The Full Product Brief for Intel's Z390 Chipset Has Been Released
I've been wondering about this for years, but I just realized this is a big deal! Intel has suddenly released the full product brief for their upcoming Z390 chipset. So far, Z390 seems to have pretty much identical specs to Z370 with the main differences being the addition of six USB 3.1 Gen 2 lanes and integrated AC Wi-Fi. This means that Z390 will also work with Intel's mainstream Coffee Lake processors, serving as a higher-end motherboard option.
Intel was expected to release this information at Computex in a few weeks, but it looks like somebody at Intel may have gotten a little excited and prematurely released it. If Linus was here, he would probably make an inappropriate joke about the situation, but I'm better than that. One of Apple's revolutionary transformational designs is coming back to bite them. The company is being hit with a class-action lawsuit over the butterfly keyboards used in their latest MacBook and MacBook Pro laptops.
Apparently, if even a tiny amount of dust or debris accumulates under the keycap, keystrokes will fail to register, which means thousands of MacBook users can't finish writing up their keto veggie smoothie recipes to sell on Instagram. Users who took their machines into Apple stores for repairs were told it would cost $700 and if they couldn't pay that, maybe they didn't belong in the call to begin with. Which is fair, I suppose.
Encryption has also become a major issue lately. Researchers from the Electronic Frontier Foundation and the University of Munster have released information about sizable flaws in popular methods of encryption known as "e-fail." They advised users to disable the PGP and S/MIME protocols in their email clients, which affects apps like Outlook, Thunderbird, and Mac OS Mail. If you don't use encryption, then you're just as vulnerable as you've always been. Might as well live life to the fullest and open some of those spam links – who knows, they might work.
Today's Quick Bits are brought to you by this shirt again, which is starting to get smelly to be honest with you. I should probably join the 1,000 of you that have bought it already and just buy one. Are you guys kidding me right now? I love the idea of a thousand people walking around wearing this – although if you want the smell, you'll have to add that yourself. The shirt is still available, but it'll only be around for two weeks, so get it now at the link in the description. It'll be gone after that, had enough of this nonsense.
Alright, let's move on to some exciting news! HP has unveiled a bunch of new PCs at an event in New York today, including 11 NV laptops and a 34-inch ultrawide all-in-one with built-in wireless charging and Amazon's Alexa. You can start fights between her and Cortana without buying extra smart speakers – it's very convenient. AMD has also announced a new lineup of Ryzen Pro processors with Radeon Vega graphics, along with some PCs from Lenovo, HP, and Dell featuring the new chips. But these are only for pros – are you pro or are you anti? Let me know in the comments.
The OnePlus 6 was leaked over the weekend revealing that it has a Snapdragon 845 CPU, six gigs of RAM, and a 3300 milliamp hour battery. Although, if none of that is accurate, Linus Tech Tips will have the legit info because they'll be at the launch event – so I'm hedging my bets there. Bethesda released a bewildering trailer for Rage 2 featuring a bunch of edgy Mad Max-looking peeps who really want you to know they are crazy. The first one was average right? The first Rage game I didn't play, which is possibly good news. And NASA will be sending its next rover to Mars with a little helicopter friend – the Mars helicopter has to be a bit different to travel through the Martian atmosphere, but if it works, it'll be able to scan terrain like a billion times faster than a boring old wheeled rover. Not the actual number, but it sounds cooler.
That's it for TechLinked Number Four Guys – that's how you do four, thanks for watching! If you like fast and silly tech news, subscribe, ring the bell, buy the shirt, do a handstand, bop it, twist it, see you later.
