Volvo's Tesla Model 3 revealed - the stunning Polestar 2 EV

The All-New Polestar 2: Top 10 Things You Need to Know

This is the all-new Polestar 2, the second car from Volvo's electric performance car brand. The car features a unique blend of design elements that pay homage to its Volvo roots, while also showcasing its own distinct personality. The grille, LED lights across the whole width of the rear, and trademark frameless door mirrors are just a few of the distinctive features that set the Polestar 2 apart from other electric cars on the market.

So, which electric car gives you the mightiest spark? There's no need to look any further than the Polestar 2. The question is, which one looks the best? Well, that's for you to decide, but if you're wondering, we've got a pop-up banner in the top right-hand corner of the screen where you can share your thoughts and find out what others think.

The Polestar 2 is a pure electric car with a 28 kilowatt per hour battery pack paired with electric motors and all-wheel drive. With 480 horsepower under the hood, it's going to be quick, but we recommend driving it sensibly to get the most out of its impressive performance capabilities. And that's exactly what composite are reckoning – you can get an astonishing 310 miles out of a full charge, remarkably identical to the range of the Tesla Model 3.

Now, we know that charging times can be a bit of a mystery, but Polestar is promising owners easy and hassle-free access to the world's largest public charging networks. And for those who are wondering, the launch edition will cost around €60,000 (approximately £50,000) when it goes on sale sometime in 2020. However, we're told that the entry-level car will be available a year later at a slightly more affordable price of around €35,000.

But don't worry if you're not sure about all the technical details – Polestar is also promising to provide owners with final performance figures for the car when they become available. In the meantime, we're told that the car will accelerate from 0-60mph in less than 5 seconds, which is impressive considering it's somewhere between the fastest and slowest versions of Tesla's Model 3.

One of the best things about buying a car today is that you don't have to walk into an old-fashioned car dealership to get behind the wheel. Polestar has partnered with trendy city centre stores called "Pulsed" where you can actually see and test drive the car before you buy it. And, if you're thinking of buying online, there's no need to worry about buying a car outright – Polestar is offering a monthly subscription scheme that includes car insurance, maintenance, and roadside assistance. Sounds hassle-free?

But how do we know this is the best car on the market? Well, what you're looking at right now are supposedly the world's most advanced headlights. The Polestar 2's headlamp beam can spot up to five cars in oncoming traffic and cut out the light beams shining on those particular vehicles, which means you can have full beam headlights on constantly without dazzling other drivers.

And speaking of technology, the Polestar 2 has an 11-inch infotainment screen that runs entirely on Google's Android operating system. This means owners will have access to all sorts of features like Google Assistant, Google Play Store, and Google Maps – although it's worth noting that Apple CarPlay is not currently available.

But one of the most impressive things about the Polestar 2 has got to be its interior design. According to Paul Starr, the car is completely vegan, which means you won't find any dead animal skin inside. The standard interior features gold seatbelts, gold brake calipers, and gold valve cups – it's all a bit ostentatious, but we're told that's exactly what the designer intended.

And finally, if you've got a smartphone, you'll love the Polestar 2's latest innovation: Polestar Connect. Your mobile doubles as the car key when you approach the car and unlocks itself just before you reach for the door handles. There's no start button in sight – instead, there's a sensor built into the seat underneath your bum that lets you start the car with a simple gesture. It's all a bit futuristic, but we're told it's going to be a game-changer when it comes to integrating your car with your phone.
