THE BEAUTIFUL BY RENEE AHDIEH [BOOK REVIEW]

The Beautiful Book Review: A Mixed Bag of Vampires and Murder Mystery

I recently finished reading "The Beautiful" and I must say, it was a mixed bag of emotions for me. As someone who is often drawn to books with vampires as the main attraction, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with the amount of vampire action in this book. The author has been marketing this book as a vampire novel, and from the beginning, I expected to see a lot more of these blood-sucking creatures.

However, it quickly became apparent that "The Beautiful" is not just a straightforward vampire story. Instead, it's a murder mystery with a historical twist, and a dash of paranoia thrown in for good measure. The book is full of twists and turns, keeping the reader on the edge of their seat as they try to figure out whodunit. While this was definitely engaging at times, I couldn't help but feel that it was also a bit of a meander, with not a lot happening in certain sections.

One of the biggest issues I had with "The Beautiful" is its pacing. At times, it felt like there were long stretches where nothing much was happening, and I found myself getting bored. This was especially frustrating because I was invested in the story and wanted to see what would happen next. Unfortunately, this lack of momentum made it difficult for me to fully get into the book.

Another issue I had with "The Beautiful" is its treatment of vampires. While I understand that the author may have been trying to subvert expectations by not making vampires the main focus of the story, I still couldn't help but feel a bit let down. The lack of vampire action was a major selling point for me going into this book, and it didn't deliver on that promise.

That being said, I do want to note that the author has confirmed that "The Beautiful" is part of a four-book series, and that there will be more vampires in future books. This does make sense, given the marketing campaign behind the book, but unfortunately, it wasn't enough to win me over. If you're interested in reading "The Beautiful", just know that it's not going to deliver on its vampire promises.

One positive aspect of "The Beautiful" is its ending, which was phenomenal. The author did a great job of tying up loose ends and setting the stage for the rest of the series. I'm definitely excited to see where this series goes from here, and I'm hopeful that future books will deliver on their promise of more vampires.

If you're looking to read "The Beautiful", be aware that it's not going to be a fast-paced, action-packed book with vampire after vampire popping up left and right. Instead, it's a slow-burning mystery that requires patience and attention from the reader. While this was definitely engaging at times, I couldn't help but feel that it was also a bit of a slog.

Overall, I give "The Beautiful" 4 out of 5 stars. While it didn't live up to my expectations in terms of vampire action, it was still an enjoyable read with some great twists and turns. If you're a fan of murder mysteries or are just looking for a slow-burning story, then "The Beautiful" might be worth checking out.

I'm definitely going to continue on with this series, not just because I love vampires, but also because I'm excited to see where the author takes it from here. The ending was phenomenal, and I have no doubt that future books will deliver on their promise of more paranormal action. So if you're looking for a new series to get into, then "The Beautiful" might be worth checking out.

As I look back on my experience with "The Beautiful", I'm reminded that sometimes books don't live up to our expectations. While this book didn't have the vampire action I was promised, it still had some great twists and turns that kept me engaged. If you're a fan of murder mysteries or slow-burning stories, then "The Beautiful" might be worth checking out.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on "The Beautiful". Did you enjoy it? Did you think it lived up to the vampire hype? Let's discuss in the comments below!

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhello everyone today I am here to talk all about the beautiful by Renee ah da so this book came up this month I forget the actual date so please forgive me but it should be out so you can get it I actually have the Ark so please forgive me on that front but I thought I would film a single video review on it because it's been talked about a lot it's been hiked it's one of my most if not my most most anticipated read of 2019 if I'm honest because let's just throw the keyword for this whole video up there vampires so I think the beautiful has been getting a ton of buzz because Renee Atiyah is a great author but also because vampires are coming back in why fiction and I for one am here for it I was a fan of Twilight Saga when I read it when I was the ripe age of 14 when I was coming out I will say I read it before it got big I couldn't I can say that was full affirmation on and I interviewed that fact Buffy because I found vampire I found my vampire loves do Buffy I'll always always credit Buffy with that but I love the empire's a lot of us do vampires you're just the creatures of the night that are you know enthralling and mysterious and all that stuff and I love a good vampire book so when I heard about this book and that its main premise was vampires like I was hooked from like that alone that one word so we're here to talk about today what the book is about what I thought about it and we're gonna talk about the vampire thing because that I think is the main pool for this whole book the marketing everybody talks about it and vampire is to get thrown around a rock and the word vampire is getting thrown around a lot at this book so I'm gonna say is there enough vampires those are not enough vampires we're gonna talk all about it so let's get into it so this book is told in the past told in 1872 in New Orleans we have a character Selene who has lived in Paris all her life but some mysterious you know act has happened her life that is having her relocate to New Orleans and she's going pretty much to the church like a nunnery if you will and she's with a whole bunch of other girls that are also living there and they have to have jobs so they're also you know trying to find a marriage to you know get out of a nunnery so they can live their lives so Selene has moved to New Orleans for some mysterious reason that we don't know about that we will figure out throughout the entirety of the book you also have this big mystery that provides this whole plot we have people that end up dead and they end up dead and not you know the most human ways there are bites on them they just die kind of made me of a supernatural a paranormal death so Selene is caught right in the middle of these murders she has people around her let her die she also gets introduced this court of lions she meets a friend and they're kind of like the mysterious group at night and they kind of have you know they kind of have bad things wherever they go happen to them in the court of lions or the court of lions she needs Sebastian it's a very mysterious and dark character that we don't know much about he seems like not a great guy but of course Selene can't help but having feelings for him so basically this whole book I will tell you is about this these murders that are happening in New Orleans in 1872 in Selena's throw us right in the middle of it and something is after her and she can't quite figure out what it is you're also trying to figure out why she moved to New Orleans and what the mystery that happened to her in Paris overall my Randy for this book is a four out of five if I'm honest with you I would love to give it a five out of five but it just wasn't there for me and we'll talk about why there are a lot of good things about this book and there are some not so good things about this book so we're gonna talk about the good things I liked about this book number one the mystery aspect I really enjoyed the mystery aspect of it I didn't know it was gonna play as big of a part as it did in the book I was really intrigued by figuring out who exactly was killing all these girls and why and why Selene was kind of at the target of the all like saying it was trying to you know locate her and figure it out things like that and Selene was thrust into it I did really enjoy them I did really enjoy the mystery aspect of it number two Selene I did like Selene there was some times I was um put off by her but overall she was a very brash very bold character for 1872 especially like as a woman I think back then was very hard to be a woman it is any day honestly but back then you know you had to wear these certain things with these corset you had to like go out throughout this proper life like you had to do the right thing and Marian Dutta that's a thought and Selene you know didn't want to do that she wanted to do what she want to do she wouldn't had an adventure she wanted to have fun and I did really enjoy Selene because she she would endure some she did it she was like I'm gonna do this that's it so yeah I like that three the court of Lyons I was very intrigued by them like this whole place like this restaurant thing went what they had this upstairs where was like a parlour of like gambling and things like that and there's a snake that would be loose it was very intriguing to me the court of Lions and how all these people you don't really know them at all but it was very very intriguing I did really enjoy that for the romance I was a fan of romance I am a huge fan of hate to love romance in fact I would say that is my favorite romance trope I just I literally can't get enough of it so with Selina Sebastian you kind of had a very slow burn as soon as they met each other they hated each other but then it developed into something but I would say it was slow burnish but also kind of insta lovey I know that's very contradicting to say because I felt like they had the slow burn of becoming friends but then when they became friends it was like BAM I like you you like me that's it let's talk about this and I was like that came on him out of nowhere but nevertheless my hate to love romance trope art just freaking adored it so I enjoyed it I loved Sebastian of the character he was everything I wanted in a very mysterious and dark and brooding main character that I just loved honestly so I did enjoy that let's talk about some of the cons number one the historical element this is me personally I do not do well with historical books that's just me if it's in like the past 50 to 60 years I'm pretty good with that but anything more than that I don't do well I kind of just horrible it's so I did not and I did enjoy like the writing factor which is another pro honestly as the writing was very beautiful very descriptive but there was a lot of overdrawn details let me just get back to my point not veer off but anyway the historical factor I don't do well is because I can't connect it I feel like I can't see what's actually happening when I read I try to picture things probably as most of us do couldn't really do that because I couldn't relate to any of the characters what they were going through anything like that because it was in the past but again that's just me I kind of wished that it was told a little bit more modern but not super modern if that makes any sense at all it probably doesn't but I just don't enjoy the historical factor that's just me honestly and people love historical book so you may love it cuz it is historical that's just my opinion number two the writing the writing is a pro and a con in my opinion like I said Rene ITA has some beautiful writing very descriptive like you can visualize things like when she was in New Orleans that she was talking about the food and talking about the parade like I could see that I was there but it also was a little bit too descriptive it was very drawn-out in my opinion like I do think this book is a little bit lengthy it is at least my art copy I don't know the finished copy it is around 200 it is around four hundred and thirty pages I personally think it could have been three hundred and fifty but that is honestly just my opinion but the writing was good I just felt like it was drugged out too much like there was a lot of times in this book that was kind of a meander a little bit that not a lot happened and I was getting bored unfortunately number three the vampire action we're gonna talk about it let's talk about the vampire self there has been a lot of debate about this book of does it have enough vampires is there not to have enough vampires is it being markers vampires when it's really not vampires vampire vampire vampire like what's the deal with this book my opinion is didn't have enough vampires for me personally no I've since learned since finishing this book that this book is going to be a four book series I've heard from one of my subscribers one of you guys tell me that the author wants it to be drawn out so it wants to be kind of elongated so that does make sense the whole thing with me they're marketing this as vampires everyone's been saying vampires vampires vampires and I don't feel like it delivers fully up front on that in my honest opinion it doesn't fully live up to that what's the promise of like vampires galore you do get a hint of them in the end that's not schooling it for you because everyone that knows this book it knows it's about that oh you do get a hint to them at the end in the end it really explodes with it and I could see where the series is gonna go from here how it's gonna be really a focal point so that is good so it's kind of a good and bad thing about it so I would say if you're interested in the beautiful and you really want to read it because of the main allure of vampires just know this is going to be a four book series so you're not gonna get much vampire action in the first book the first book mainly honestly is kind of a murder mystery whodunit book with a historic moment and a dash of paranoia a little bit by the end it's fully kind of explained and it kind of is they're right in your face and you're like oh I can see where this is going so it is like a good and bad factor I hoping there's more paranormal aspects in the future books because obviously it's gonna have to be I think with the ending of that book which I'm not saying anything I'm just saying that definitely going to be more vampires in the next books I am sure of it so I am hopeful with it bottom line is yes and no this lives up to the vampire thing just know there's not a ton in the first book that you're gonna have to wait a little bit into the series because this is going to be a slow burn with a vampires type of book in this series now what I keep reading this series yes because I am invested in it I thought the ending was great and I'm very very interested to see how it's gonna go on because I thought the ending was phenomenal but I am hoping they're a little bit shorter and I am worried about the second book syndrome when it comes to series because I tend to like the second book the least and a lot of series so I'm hoping that it really is explosive with the ending of the first book I think it's gonna have to be and I am hopeful that there's going to be a lot more vampire action a lot more you know talks about other creatures as well so I am excited for that so I am hopeful with this series just know if you're going into this book don't expect every other page to be oh there was a mysterious figure that have things and things like that there's not gonna be that you know it's very much kind of elusive and you kind of have to put two and two together and out there in the forefront so overall I give this book a 4 out of 5 I did really enjoy it the historical factor wasn't it for me I did think I needed more vampires with just because how much they from promoting it as vampires honestly I did enjoy this book and I'll definitely be continuing on with this series for sure because I love vampires I think this series is gonna be amazing especially with how the first book ended so I love to hear your thoughts on the beautiful did you enjoy it did you not did you think it lived up to the vampire hype with all the vampire marketing it's had is that a real thing vampire marketing probably not loved hear your opinions and thoughts down below let's talk all about it because I'm interested to see what people think a very mixed book on Goodreads either people really enjoy it or people don't I'm kind of in the middle where I enjoy it but I do think that it could be a little bit better but that's just my opinion I would love to hear your thoughts like I said down below thank you so much for watching and I will see you in my next video byehello everyone today I am here to talk all about the beautiful by Renee ah da so this book came up this month I forget
