit digging around I'm just kind of excited but when I do like quick voiceovers I still need as much bass as possible although choose Mike will probably do that or if I replace choose Mike with this mic and then all I'd have to do is sit over a seat or something that wouldn't be too bad but now I got I have a lot more compression on here the captain pants Eva's Vox ew it's you multi-kill holy totally clipped out there which isn't necessarily a bad thing for when I'm doing this for regular recordings obviously it's a bad thing but regular recordings I'm not going to be talking this loud and holy crap my throat I need to stop now of course can't play back Gracie what are you doing crazy I have a lot more compression on here actually that sounds better the captain pants and then actually kill holy it sounds a lot more realistic which is bad because it's not what I enjoy all right let's do yeah let's do that I have a lot more well that's not gonna sound like anything the captain pants that's not the quick voice set priest Eddie there is it nope that's part of it my bad quick voice there we go I bet that sounds a lot better let's do it here let me crank this up 100 I apologize to your ears on here there's a lot more delay than there should be sounds a lot more like my radio sweeper than the Quake sweeper that's odd did I do the right one yeah it says it is okay let's do the radius Weaver real quick hello I have a lot more compression on here yeah all right ah wow that that that that tore my throat up and I've only got like 25 more hours left thanks guys all right what are they streamingrode Pro caster dynamic microphone broadcast quality hopefully cuts down on background noise
