Changing Headlights on a Chevy Trailblazer: A Step-by-Step Guide
Those old clips and they just pop right out, so we're going to work on the passenger side headlight first. We're going to remove completely so that we can get access to the bulbs. There's two clips there, one clip that's right here and then there's one clip right in there. All you have to do is take your flathead screwdriver or crowbar whatever you're using and pop it straight up just like that. We'll do the same thing right here with a flat screwdriver straight up there. You go, and when you do that, the headlight will come right out.
So now, let's angle this side out, so we get access to the wires at the bottom. And we're going to unclip the wires at the bottom. You can see these wires right here holding the light in place. Just take your flat screwdriver go underneath that and pry it out, and that will unclip now. As we try to remove the headlight out, you can see that this right over here is still in place. Now, you can either take it off or you could just push this clip here which holds the wiring harness. You push that with the flat screwdriver and pop that right out.
Now, this will swivel open a lot more, and you have your access to your two light bulbs. These headlights are really dirty from all the salt on the road, but that's your low beam and that's your high beam. So, your low beam is right here, and your high beams are right there. These covers they just pop right off, and you get access to a light bulb in here.
So, this light bulb has a clip on it. You just lift up with your finger and push out like that. And then the light bulb itself will turn counterclockwise, and that'll come out. You can see this one's toasted. You never want to touch this glass with your skin because then you'll get your oils on it, and it'll cause premature wear on the light bulbs, and they don't last as long. I'm going to go get gloves on. So, with gloves on, you still don't want to touch the glass part of the headlight.
You simply fit it in and once it clicks in like that, you turn it clockwise, and it clicks. And then you put your electrical connection on, and you push that in so it snaps. Once that snaps in, you're done. Now, always replace in pairs, especially since you have the grill off already. So, remember we have this clip down here that we want to connect and we have this up here that we want to snap back in.
We just use this guide on here to click into here but before we do that, slip your hand under here and connect this clip right here. Make sure you push it all the way in so that it clicks. We'll get our clip in here set the white wiring harness is clipped to the frame again good. You can see that's in there good. Press down a clip that you pushed up before now, that side's locked in, and we'll do the same for this side good now.
For the other headlight, we'll do the same thing. Lift that clip up and lift up this clip we're going to push this wiring harness clip through just like that again at the bottom of the headlight here got this wiring harness here pop the clip up and just push it out and that'll give you plenty of room remember that's the high beam that's the low beam so we'll take take our low beam off.
Since there's less clearance here, we're actually going to turn this pull the headlight out. This one is still good, so we're going to keep it as a backup inside the car. Make sure you pull the clip off grab our new headlight remove it without touching the glass take our electrical connector snap it right in after you snap it in push the bow bin make sure it fits in like that and turn it make sure you tuck the wires away.
Take our cap put it back on now remember we have this clip down here plug that in now remember we have these clips here before we put everything back together. We're going to go test out the headlights look at that good they work now. We're simply going to take our grill make sure the top is facing up align the clips and just push, and we are done.
