Kodak Zi8 camera review

**Introduction to the Zi8 Camera**

We're here to review the Zi8 camera, a great entry-level video camera that's perfect for those on a budget. As we begin our recording session, we notice that the camera has a USB pop-out that directly connects to your camper. This feature is quite flexible and can be easily attached to various objects.

**Camera Design and Features**

At the bottom of the camera, we find nothing but a tripod jack, which fits nicely into a tripod. The button above it allows us to switch between landscape and macro modes. The macro mode is particularly useful for capturing close-up shots, and I've managed to take some amazing photos with this feature. On the back of the camera, there's only a lens and red light, indicating that we're ready to record.

**Battery Life and Power**

The battery compartment slides down, revealing a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. We can expect around one hour of usage from the battery, depending on our recording settings. The charger takes approximately two hours to fully charge. One thing to note is that the camera has a glossy plastic surface, making it prone to fingerprints.

**Recording Options and Performance**

When we press the record button, we're presented with various recording options. We can choose between WVGA and 720p at different frame rates. In this particular example, I'm getting approximately one hour of recording time with WVGA and 30 frames per second. However, when switching to 720p at 60 frames per second, I get around 39 minutes of recording time. The camera also has a 4GB memory card, which allows us to record for longer periods.

**Front-Panel Buttons and Settings**

On the front panel of the camera, we find several buttons that control playback, delete individual recordings, and access settings. Under settings, we can adjust the time, mode, power, and brightness of the LCD screen. There's also an option for external microphone input, which is useful if you plan to use a separate audio source.

**Image Stabilization and Face Detection**

The camera supports image stabilization, which is great if you're using it without a tripod. The EIS feature helps reduce camera shake and provides smoother footage. We can also enable face detection, which uses phase detection for more accurate focusing. However, if we use the default face detection mode, the focus might not be as sharp.

**Formatting SD Card and Playback**

We can format the SD card using the camera's settings menu. This feature is useful when transferring files to a computer or another device. The camera also has a playback function that allows us to review our recordings in real-time.

**Audio Quality and Accessories**

The built-in microphone of the Zi8 camera provides decent audio quality, but it can be prone to echo and ambient noise if not used carefully. However, using an external microphone can significantly improve the audio quality. The camera comes with a power adapter that has both USP-B and micro-USB ports. Additionally, there's an AV cable included for connecting the camera to standard TVs or devices.

**Conclusion**

Overall, I'm quite happy with the performance of this Zi8 camera, especially considering its affordable price point. While it may not excel in all aspects, it offers great value for those looking for a basic video camera. Just be aware that indoor lighting conditions can greatly affect image quality.

with 720p at 30 frames I'm getting about 39 minutes of recording and at 720p 60 frames per second which is good for action or taking photographs when you're out with the kids I am getting about 31 minutes with the 4 GB of memory card and at thousand ATP I again get about 33 minutes at second at 30 frames per second the other buttons that are located on on the front as the playback button if you stabilization this is good if you are using this camera without a tripod eye it's a good idea to use the EIS but it brings up a tree embed this this is a basically face detection option I highly suggest you to use the phase detection option because I found the focusing to be a lot better if the phase detection option is open we can format the SD card and this gives you the foam wave version that is loaded onto zi8 for recording it's very simple you just hit this big red button for example and it's recording now see we just pan around left to right and to stop the recording again you just press this surprisingly the audio quality of the microphone inbuilt microphone is acceptable I mean if the zi8 is close to your mouth just about six to seven inches from him from your face the audio recording is pretty good but if you are mounting this camera on a tripod I highly suggest that a user external microphone because if the camera is about four or five feet away from you it picks up a lot of echo and ambient noise accessories that i've got with this camera are the power adapter with a USP both this plugs in here you can also attach this to a computer to charge but it takes about twice as long you also get an AV cable so that you can attach this camera to your standard f or type television and I was surprised to see Kodak giving this high quality HDMI cable this is a mini HDMI to HDMI cable I caught this in the package I was really surprised because even with the ps3 or xbox you don't get an HDMI giving so kudos Philip could act for giving us the HDMI cable overall I'm pretty happy with the performance of this zi8 camera and it's a good entry-level video camera if you are on a budget the outside shots in natural daylight are pretty good but I found the in indoor the
