OnePlus 6T Review - The Good and The Bad

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enHi everyone Aaron here for ZolloTech andthis is the OnePlus 6T I've beenusing it for the past few weeks on andoff and I have to say overall it's beena positive experience so I wanted to goover the good and the bad about thisphone now the first thing you need toknow is this is the 128 gigabyte modelwith 8 gigabytes of RAM it comes in atabout five hundred and seventy ninedollars so it's a pretty good value forwhat you get is for storage and RAM andthen this is the mirror black versionand it's a fingerprint magnet but Ithink it looks really good there's alsoa mid midnight black that's a flat blackbut the mirror black looks really goodand let's talk about the first goodthing and the first good thing are thespecs so for that five hundred andseventy nine dollars you've got theeight gigs of ram like I said 128gigabytes of non-expandable storage andthe Snapdragon 845 so it's a really fasthigh-end spec phone and the nextpositive is the design this is a verypremium built phone it does not feellike something that is now well 579 it'snot exactly inexpensive but compared tosay a note 9 or an iPhone or a pixel allthe build quality this is probably atthe top of those it's really up there itdoesn't creak it doesn't have anythingthat feels loose all the all the displaycorners or or the edges feel smooth evenwith the screen protector on here it'ssmooth and around the back everything'sjust nice and smooth there's no there'sno hard edges or or sharp edges it'sreally well put together you've got thisdesign with USB see here you only getone speaker though and we'll talk moreabout that later and then we have thedesign you've got this little switchhere that I think they need toincorporate on every Android phone tosilence the phone and put it in silentmode here you can see vibrate or silentthat should be on every Android phoneit's just super convenient and a niceway to manage all of that and it's glasson the back glass on the front and metalall the way around so it's really nicethere and then you've got your volumebutton on this side and your SIM trayslot here so depending on the countryyou're in this will also be a dual SIMcard slot this is a t-mobile phone so itdoesn't have that in the next positiveis the display now they have this littlenotch here let me change this so you cansee it more clearly with a differentwallpaper so let me pick one of thestandard wallpapers here now I'veapplied a different stock wallpaper andyou can see the knotch and this notch isa nice teardrop and then you have almostall display the bottom part here is issmaller and then this display is a sixpoint four one inchoptic AMOLED display it's 1080 by twentythree forty with 402 pixels per inchnow when you compare it with otherreally high-end displays it doesn't lookas good but it's incredibly close itlooks much better better than lastyear's pixel to Excel and it's close tothe iPhones and the notes in the pixel3xl in in fact most people aren't goingto notice the difference but there is aslight bluish tint to it I've noticedbut that isn't that big of a deal andmost people won't even notice that nowthe next good thing is the camera thecameras on the back are 16 plus 20megapixel oh is or optically imagestabilized cameras with night capturenow I tested out the night captureagainst the pixel 3xl and against theiPhone 10s max just to see what this wascapable of at night without a flash ofcourse you could use a flash but let'stake a look at those now this is usingthe night mode of the OnePlus 6T andyou'll see it's really grainy it's notthe greatest photo at all and it doespick up more light than the iPhone XSMax that we see here but it is morenoisy as well so while you can't see awhole lot here when we switch over tothe Pixel 3 XL you can see a lot morehowever there is a lot of noise and inthe pictures just grainy overall now theOnePlus 6T and the Pixel 3 XL you cansee there's a big difference or bothkind of noisy but the Pixel 3 XL is alittle bit better you can see the cameradoes okay at night it's not like thePixel 3 XL but you could use a flashbut overall it's pretty good I wouldn'tsay this is the best camera on themarket I would give that to the Pixel 3XL the iPhones and the notes those arekind of up there this is just under thatin most things now it's really going todepend on if you're really pixel peepingand things like that overall though yourto be very pleased with the imagescoming off of this sensor with video aswell in fact the OnePlus One was one ofmy favorite video cameras at the timeand this one's pretty decent as wellnow the camera app itself is nice ofcourse you've got portrait mode you cansee here it locks on your face it does agood job and then if we spin the cameraaround you've got your different modesas well photo video of course portraitand it's really a pretty nice camera I'mvery impressed with it especially atthis price now the next positive thingis the battery 3,700 milliamp hours ofbattery so it's a very large battery itwill get you through a day no problem atthe end of the day you'll probably havea charge left maybe you'll be able to dowhat day and a half it just depends onhow you use the phone regularly ifyou're a very heavy user you'll probablyget through the day and then of courseyou've got the fast charging which theyused to call - charging in about 30minutes you'll get another full chargeso if you've got that charger in thereplug it in through USB C and you're goodto go now the next positive thing orgood thing is oxygen OS now this isrunning on android 9 pi with oxygen OSand i've got the button setup just likeAndroid 9 and it's super smooth this isthe smoothest Android phone I think onthe market right now at least that I'vetested normally I would give that to thepixel line of phones but in this case Igive it to the one plus 60 I'm not surewhat they've done here to optimize itI'm not sure if it has to do with theRAM and everything else but I have yetto see this hiccup switching back andforth going loading a webpage so youjust refresh that it's just super smoothgoing between whatever you're doinggoing back home going into the cameraloading an app going back out there'snot really anything you're going to doto slow this down at all now the nextthing I want to mention is in a newcategory that's good and bad now this isthe good and the bad but this is sort ofin between I would say it's a positivebecause I really like what OnePlus isdoing really kind of innovative and theyseem like a hungry company towardswhatever is new and I appreciate thatwith their fingerprint reader but thiscan also be a little bit slow at time soright there you saw it was fast andthere it was a little bit slower we wakeit up you'll see it's fast againdepending on I'll do that again see itwon't respond there we go and it wakesit upsometimes I'll put my finger on here andI'll wait a couple seconds and then itwill unlock or I can tap and let offweight and then it unlocks it's kind ofstrange and it is a newer technology andI'm not against this I like thistechnology but I do miss it on the backbeing super fast one plus is known forfast fingerprint readers this one justisn't as fast but if you if you reallyprize that being on the front of thephone especially if it's on a deskyou've got it here you want to unlockthat's definitely more convenient thanhaving it on the back so that's why Isay it's good and that it's a little bitslower it's mostly good so let's move onto the bad now OnePlus is all aboutnever subtle being the flagship killerwell this is one area where you kind ofhave to settle and that has to do withthe headphone jack they removed theheadphone jack to make way for thesensor or the camera that does thefingerprint sensor and because they didthat they literally have no room insidehere now maybe they could have fit itI'm not a phone engineer but maybe theycould have fitted in here somewherehowever with their model of never settleit's kind of settling a little bit so Ican live without it there's enoughphones without without the headphonejack now the iPhones the pixelseverything except for Samsung or some ofthe more inexpensive Android phones Ivalue the headphone jack this onedoesn't have it anywhere on the phoneand so that's the first bad thing thenext bad thing is no stereo speakers I'mreally used to stereo speakers oniPhones and the pixel foam I really likethat and you don't have that here you dohave it out at the bottom it's nice andloud it's clear and of course you canuse headphones and their headphones arepretty inexpensive and some of the bestout there for their price but it's it'sjust one speaker and if you're used tothose dual speakers that's an area whereyou're gonna have to compromise a littlebit it's not awful but it's somethingnoticeable the next thing is it does nothave an IP rating now OnePlusspecifically says with improved waterand dust resistance our latest flagshipcan follow you wherever you you go justdon't take it for a swimso they're saying it's more waterresistant than before but you shouldn'tswim with it and that's pretty true ofjust about any IP ratedhowever it's not officially IP rated andI'm assuming they didn't do that becauseyou have to pay for it I think if itwill withstand splashes maybe theoccasional puddle drop then you'll beokay other than that though I wouldn'tcount on it for being safe if it getssubmerged for any period of time thefinal negative or bad thingthere's no wireless charging now thishas a glass back they could have putwireless charging here I would think Iwould think you could fit it in thereit's a pretty small coil but theydecided not to do that now you do havethat huge battery to make up for thatand the super fast charging but withoutthe wireless charging it's one thing youjust don't get that you can get withsome other phones such as Samsung's orthe new pixel phones but this is areally nice phone there's not a wholelot negative about it and for the pricethey're very reasonable compromises thelack of that headphone jack is probablymy biggest complaint being that they'vealways said let's have a headphone jackand not settle so in this case they'vethey kind of changed that a little bitbut overall this is an amazingly greatphone for its value and I think mostpeople that pick one of these up wouldbe really happy about it and hard tofind and be hard to find anything wrongwith it especially the smoothness you'lldefinitely appreciate how fast thisthing is all the time it's just unlikeany other Android phone I've seen orused in this in this range or any rangereally it's just that smooth let me knowyour thoughts in the comments below ifyou
