Meta One: Ultimate AR Glasses?

I'm Austin, and today I'm excited to share with you my experience with the Meta One Developer Kit, a revolutionary augmented reality (AR) glasses that have been making waves in the tech world. I was invited to try out this innovative technology at Meta's campus in San Francisco, and I must say, it was an eye-opening experience.

The Meta One Developer Kit is a mix of Oculus Rift and Google Glass, with a transparent design that allows you to see through to the real world while experiencing AR content. The current developer kit is still in its early stages, but it has tremendous potential. It's a bit bulky, but packed with impressive technology, including a pair of cameras: one 720p RGB camera alongside an IR camera that tracks depth. These cameras allow for incredible precision and accuracy, making the AR experience feel almost lifelike.

I spent some time with the Meta One Developer Kit, and I was blown away by its unique features. For example, it allows you to "reach out and grab" objects in the virtual world with just a few seconds of latency, tracking not only your hand but also your head movements. This level of responsiveness is uncanny, making it feel like you're truly interacting with the digital environment.

What struck me most about this experience was how it reminded me of touch screens becoming popular. Just like how touch screens revolutionized the way we interact with devices, AR technology has the potential to transform the way we engage with our surroundings. With the Meta One Developer Kit, you can simply "touch" virtual objects, move them around, and manipulate them without needing to think about it.

However, I did encounter some issues while using the headset, particularly with seeing a clear image without wearing the glasses. But once I put them on under the headset, it helped quite a bit, making up for the trade-off of being a bit uncomfortable.

The Meta One Developer Kit is shipping to people who pre-ordered this technology, but what's exciting is that Meta is already working on a more polished version. They're calling it the Meta Pro, and it promises to be even better than the original kit. The Meta Pro will feature improved 720p screens, making the AR experience even more vivid and immersive.

One of the most impressive aspects of this technology is its software. It's built with the kind of flexibility that allows you to essentially "identify important areas" in your environment where you can stick holograms. This means you can create customized AR experiences tailored to your specific needs, without needing any special setup. The Meta team is also serious about capturing the essence of Iron Man's vision from the comics and movies, hiring designers like Jay Hansen who have experience with creating innovative user interfaces.

While the screens on the current developer kit are decent but not as clear as they could be, this is a minor issue that will likely be addressed in future iterations. What would make an even bigger difference, however, would be if the headset were entirely standalone – meaning it wouldn't require tethering to a laptop or any other device.

Despite these limitations, Meta is hard at work on improving these issues and is expected to have a more refined product in a year or two. So what do you guys think? Are you interested in metaglasses like this? Definitely let me know your thoughts in the comments below. Thanks for watching, and I'll catch you all in the next one!

where I got to try out their augmented reality glasses the easiest way to describe it is a mix between Oculus Rift and Google Glass you have a screen for each eye similar to Oculus but it's transparent like glass so you can see through to have content appear in the real world the current developer kit is definitely early but it has potential it's a bit bulky but there's a lot of Technology packed in here up top are a pair of cameras a 720 P RGB camera alongside an IR camera that tracks depth the screens are reached 960x 540 which while not incredibly high resolution Works decently considering you can see through the display it doesn't entirely take up your vision but there are a pair of lenses included to give you either a normal field of view or to magnify the screen to make everything a bit easier to see all right so spent a little time with the meta 1 developer kit and I've got to say this is a very unique experience I've tried a few AR things but just being able to reach out grab this may Reach Out grab it move it wherever I want it tracks not only with my hand but with my head as well and it's really interesting like for example I hold my hand up here it's really impressive like how it just able it's able to track my individual fingers with just a minute I can just like Reach Out grab this move it over here it's not like something I have to think about it's just very very natural kind of reminds me when kind of touch screens start to become popular just like oh yeah you just touch it of course you don't need a mouse you don't need a keyboard you don't need all these things it just works I had some issues seeing a clear image without my glasses but when I put them on under the headset it helped quite a bit with the trade-off of being a bit uncomfortable right now the first developer kit is shipping to people who pre-ordered but meta is also working on a more polished version The Meta Pro this is a much nicer looking pair of glasses with better 720p screens that will be portable with a small pocket computer versus the developer kit that needs to be Tethered to a laptop so the output is comprise of see-through stereoscopic uh displays that allow you to superimpose augmented reality information on the real world and the input is comprised of a depth sensor that essentially builds a really really high fidelity map of the environment and then we build software to essentially identify important areas in your environment that you could stick holograms on so it's essentially that sort of Iron Man vision from the garage where he places Holograms selectively around the room the software really is the impressive part here with basically no setup The Meta will track your hands as well as the environment around you remembering where things are even as you look around they're serious about the Iron Man angle as well as they've hired Jay Hansen the designer of the uis from Iron Man and the Avengers along with Ender Game usually a 2d designer is going to be used to like a grid that's on a 2d plane and so it's very XY and they're not used to thinking about um things in zspace and now we've got this new uh Dimension literally in the glasses that we can design for I've been looking enough to like do it in films and so now it's kind of like this exciting new thing that we actually get to make it real so it's pretty cool both The Meta 1 developer kit and meta Pro were a work in progress the screens while decent still aren't as clear as they could be and being able to have the headset be entirely Standalone would be a huge plus that said meta is hard at work on these problems and more so with another year or two of work they could really have something here so what do you guys think is metag glass something
