The M135i: A Tuned to Perfection
As we sat in the passenger seat, I couldn't help but notice the subtle differences between this tuned M135i and its stock counterpart. The exhaust valve that was previously closed now opens up with a loud whoosh, signaling the start of our test drive. The sound is much louder than before, a significant improvement over the stock car's muted tone. This change alone tells us that something has been done to enhance the performance of this vehicle.
The M135i feels like a completely different car from its stock version. It accelerates more quickly and responds faster to the driver's input, making it feel quicker than the stock car, even when compared to other models in the same class. Kenny, our host, has made significant modifications to improve the overall driving experience. The tuned engine produces impressive numbers, with a 0-100 km/h time of 4.2 seconds, beating both the stock M135i and the BMW M140i.
The suspension upgrade is another area where Kenny has made improvements. The car's ride height has been reduced, and it feels more stable on the road. This is particularly noticeable when cornering or braking hard, as the car's grip and handling are improved significantly. The tuned M135i also benefits from a revised ASN gearbox setup, which reduces lag and makes the car feel quicker to respond to driver input.
The X Drive system has also been tweaked to optimize power delivery. With more power than the stock model, it's eager to send torque to the rear wheels when losing grip at the front. This makes the tuned M135i more of a four-wheel drive car than its stock counterpart. The results speak for themselves, with an 11.5-second run from 0-200 km/h, outperforming both the BMW M140i and the new Golf GTI.
The exterior changes are equally impressive, giving the car a more aggressive look that's hard to ignore. Kenny has opted for a bold front end design, complete with winglets, a splitter, side skirts, and an upgraded exhaust system. The overall effect is one of sharpness and modernity, making this M135i stand out from its stock brethren.
One minor complaint we have is the tinted rear lights, which some may find distracting or unappealing. However, this is a relatively minor quibble in what otherwise is a flawless tuning job. Kenny has managed to eliminate most of the common issues with the M135i, producing a car that's both impressive and refined.
In conclusion, Kenny's tuned M135i is an outstanding example of how to take a car to the next level without sacrificing its inherent charm. The combination of improved performance, handling, and styling results in a truly exceptional driving experience. If you're looking for a tuned M135i that can give you an edge on the road, look no further – this one's a real gem.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up ladies and gentlemen and welcome to this POV review by autotop now my name is Max and today we've got a visitor from Belgium his name is Kenny and he's got a 2020 BMW m135i and he has fixed quite a few problems on this car this is a tuned car with an exhaust and he went absolutely berserk with the BMW M performance accessories brochure folder whatever it ticked them all and and we're going to show you around it today I'm going to take a look at all the mods that Kenny made to his car and then we'll take it for a drive towards the autan for an aan blast and you can also follow Kenny on Instagram at misano m135i or you can check us out on Instagram as well at autotop okay so the F40 BMW m135i we've made a review with it in the past uh click in the top right corner if you want to check that out it's a very flawed car of course it had very big shoes to fill coming from the m140i 340 horsepower inline 6 beautiful beautiful b58 engine and we went to this b48 2 L 4- cylinder turbocharged engine um we also went from rear wheeel drive to a front-wheel drive biased four-wheel drive system so it's basically the same like a halex system on a on a golf R uh it's mainly front wheel drive it only sends power to the rear when the front wheels can't cope anymore so the concept is completely different and we petrol heads uh especially we BMW six-cylinder lovers and rear wheeel drive lovers we don't really like this car but it's actually a pretty good car if you would bring out this car if you would develop and present this car without all the history it would be a pretty good H hatch actually there are a few drawbacks to it as I said it's a pretty flawed car but most of those flaws are inherited by you know having such a cool predecessor in the m140i so we're going to start with the exterior because as I said Kenny went nuts with the m performance stuff so we've got the M performance Grill well he has selected the M performance back uh which gives you all the black accents around the car so the grill in the bumpers as well uh the mirrors the window surrounds the diffuser all black that package saves 10 kilos it has an altered floor of the car and it also deletes the uh floor in the boot which means well not which means uh the package also means that you go from 4.8 seconds to 100 uh to 4.7 seconds to 100 so yeah pretty weird didn't know that um but that means that we have all the black stuff around it we also have these little stickers on the lights at the front which gives it a pretty angry look and normally I'm not a fan of that but I quite like this because I think it it it kind of works on this car I'm not a big fan of the front end of this car I think it looks a bit I don't know Chubb is a bit weird a bit too round I I don't know uh but Kenny has added the uh M performance bumper stuff so in Black these little winglets this is black and then you've got those angry lights it actually works pretty well I think now we've also got these wheels 18in in dark gray a really cool match with the misano blue and all the black stuff he also painted his brake calipers in Gold yeah I don't know uh they're not ceramic brakes I I I get that it looks cool but yeah they're not Ceramics okay moving on um Kenny also upgraded his mirrors so with that M performance pack you get black mirrors but uh these are like m style mirrors with that little extension right there we've got M performance stickers on the side and side skirt with that winglet right there and at the rear we've got the M performance rear wing which looks awesome black logo and then we've got the black diffuser and in there we've got an acrapovic exhaust so this is the rear silencer as you can see with a crap ofage running running to I think the mid silencer so that actually helps this car a lot because that's what I was talking about one of the flaws of this car it sounds like a vacuum cleaner and uh this should fix that problem because we also have an evenur intake and an nrap link pipe so uh this car has no OPF anymore which does a lot for the sound in combination with the inventory and the acrapovic um rear silencer so yeah that that's a couple of problems fixed already um then we've got another problem that from the M1 40i 340 horsepower we went to 306 from this b48 4 cylinder so it's actually a downgrade uh we do have 450 newm which is quite a lot but this car is not stock so ASD tuning has tuned this car to 352 horsepower and 533 newm of torque that is a lot um we've heard from several BMW tuners that they don't really like to tune this engine because it's already running 1.7 bar of Turbo pressure and uh yeah it it might be a bit too much uh this engine this drivetrain suffers from heat soak which means that it all gets too hot which means that everything gets too hot and then you have this vicious cycle of everything getting too hot 352 horsepower is I think what this car should have had to begin with but I get that you know that's probably not possible but all right in here we've got the M performance seats banana seats as Kenny calls them and uh well we've got one very nice upgrade well actually three the steering wheel is one with Alcantara and and performance here with that carbon fiber and then we've got two and three the padal shifters very very nice with that bare carbon again and those little red minus and plus signs on really really like that that's a beautiful steering wheel so let's start it up now uh that was a startup in Comfort let's try that again in sport okay so can we you can actually hear the uh the exhaust valve that's closed that's open now let's start it up again that's better so that is a lot louder than before and man it can use it all right let's take it for a drive and see what it's like over there because yeah the difference is huge so the car actually feels so different from the stock car and that has a couple of reasons of course the sound is much much better uh the stock car sounds well like nothing it's it's really bad um the second thing is that the stock car doesn't feel that quick especially when you come from an M14 or an m135i even uh the new one just doesn't feel that quick so let's do a launch control as I said this car has the M performance pack which means 4.7 to 100 now we measured the regular one nonm performance pack m135 I at 4.68 and we measured this one at 4.2 seconds 4.2 that is seriously quick um that is impressive and that really solves a second problem in my opinion that it's just not impressive enough well this is this in so many ways is what this car should have been it's just a better version of what BMW came up with and I really love that I I love it when that happens when people bring their tuned cars and it's like yeah okay this is what it should have been it's pretty rare that that happens but it's the case with this one now Kenny told us that he was thinking about doing a suspension upgrade as well or at least lowering it um and it can definitely use that because not only does it sit very high on its Wheels but it's also a bit soft a bit distant a bit Yeah weird it it it could definitely use a suspension upgrade I think it would help the car a lot and it doesn't even have to go that much lower just just make it a bit stiffer I think you would have a a really really good H hatch because as a car um the m135i the new one series is a really good car it's it's very spacious and it's comfortable and it's it's grown up it's a very good car but as a hold hatch it's a bit flawed and there are a few things you can do Kenny has done most of them to improve that and I think a suspension upgrade would help this car even more now you can also feel that there are two other things on the car that haven't been changed that feel like they benefit from the tune so we've got the ASN gearbox which you guys probably know we're not the biggest fans of and it feels like because of the Freer flowing driv trade the gearbox benefits from that it just feels less sluggish and the other thing is the X drive system as I said it's front wheel biased there's the limiter 2 58 59 um the X drive system is front-wheel bias but because you have more power it's more eager to send power to the rear because it's losing grip at the front more quickly so it sends more power to the rear more quickly which makes it more of a four-wheel drive car and I think the car benefits from that as well that is one dedicated left L driver what okay there he goes okay so of course we also measured the 100 to 200 km an hour performance and we measured an 11 and 1/2 second run which is pretty freaking decent it's actually quicker than a BMW m140i it's quicker than a new golf are it's quicker than a BMW 1M so it's definitely delivering on that end as well so 0 to 100 quicker 100 to 200 quicker it's actually 2 seconds quicker than the stock car which is a very very big Improvement so Kenny fixed basically almost all of the down sides of the downfalls of this car uh with this m135i and I really love to see that uh it looks better if you ask me although I really don't like those tinted rear lights but quite on set please I do think the front end with those winglets with that little splitter the side skirts the the the acreage exhaust it all looks much more aggressive and I really like that I like the way it sounds it delivers performance- wise as well so yeah not much to complain here and we don't have any like fake pops and bags either you have a a little crackle on the overrun or on the downshift sometimes but yeah this is tuning done right let's uh end it there I hope you enjoyed this review Kenny thank you so much for taking your car to us
