Here's Everything That's Broken on the Cheapest Aston Martin Rapide (And Murcielago Engine Out!)

The Thrill of Engine Removal: A Step-by-Step Guide to Taking Down a Lamborghini's Complex Powerplant

As I stood alongside the iconic Lamborghini, gazing at its sleek design and powerful engine, I couldn't help but feel a sense of awe. The task at hand was daunting, if not downright intimidating – removing the engine from this marvel of engineering. But with the guidance of the seasoned mechanic, Wizard, I embarked on this journey, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

The process began with a thorough inspection of the transmission, which revealed that it was a rear-mount transmission. A torque tube separated the engine from the transmission, and as we carefully removed the intake runners and spark plugs, the extent of the job became clear. With 12 new spark plugs and intake runners installed, the car was running smoothly once again – or so it seemed.

The real test began when Wizard mentioned that the transmission had been done previously, leaving us wondering if this particular Lamborghini was due for another overhaul. After a brief pause, we decided to wait until the check engine light flickered back to life before proceeding with the removal of the engine. This was largely a formality, but one that brought me face-to-face with my own mortality.

As Wizard prepared for the task ahead, I couldn't help but feel a sense of trepidation. The engine's location seemed almost precarious, wedged in between the transmission and the car itself. With the first bolt removed, our confidence grew – until we realized just how stuck the engine was. A boat-stud type bolt held it firmly in place, refusing to budge without some serious elbow grease.

With the engine separated from its foundation, Wizard expertly maneuvered a hydraulic hoist into position, ready to lift the entire unit clear of the transmission. The power steering pump came loose, and the fluid began to drain – but not before we realized just how precarious our setup was. A sturdy 5,000-pound strap from Harbor Freight would be our only hope for keeping everything in place as we raised it higher and higher.

Finally, with a deep breath, Wizard released the final straps, allowing the engine to swing free of its moorings. Time seemed to slow down as I watched in awe as this magnificent machine began to rise into the air, threatening to leave me clinging to my chair for dear life. And then – just as suddenly – it was over. The engine hung suspended in mid-air, a testament to Wizard's skill and our collective bravery.

With the engine now free from its transmission, we turned our attention to the new, high-tech exotic clutch that would replace the worn-out original. A comparison between the two revealed just how much wear and tear had taken its toll on this Lamborghini. As Wizard carefully extracted the old clutch and prepared it for disposal, I couldn't help but feel a sense of respect for the powerplant we'd just freed from its prison.

In the days that followed, Wizard set to work reassembling the engine, using the new transmission and clutch to breathe life back into this Lamborghini. As he worked his magic, I found myself drawn in by the intricate dance of bolts and components – each one a testament to the engineering prowess of the engineers who'd crafted this vehicle.

As we finally put the car's powerplant back together, Wizard turned to me with a knowing smile. The transmission was now securely attached, the engine safely ensconced within its cradle. It had been a long journey, filled with moments of sheer terror and awe-inspiring wonder – but in the end, it was all worth it. For in that moment, I knew that this Lamborghini would roar back to life, its V12 engine purring smoothly as we took it for a spin around the block.

The aftermath of our work left me feeling strangely exhilarated – perhaps it was the sheer thrill of removal itself, or maybe it was just the knowledge that I'd played a small part in bringing this magnificent machine back into action. Whatever the reason, I knew that I'd never forget this experience, and that the memories of our time together with Wizard would stay with me for a long time to come.
