BTCC 2016 Rounds 28, 29, 30 - Brands Hatch Highlights _ Autocar

Matt Jackson's Brilliant Win and Gordon Shedon's Historic Victory

Matt Jackson took a brilliant win for Motorbase Performance at the final round of the British Touring Car Championship, securing second spot in the process. The on-going orange Civic pulled away into the middle distance as Matt watched, unable to intervene further.

Meanwhile, Adam Morgan's Mercedes eventually crossed the line ahead of Tor Off, who was unfortunate enough to finish fourth, despite a valiant effort to reclaim his position. Meanwhile, Andrew Jordan took the Independent Drivers Trophy and Motorbase Performance won the independence team honors after a season long battle with Michael EPS.

Gordon Shedon Celebrates Historic Victory

The Checkered Flag fell on the last race of the Season as Sheldon fended off attacks from Morgan's Racing Mercedes, securing third spot superbly. This victory marked a remarkable comeback for the 37-year-old driver, who had been fighting back throughout the year following a challenging start to his title defense.

Shedon's success was all the more impressive as he became the first driver to win back-to-back Titles since Fabrizio Gancarossi in 2007 and 2008. The victory was particularly sweet, given that Shedon had been narrowly defeated by Tor Off in the previous year's championship, with a margin of just two points.

BMW Secures Manufacturers Constructor Championship

The BMW Team secured the manufacturers constructor championship for the season, while Team JAS, with Guardex, won the team title. The Jack Sears Trophy, which was awarded to Ash Sutton, who had an impressive maiden BTCC campaign with MG Racing RCB Insurance, was also given out.

Sheldon Celebrates Historic Victory

For Sheldon, the victory marked a historic moment in his career, as he became the first driver to win back-to-back titles since 2007. The victory was all the more impressive, given that Shedon had been under pressure throughout the season, and that he had narrowly missed out on the drivers' crown by just two points.

Sheldon's Success Was a Surprise

Many pundits had predicted that Sheldon would not win the title, given his lack of form mid-season. However, he was able to claw back from his poor performance to take the championship by a narrow margin. The victory was a testament to Shedon's determination and skill as a driver.

The Last Lap was Crucial for Sheldon

The final lap of the season was crucial for Sheldon, as it allowed him to secure the title. Adam Morgan put pressure on him during this lap, but Sheldon remained focused and calm, ultimately securing the championship.

Sheldon Reflects on his Victory

When asked about his victory, Sheldon reflected on the significance of the win. He stated that he had been enjoying the season and was not feeling confident coming into the final round. However, he was able to find a rhythm and secure the title in the end. He also praised Adam Morgan's performance, stating that he had good pace but was unable to pass him.

Sheldon's Reaction to his Victory

When asked about his reaction to winning the championship, Sheldon stated that it was an amazing feeling. He said that he had enjoyed the season and was thrilled to have come out on top. When questioned about his thoughts during the final lap of the season, Sheldon revealed that he had a bit of a panic when Sam Craven started to close in on him. However, he remained calm and focused, ultimately securing the victory.

The Future Ahead for Sheldon

With his back-to-back titles secured, Sheldon is now set to enjoy a well-deserved rest. He will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest drivers in British Touring Car Championship history, and his victory will go down in the annals of racing history as one of the most impressive.
