Welcome to My Q by 9 Video: A Cautionary Tale of Thermal Modding
As I sit here, trying to process what just happened, I'm reminded that even the most well-intentioned modifications can go terribly wrong. In this video, I'll be sharing my experience with a simple thermal mod for my Q by 9 tablet, which has resulted in a significant temperature improvement of approximately 23 degrees Celsius. But before we dive into the details, let me warn you: if you're not experienced in modifying electronics, it's best to leave this alone.
The Mod Itself
My mod consists of a small piece of copper, measuring 20mm x 20mm in size, with a width of only 1mm. This thin strip of copper was attached to the tablet using thermal adhesive, ensuring it wouldn't move around while still providing adequate contact with the screen and backing plate. I also replaced the original thermal pad on the back with a slightly thicker B-grade thermal pad, which should provide better heat dissipation.
The Process
I started by accessing the EP ROM, as I needed to flash a new BIOS onto my tablet to fix a micro SD card issue. Unfortunately, I underestimated the complexity of the process, and things quickly took a turn for the worse. The Flash update menu didn't have a secondary option, which led me to believe that there was supposed to be one. Big mistake.
As soon as I entered the Flash mode, my tablet's operating system crashed, and it became unresponsive. Despite my attempts to recover from the failure, the damage was done, and my tablet is now dead. The experience has left me feeling frustrated and annoyed, but also grateful for the opportunity to share this cautionary tale with you.
Temperature Improvements
Despite the setbacks, I'm pleased to report that the thermal mod has had a significant impact on my tablet's temperature. With the new mod in place, my device is now able to maintain a maximum temperature of around 67 degrees Celsius, which is a considerable improvement from the original reading of 88 degrees.
The Benefits
While the experience was far from pleasant, I believe that the benefits of thermal modding outweigh the risks. By improving heat dissipation, we can help extend the lifespan of our devices and prevent overheating-related issues. If you're considering attempting this mod yourself, be sure to take the necessary precautions and research thoroughly before proceeding.
Conclusion
As I conclude this video, I want to emphasize the importance of caution when modifying electronics. While the results may seem rewarding, the risks are very real. I hope that by sharing my experience, I can help others avoid similar pitfalls and ensure a safer, more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Thank you for watching, and I'll see you in the next video.
"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enhi CH and welcome to my Q by9 video on my minor theral thermal mod here that will actually improve temperatures by approximately 23° which is massive and it's a very basic mod very simple nothing special doesn't look pretty at all as you can see I've pulled this Hitting off it would have stayed on there but I've pulled it off because I needed access to the EP ROM um I was trying to flash a bios to it which I can't I have bricked this tablet because I went into one of the menus in the Bios that said Flash update now I expected there to be a secondary menu in there and it just went ahead and completely wiped my bias so don't mess with the bias anyway so what my mod consists of is a a copper shim so a small piece of copper now the dimensions of this that I used is 20 mm by 20 mm now I used a a thermal adhesive nothing flash pasted it on this side didn't want it to move around and I used another bit of a thermal paste there you can see just a cheap thermal paste this time around on the top there um I went a little bit overboard with the paste as you can see I just put like a a rice size piece of thermal paste on the the dye there but um as you can see it was too much it didn't spill out into any of the surrounding um circuitry around their components and things which is good but it was too much anyway this works just fine so using that okay the the actual um uh diameter sorry not the diameter the width of it is only 1 mm so it's 1 mm thick Sorry by 20 mm by 20 mm is the dimensions of it so that will fit on there perfectly fine and actually doesn't cause any pressure on the screen and the backing plate I changed the original thermal pad on the back you could probably actually just leave that but I used a um 1 mm thick thermal pad down on the back this is a slightly B thermal pad than the stock one that they used now you could probably actually put a huge one over the top here you could probably make a huge theral pad like that to give more contact to the back but I can't show you proof now of the temperature improvements that it did give me um but it wasn't bad at all it it definitely improved maximum temp temperatures we're 88 degrees with this mod I saw 87 maximum so or 86 I think it was sorry 607 what am I saying I'm I'm very tired at the moment um 66 to 67° was the maximum temperature instead of about 88 so that's about a 20 looking at 22 21 degree Improvement just from this tiny little mod here so something to think about but unfortunately my unit is dead I am highly pissed off at my own stupidity of going into that menu but also annoyed that there wasn't a secondary menu there's no fail saves it just went to flash what I was trying to do was update the BIOS to fix the micro SD card issue uh cuz I can't use any of my 64 G micro SD cards so I found a bios on the cube forums that was newer than my current one and I had loaded that onto a flash drive that I had formatted fat 32 that I had right in the USB 3 Port there um and I assumed that Flash menu might have already had a flashing system built into them some of them do but anyway it just wiped the virus it killed my tablet and learn from my super expensive mistake that don't go there but um the thermal mod does work well so yeah think about doing that but don't open the tablet if you don't have any experience doing this don't go there and please uh this is on you okay if something goes wrong I'm not responsible for the thank you for watching this video sorry I rambled on a little bit there I'm just tired and very annoyed at uh bricking this too thank you for watching see you back in the Channel with more up and coming on other tablets but not this Q by9 cuz this one is deadhi CH and welcome to my Q by9 video on my minor
