The Xbox One Connect: A Hands-On Review of its Features and Gestures

As we begin our exploration of the Xbox One Connect, it's clear that this device is designed to make your living room experience even more convenient. My girlfriend and I are eager to show you guys some of the features and gestures that this device has to offer.

Turning on the TV using voice commands

We start by attempting to turn on the TV using just voice commands. With a simple "Xbox on," the device springs into action, recognizing our command with ease. We're impressed by how seamlessly it integrates with our existing TV setup. The Xbox One Connect's ability to control our TV is truly impressive, and we can't wait to explore more of its features.

Using voice commands for everyday tasks

We begin by recording a segment on the TV section, as the Elgato Game Capture cannot capture the television side of things. We start with "Xbox watch TV" and are pleased to see that it still has our settings saved from last time. We then attempt to unsnap the window, and it works beautifully. Next, we try "Xbox watch Cartoon Network," and again, the device responds promptly. However, when we try to mute the volume, we're met with some difficulties. The Xbox One Connect requires us to yell over its own volume in order to be heard.

Navigating TV channels and adjusting settings

We continue by trying out various voice commands for navigating our TV channels and adjusting settings. We find that "Xbox watch Disney Channel" is a bit tricky, as it seems to struggle with channel names. However, we discover that Cartoon Network works well, likely due to its name being more distinctive. It's worth noting that if the sound on your TV is too loud, you may need to use a different command to adjust the volume.

Using voice commands for games

We move on to trying out some of the Xbox One Connect's gaming features. We start by attempting to access "Killer Instinct," but unfortunately, we find that it doesn't work as expected. However, when we try again, using the same command, it suddenly springs into action. This demonstrates the device's responsiveness and ability to adapt to our commands.

Using voice commands for web browsing

We then attempt to use the Xbox One Connect for web browsing by trying "Xbox go to Facebook.com." To our surprise, it works seamlessly, allowing us to navigate through the website with ease. We're impressed by how responsive the device is when it comes to executing our commands.

Some of the features didn't work as expected

While the Xbox One Connect is generally impressive, there are some features that don't quite live up to expectations. When we try to use the "stop listening" command, we find that it doesn't always pick up on our voice commands correctly. Additionally, when we attempt to use certain voice commands for specific apps, they sometimes fail to work.

A comparison with PlayStation

As we conclude our review of the Xbox One Connect, we can't help but think about how it stacks up against its rival, PlayStation. While both devices have their strengths and weaknesses, it's clear that the Xbox One Connect has a more sophisticated set of features and gestures. With more apps and commands available, the Xbox One Connect feels like a more comprehensive solution for your living room entertainment needs.

A demonstration of the device's capabilities

Finally, we demonstrate some of the Xbox One Connect's lesser-known features. We try using a series of silly voice commands, including "come on Xbox" and "try closing your hands." To our surprise, these commands work surprisingly well, highlighting the device's ability to understand and respond to even the most unusual voice inputs.

Conclusion

In conclusion, our experience with the Xbox One Connect has been overwhelmingly positive. While there are some features that don't quite work as expected, the device's overall responsiveness and adaptability make it an impressive addition to any living room entertainment setup. If you're looking for a convenient way to control your TV and access various apps and games, the Xbox One Connect is definitely worth considering.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's going on everyone it's your average consumer this is my girlfriend hello and today we're going to be showing you guys some of the features and gestures of the Xbox One Connect now let's see what happens if we want to turn on the Xbox One using just voice commands to turn on the TV as well this really cool that you can hook up your Xbox to the model of TV that you have and kind of control it in every way possible and I'll do the honors Xbox on awesome so we know you know you're successful when you see the little white the logo light up uh and it has a high success rate so that's a good thing yeah definitely does so you can always just walk into a room say Xbox on and then it'll get going right away yeah so let's see here it already recognize me that's cool so we're going to start off by showing um recording the actual TV section because the Elgato game capture cannot capture the television side of things so we're going to start off with that first so Xbox watch TV and it looks like we still had it snapped from last time so Xbox unsnap so pretty good so far Xbox watch Cartoon Network hey we're not done with you yet Xbox mute Xbox mute there we go Xbox volume up on the TV you mean get up from the S and changing manually times when people aren't lazy sounds a little extreme man okay so I thought we said Fox News XO Nelson Mandel's estate is million there we go Xbox one guy so this is pretty cool if you want to see what's playing what's on right now let's see if we can scroll through it I wonder how long the hand has to be out I don't know if you can even maybe needs to read me oh here you go all right so I should grab and scroll see but I don't like scrolling with it because it goes really fast let's see if we try to make it more controlled try snack closing your hand again cuz I see it so could bring it down but like that's pretty fast to go through yeah the gestures are not like the hand gestures are not my favorite thing now let just do what it want Xbox stop all right so uh let's see what else is there that we want to do with TV Xbox watch Disney Channel so it gets the name's wrong of the the going to direct channels is a little difficult um so far the most successful one I found is Cartoon Network and I guess that's because it has a name like Cartoon Network and what's one thing that you're not seeing is because we have it mute but if it if the sound is on and you're trying to give it a voice command it you have to really yell to kind of struggle so a tip would probably be just to mute it first so they can give your command because it can't hear your your voice over its own volume yeah it kind of struggles with that it can be done but it tends to struggle yeah so but that's also if you're playing it at louder volumes so uh let's see Xbox unmute Xbox unmute do you still notice the tattoo and sometimes we find you know uh Xbox watch bet um can I do a gold stud like one finger Xbox watch ABC you know what Xbox go home Xbox go home Xbox go home so you have to like yell over it so Xbox mute so as you can see that that was a perfect example of having to yell to get it but like I said the it depends on your volume but you want to be able to hear it especially you know you're listening to TV now what we're going to do is actually turn on the Elgato game capture card to show you guys all the other stuff now that we're kind of done with the TV side you can see it functions well sometimes and you know it has a lot of functionality but it misses the mark quite a few times especially when it comes to volume being up and stuff like that that's a huge I think that's one of the biggest complaints that I have about it having to yell and also another thing to note is when you're yelling you tend to not speak you know as clearly you don't you're like frustrated and you're like Xbox and it's not really that's controlled yeah and now it thingss you want to turn it off no all right so time for Elgato so let's do Rise Son Of Rome so that's the game that's inside of there ACH with cine and do the games have certain commands the games do have commands from what I've seen so far with this game you can have some commands I don't know how often they come up it's like the story Xbox yeah there's nothing well you can do the record that to see the game play yeah that's so you can do that like that game recording yeah but you know what go to killer in in go to killer intin and that sucks too sometimes if you're get if you get it wrong and you want to you know finish saying what you were saying it kind of disappears on you you got to call it back yeah Xbox go to Killer Instinct what's that it's another game so what's really cool is that it jumps once you tell the command it jumps through it really quickly Xbox go to Skype don't going to care about Killer Instinct Xbox go to Internet Explorer so it's at least responding fast even though got the command wrong Xbox go to Explorer some you really have to enunciate sometimes to really make sure you get it right okay show address bar show address bar and usually at the top corner it says stop listening when you want it to stop listening that means it's currently listening but we find that if we just give it a command while it shows that it's still not listening yeah Xbox select browse to facebook.com there you go cool that worked at least scroll up was already up oh scroll down cool that was responsive yeah uh let's see here well go home so I'm guessing that when it showing that that's only for the app not the Xbox in general so Xbox go home okay so Xbox snap so you can see show snap mhm so music snap music I think you have to say the you see it's weird though because when I like I said when it has the little text stop listening right yeah it should be able to just pick up on the little text that is on the app yeah but it doesn't do that all the time at all yeah so that's uh just a quick overview of what it looks like um some of the voice commands so our overall experience has been like it's been pretty responsive responsive enough for us to not need to use our remote control so we can just like fall back on our lazy side but if you're someone who gets like easily frustrated yeah you definitely don't want to rely on it yeah so oh let me show another cool feature where you can just go like this come on Xbox you're making me look bad you try it bab like this out yeah and oh my goodness all right what's it supposed to do it's supposed to go home so try closing your hands okay and then bring it together well a lot of these features didn't work out so well so this is what you get Xbox go home we should do a comparison video for the PlayStation one yeah PlayStation definitely isn't as sophisticated though it doesn't have as many apps and it doesn't have as many commands for sure Xbox turn off oh maybe you need to see this no I don't think it's going to do it Xbox turn off yes yes yeah we're giving up so guys hopefully enjoyed our pretty bad demonstration of all the Xbox One and connect gestures not all of them just some of them but this just to goes to show you how well it works and you can see for yourself just how good it is at listening to everything you tell it to yep so we'll catch you guys in the next video till then it's average consumer and his girlfriend arry peace\n"
