**Installing AltStore and Jailbreaking Your iOS Device**
The process of installing AltStore and jailbreaking your iOS device is a multi-step process that requires some technical know-how. To start, you'll need to plug your device into a computer with internet access, select your device under "Install AltStore" in the AltServer menu in your taskbar, and enter your Apple ID to authorize the install. Once the installation is complete, you should see the AltStore icon on your iOS homescreen.
However, since this is considered a self-signed app by Apple, you'll need to navigate into your device's settings and authorize the app before you can run it. Once authorized, head over to the uncoverjailbreak website on your phone and click the "open in old store" button. If prompted, re-enter your Apple ID to complete the installation.
One important note is that there's an expiry date on the apps due to self-signing with your own Apple ID. Without an Apple Developer subscription, you can only sign an app for seven days. To mitigate this issue, AltStore will automatically phone home to your system when you're on the same network to renew those certifications. However, if you find yourself away from home for a while, it's possible that you might not receive automatic renewal, meaning you may need to re-flash the apps or go without a jailbreak for a few days.
**Setting Up Cydia**
Once you've successfully installed AltStore and authorized the app, open up the uncover app and hit "jailbreak." It will do some necessary work and then prompt you for a reboot. Click OK, wait for the device to boot up again, open uncover, and click "jailbreak" once more. This will reboot your device in a jailbroken state with a brand new app called Cydia.
Cydia is what's known as a package manager, kinda like the App Store but for jailbreak stuff. It handles installing and updating any tweaks and themes that you want to install. And it's worth noting that while Cydia comes with lots of default repositories, many of the popular tweaks and themes are hosted on third-party repos, such as Packix or SparkDev. So we'll add those first to get access to the downloads for the tweaks that I wanted to install.
**Installing Tweaks and Themes**
The first tweak I installed was Snowboard, which is a theming engine that allows you to apply the viola theme that I mentioned earlier. It's really cool and customizable. Then, I proceeded to install a bunch of other tweaks, including SwipeSelection, which adds that keyboard swiping feature that was removed from 3D Touch; AutoUnlockX, which allows us to skip the notification shade on unlock; DigitalBattery13, which shows the battery percentage in the status bar; and Prism, which beautifies and adds haptic feedback to the iOS control center.
The crazy part is that this is just the tip of the iceberg. If you have a grievance with iOS, there's probably one of the hundreds of other super useful quality of life improving tweaks out there that will help you. So we've included a link to a Reddit post that lists a ton of them for your tinkering pleasure.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- I've said this before, even as an Android user, there's no denying that iOShas got a lot going for it.The issue for me is thatno matter how many timesI try to switch to it though,I always find a couple of tiny thingsthat Apple refuses to allowfor whatever convoluted reason, and it kind of ruinsthe experience for me.Like in the control center,a menu meant to give you quickaccess to common settings. You see the WiFi and Bluetooth toggles. They don't even turn off theirrespective radios anymore. The toggle just closesany active connectionsuntil Apple deems that theyshould be turned back on.And then how about theunremovable notification shadeon the lockscreen thatrequires you to swipe upevery time you unlockthe phone with face IDinstead of just droppingyou on the homescreenwhich is probably where you wanna be.It's little things like thisthat drives me up the wall.So when I saw the epicnew jailbreak releasedfor iOS 13.5 with supportfor every iPhone modelthat supports that version of iOS.I figured it was finallytime after all these yearsto take jailbreaking out for a spin.Speaking of spin, spin openyour wallet for a lot lesswith our sponsor Ting. Why pay for things youdon't need or even use?Ting wants to help you with thatby getting you to pay foronly the mobile data you use.Check it out at the linkbelow to find out more.(upbeat music)Going from nowall the way back to the earlydays of iOS jailbreaking. The main reason people did itwas to add or modify functionalitythat either wasn't present in iOS,or that Apple didn't allow or want. For example, featureslike the control center, touch gestures and darkmode already existedas jailbreak tweakslong before Apple everimplemented them officially. Then there's the peoplewho jailbroke their devicesto remove carrier restrictions.Remember when you had to payfor mobile data tetheringor to unlock a deviceso it can be used witha different carrier.Another huge reason peoplejailbreak are aesthetics. And these kinds of modsare all over the placeranging from themes like Violawhich reskins your menus and iconsto a beautified controlcenter with tweaks like Prism,or even Apple Watch stylestatus icons on the lockscreenwith a tweak called Complications. If you're like me and youprefer less rather than more, there's SimpleLS whichcan remove all the clutterfrom your lockscreen. And then there's the tabooside of jailbreaking, piracy. Many people jailbreak their devicesto get paid apps or services for free,or to cheat in mobile games. Now, all this is super cool, but jailbreaking has been onthe decline for many yearsdue to slow jailbreakreleases for new OSesinstability and Apple simply implementingmany of the featuresthat people originallyjailbroke their devices to get. However, maybe because Apple has beenkinda sitting on their thumbswhen it comes to iOS featuresin the last couple of years, things have been pickingup again with speedy, stable and easy jailbreaksfrom the team behind thelatest exploit, uncover. So how do you do it?First, you'll need a compatible device, you can see the fulllist of tested devicesover on uncover site, butessentially every modern iPhoneis supported all theway from iOS 11 to 13.5.Please note by the way guys,as of the day we filmed this video,Apple released iOS 13.5.1which patches this jailbreak. If you're not already on13.5 and you want to beyou can still update bydownloading the update filefrom the link in the descriptionand then shift clicking theUpdate button in iTunes.note though, that Apple maystop signing this versionat any time making it impossibleto update to it later. If you're already on iOS 13.5do not update to 13.5.1or you will lose yourability to jailbreak.Alright, with that out of the way. We're gonna assume thatyou're jailbreakingfrom a Windows computerbut if you're on Mac,the process is the essentially the same.So with the guidancefrom the uncover websiteand the links below, you should be able tojailbreak without issue.Start by downloading iTunes andiCloud from Apple's website. If you have the MicrosoftStore versions of them, you're gonna have to uninstall thosegrab the wind 32 versions, and then give yourself one of these, for ever touching the MicrosoftStore in the first place.Next, head over to the uncover siteand download an install AltServer. We're gonna use this softwareto self sign and then sideloadboth the AltStore and theuncover jailbreak apps.Once it's installed, plug in your iPhone.Trust the PC that you're plugged intoand select your deviceunder install AltStorein the AltServer menu in your taskbar.Enter your Apple ID toauthorize the installand within a few secondsyou should see it on your iOS homescreen. Now because this is whatApple deems a self signed app, you'll need to navigateinto the device settingsand authorize the appbefore you can run it.Once it's running, head over to the uncoverjailbreak site on your phoneand click the open in old store button. If you're prompted re-enter your Apple IDthen AltStore will installthe uncover jailbreak app.Now you might notice there'san expiry date on the apps. This is because you self signed the appswith your own Apple ID.And without an appledeveloper subscription, the longest you can signan app is for seven days.Don't worry, though, because the AltStore guys thought of this.So if you keep all serverrunning on your PC or Mac,the Store app will actuallyphone home to your systemwhen you're on the same networkto renew those certifications. If you do end up away fromhome for a while though,it's possible you might notget the automatic renewalmeaning that if your phonedies or is hard rebootedafter that seven day period, you might have to re-flash the appsor go without a jailbreak for a few days.Alright, disclaimer over. Now it's time to open up theuncover app and hit jailbreak. It'll do some stuff and thenprompt you for a reboot.Click OK and then once thedevice is booted again, open uncover, hit jailbreakagain and it will rebootin a jailbroken state with abrand new app called Cydia. That's it, your jailbroken!Cydia is what's knownas a package manager.Kinda like the underwear and lttstore.com.It handles
