Porsche 911 GT3 RS 2018 review _ 513bhp roadgoing racer tested _ Autocar

the front also like the gt2 rs it has these naca ducts on the bonnet which direct air straight onto the front brakes now you can have steel rotors or you can have carbon ceramic rotors if you do lots of track work then you might want the steel discs because actually they're cheaper to replace otherwise the carbon ceramics reduced the unsprung mass by 14 kilograms those ducks of calling the brakes mean the new front bumper alongside it's expert radiator cooling duties can now help direct air underneath the car to a flap that balances out the aerodynamics of the front to rip the rear wing is larger than the last gt3 rs is and it gets what they call its 3d end plate now like the end plates on an aeroplane wing they help maintain pressure over the wing itself so aerodynamically this car is more efficient than a cup car it generates almost as much downforce but much less drag the wheels and tires are the same as you'll find on a gt2 rs - apart from the rear tire compound and the fact that the wheels say gt3 rs on the rim that you can't get magnesium rims this year because production is limited and they are all allocated to gt2 RS is with a vice hoc pack inside there is perforated Alcantara for the first time in otherwise it's a pure GT Porsche interior ie it's really nice if you spec the visor package the roll cage is titanium the roof becomes carbon fiber and the whole car weighs 28 kilograms less than a standard gt3 rs so what's it like well we are on a slightly slippery nurburgring GP circuit which is smooth ish wine ish it's got so much the rock when you you really read it it is magnificent the steering is absolutely terrific because it's rays go into there's no slack or anything on that but also well I can't quite get my head around is how they make the steering's so direct and so responsive video if you run over bumps and curves there's no kickback there's nothing nasty or unrefined about it it's just it's magnet there's so much grip of the front end and because these carries 40 or so kilos lighter than a gt2 RS it feels not me rigid because you can feel the engine its location helping move the car around but it's the because it's that bit lighter it really is unbelievably agile in terms just fabulously and then it grips and you can feel the grip shuffling around from one end to the other it's just absolutely spectacular so good I don't think any other car just presents you in this sort of level of engineering feel and just says yeah go on just you know just experience it just just feel it there's quite a nice line from andreas prying her who's the boss of Porsches GT department he says it's 11000 components acting as one and I just kind of absolutely nobody means there's no other car I don't think that a GT 911 that just lets you feel the integrity of engineering within it and there are some other great cars MacLaren's Ferraris Astin's I think maybe MacLaren's come closest to this level of interaction and feel it's so so good the body control is just so magnificent so sweet all the time Spring Break sir a hi they're almost as high as the cars basically they're almost racecar there was a stiffness but it doesn't it's not harsh at the same time which is just extraordinary is it the steering is in the engine response what is it that stands out most about this car you're not sure what it is like it's just the way that it all melds together it all comes together in a way but if somebody turned round and said I want the best drivers car on sale I want the best car on sale you can buy today wouldn't need one of those again mike tells me they do this every time don't make you think surely they can't make this better than the last one how could it can't be better than the last gt3rs and then the gt3 of this generation comes out and you think well how can it get any better than that this then all the gt2 RS I suppose that's the question because the two rs is seriously good and nowhere near as unhinged as 2 rs is of old but this is basically got the same chassis collapsed a reduction in weight put it back which means I think makes it a nicer car to drive

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwelcome then to the new gt3 RS doesn't need a surname does it it's like Kylie it's one of those things you just know it's a Porsche 911 gt3 RS to give it its full name so what is it it's just a gt2 RS with a naturally aspirated motor isn't it there's a bit more to it than that but in short that's not a million miles away this is the sort of motor sport derived 911 at the ultimate tight if you like it arrives towards the end they're benign Levin's Model Cycle it is the car that Porsche originally developed so it could Kamala gate to uprights for a race car that is by the first RS ah right only 99 six generation company and since then they thought well maybe we'll sell a few hundred sold a few thousand and since then it has become just a tidy model line in its own right engine that is what makes this car isn't it and naturally aspirated floor liter basically a cup engine turned up here to 520 ps/hp so far 515 are the old horsepower it register 9,000 power a 250 makes it torque which is only 360 pounds before something that's 6,000 that gives you some kind of only room now ready and spinny this engineers drives only the rear wheels openly through a 7-speed PDK twin-clutch gearbox the gt3 RS as ever gets quite a body work from the turbo or the gt2 RS I like the gt2 RS it is rose jointed all the way around on the suspension on the front also like the gt2 RS it has these NACA ducts on the bonnet which direct air straight onto the front brakes now you can have steel rotors or you can have carbon ceramic rotors if you do lots of track work then you might want the steel discs because actually they're cheaper to replace otherwise the carbon ceramics reduced the unsprung mass by 14 kilograms those Ducks of calling the brakes mean the new front bumper alongside it's expert radiator cooling duties can now help direct air underneath the car to a flap that balances out the aerodynamics of the front to rip the rear wing is larger than the last gt3 RS is and it gets what they call its 3d end plate now like the end plates on an aeroplane wing they help maintain pressure over the wing itself so aerodynamically this car is more efficient than a cup car it generates almost as much downforce but much less drag the wheels and tires are the same as you'll find on a gt2 RS - apart from the rear tire compound and the fact that the wheels say gt3 RS on the rim that you can't get magnesium rims this year because production is limited and they are all allocated to gt2 RS is with a vice hoc pack inside there is perforated Alcantara for the first time in otherwise it's a pure GT Porsche interior ie it's really nice if you spec the visor package the roll cage is titanium the roof becomes carbon fiber and the whole car weighs 28 kilograms less than a standard gt3 RS so what's it like well we are on a slightly slippery nurburgring GP circuit which is smooth ish wine ish it's got so much the rock when you you really read it it is magnificent the steering is absolutely terrific because it's rays go into there's no slack or anything on that but also well I can't quite get my head around is how they make the steering's so direct and so responsive video if you run over bumps and curves there's no kickback there's nothing nasty or unrefined about it it's just it's magnet there's so much grip of the front end and because these carries 40 or so kilos lighter than a gt2 RS it feels not me rigid because you can feel the engine its location helping move the car around but it's the because it's that bit lighter it really is unbelievably agile in terms just fabulously and then it grips and you can feel the grip shuffling around from one end to the other it's just absolutely spectacular so good I don't think any other car just presents you in this sort of level of engineering feel and just says yeah go on just you know just experience it just just feel it there's quite a nice line from andreas prying her who's the boss of Porsches GT department he says it's 11000 components acting as one and I just kind of absolutely nobody means there's no other car I don't think that a GT 911 that just lets you feel the integrity of engineering within it and there are some other great cars MacLaren's Ferraris Astin's I think maybe MacLaren's come closest to this level of interaction and feel it's so so good the body control is just so magnificent so sweet all the time Spring Break sir a hi they're almost as high as the cars basically they're almost racecar there was a stiffness but it doesn't it's not harsh at the same time which is just extraordinary is it the steering is in the engine response what is it that stands out most about this car you're not sure what it is like it's just the way that it all melds together it all comes together in a way but if somebody turned round and said I want the best drivers car on sale I want the best car on sale you can buy today wouldn't need one of those again mike tells me they do this every time don't make you think surely they can't make this better than the last one how could it can't be better than the last gt3rs and then the gt3 of this generation comes out and you think well how can it get any better than that this then all the gt2 RS I suppose that's the question because the two RS is seriously good and nowhere near as unhinged as 2 RS is of old but this is basically got the same chassis collapsed a reduction in weight put it back which means I think makes it a nicer car to drive and to be honest I prefer the naturally aspirated engine just cuz it revs to 9,000 and has got that fabulous fabulous total responsive it is just an all-encompassing experience there is no other carwelcome then to the new gt3 RS doesn't need a surname does
