Broke The Sequential In The Mr2...

The Struggle is Real: A Transmission Breakdown in Our Trusty MR2

We're facing a bit of a setback with our beloved MR2, as we've encountered a transmission breakdown that's left us feeling defeated. The cost of repairs is estimated to be around $800-$1000, which isn't exactly what we wanted to hear when it comes to fixing our car. However, we're choosing to view this as an opportunity to learn and grow, rather than getting discouraged.

As we began to investigate the issue, we discovered that each gear was costing a couple of hundred dollars, which added up quickly. The total cost for replacement parts was starting to look daunting, but we were determined to get our car back on the road. We started by taking a closer look at the transmission, and what we found wasn't ideal. It seemed that one of the gears had broken off, causing damage to other components.

We pulled out all the stops to assess the situation, double-checking each gear to ensure they were in good condition. The teeth looked decent, but it was clear that something had gone wrong. We discovered that the fourth gear had been damaged, with a tooth breaking off and leaving the transmission feeling unbalanced. It was clear that we needed to replace this component, along with a few others, to get our car running smoothly again.

One of the challenges we faced was identifying the cause of the breakage. Was it a power-related issue, or something else entirely? We couldn't shake the feeling that the engine had been put under too much stress during the shift, causing the gears to fail. The thought of not being able to rely on our car's transmission was unsettling, but we knew we had to stay focused.

To help diagnose the problem, we sent pictures of the damaged components to Matt, who would be trying to track down replacement parts for us. We also shared photos of other gear dogs and parts that seemed in good condition, hoping that this would give him a better idea of what was needed. The transmission's slider and selector had also been affected, with some unusual coloring visible on the latter.

As we waited for Matt to get back to us with an update, we couldn't help but feel a sense of dread. We knew that our car's transmission was critical to its performance, and the thought of not being able to participate in Rocky Mountain Race Week – where we'd signed up to compete – was a harsh reality check.

Rocky Mountain Race Week is just around the corner, and we're determined to be ready for it. We want to bring our MR2 back to life, and make sure everything is 100% on the car before we head out to Colorado. With the help of Matt, we're hopeful that we can find the necessary parts and get our car running smoothly again.

For now, though, it's hard not to feel a little down about the situation. The transmission breakdown has left us feeling defeated, like our trusty MR2 has let us down. It's a tough pill to swallow, but we're choosing to focus on the positive aspects – learning and growing from this experience, and coming out stronger on the other side.

As we wait for Matt's update, we can't help but wonder what went wrong in the first place. Was it something we did? Did our car just have a moment of weakness? The answers will have to wait, but one thing is certain – we're not going to let this transmission breakdown get us down. We'll keep working hard, and come out on top once again.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoh yeah something's hurt guys dang it that one felt good too man what is up guys we are back at the shop got the mr2 on the lift if you guys saw the last video we broke the transmission on the last pass but she was ripping all day when a-91 we were so close to getting that eight second pass but it just didn't happen and unfortunately we did break her in the process so today she's going under the knife we're getting ready to pull the transmission out of this thing I was gonna drop the engine and transmission altogether but I figured it would just be a lot quicker just to try to get the transmission out of there I have pulled the out of this thing once before while leaving the engine inside so we're just gonna try to do that I already went ahead and got the rear wheels and tires pulled off got the engine cover pulled off just seen you get the access and stuff pulled out of this thing and start on bolting the and get her dropped out of there and we will take a look at the insides of the transmission once we get the case split apart on it and see what the damage is so I'm really hoping it's nothing too major it definitely sounded pretty rough but this is the quays sequential transmission so depending on how bad it is it might take some time to get this thing fixed because we're gonna have to order some special parts and stuff and they're not gonna be cheap but we don't know what the damage is and what we need to fix it until we get this thing pulled out so if we're gonna go ahead and get this transmission dropped out of this thing and see what we need to do I'm gonna came yep ready for it mm-hmm and drop it right on your stomach he's coming out are we good yeah you feel safe under that oh yeah all right feel like you're at home right now I'd be paranoid being under that wall it's coming down changed is it a boy or girl boy hey you want to lift up well the sea freakin left of the car yeah well Kyle you got to watch the motor though you two get out yeah yeah we left her a month and you got a new style where you got the hole in the jeans yeah that's when you used to work for Abercrombie & Fitch free ripped jeans daughter I'll bump it up just a hair little more yeah she is time to tear it down and see what happens to it you look excited let's try it out to get the Cletus shirt all dirty I like this one good Bannister I brought the impact I brought a 3/8 ratchet impact with no battery with no charger you're still okay oh is this like that from heat or that was like that huh that is kind of did that seize up now kill Swiss hmm there's oil on everything so why is it that color though I remember what all they might have might have got all hot when it was if something is broken underneath in there maybe it put a lot of pressure on it you know yeah color it up good he's bearing popped out of the top - I don't see any huge chunks missing yeah I can see all the gears everything looks horrible yeah it doesn't look catastrophic at least hold your thought that huge thing we torqued oh yeah but I can get these off at the impact you tell me that when we put it back on when we put it back together we got a retort yeah but Oh loose loose that's probably what did it it's not right here's loose that's supposed to we torqued all this down hmm but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to like hammer with a screwdriver to walk Oh mm-hmm do that nut is just loosely that was supposed to go to like 180 foot-pounds it's probably why everything's not lining up how it's supposed to be that's no booby definitely we torqued it it is good to us actually oh look at that it broke forth dang oh it chunked it I don't know this one I feel like it didn't do that from the power though like did this crazy only like did it right there and then keep going around it's probably it probably like locked up at some point and then probably loosen that nut that was losing weight and broke that off oh oh yeah Ted for the selector yeah it broke the little bump of it off hmm actually that mm-hmm who knows I mean good news is it doesn't look too or I think this this dog is done - yeah down there yeah dang well fourth gear that kind of sucks he's going into fourth not loaded fourth yeah just broke fourth dude mm-hmm on both sides it's gonna need both of these replaced and this dog gear right here too so that guy's torn up right there like at the edges mm-hmm that's what happened to that mark two training boys get some gears on the way for so I'm not sure why that happened that top nut was loose as well that could have happened because all this might have locked up and then that locking up could have made it come with so I know we tighten it it's all on video we got it tight as hell and torque it to spec this could have also been an issue with the detent as well because the detail was coming loose and without that detent it's not really holding the shift' barrel exactly where it needs to be at all time so if this had some slop in it it could cause the dogs to just smack on each other really hard and not engage properly so dogs yeah let the dogs out and that was fourth gear too so I don't think like the power it's making should've been an issue I think you know something to do with the mischief tissue because it always had that issue going into fourth a long time ago - there's always getting gear and look at which one is all worn out and destroyed now it's fourth year so you know I could put something together wrong this was the first one we ever tried to put together I wanted to learn myself how to do this thing and the only way you're gonna learn is to do it yourself it's kind of learn as you go but we're learning breaking stuff fixing it we'll get her put back together I'll have to hit up Matt and see if we can get some new gears ordered that sucks I was just talked to Matt on the phone he said each gears good couple hundred bucks so we're probably we're probably close to 800 like a thousand dollars to fix this thing which does kind of suck but I mean it's not too bad even on wayward yeah I could have taken out all of it you know these little pieces cycle through all the other teeth look good all these dogs look like they're in good shape the teeth look good I'm probably gonna pull it all apart to double-check everything mm-hmm whoa it up fourth gear it ate it that's where didn't didn't go all the way around though I felt it then I pushed in the clutch right away and I think it just locked it up yeah and just didn't keep going all the way around yeah it took out just the teeth right there on this side of it and then one tooth there and one tooth there was kind of a weird break like yeah weird kind of spun around and broke again but everything else looks to be in pretty good shape yeah so I think we just need these four components we need a new one of these you know these this guy because look those look good on that side you know you bad right then those Reds really chewed up on the edges and I told you that fourth gear clunked hard yeah yeah right before that passing we've always had fourth to your shift issues so well there we go knows maybe we maybe we beat up a dog right in the beginning because I did something wrong but you know we're learning and then this needs replace because that broke off oh you know that's what rides in the barrel so I'm really not sure that I'm not sure what exactly caused it I don't think it was a power thing you know I don't think the cars making too much power it let go during the shift so it had to be it could be the shift related it could be length the time on the cut there could be something to all that definitely I think maybe maybe the power came back like the engine came back on before I was fully engaged yeah and it could have broke it yeah that's crazy though dude well I just sent a whole bunch of pictures of the transmission to Matt he's gonna be trying to track down some parts to get this thing put back together he's gonna begin back to me tomorrow but just sent in pictures of like the dogs and the parts that broke he wanted to see what condition all this other stuff was in because you can see the edges of the dogs are starting to where it doesn't look like all this stuff's too bad though but I wanna send in pictures everything also this was pretty interesting that this slider and a selector kind of heated up like they did it got really hot because you can see all that coloring and I'm not sure if this was a result from that braking or something else was put together wrong and went into fifth gear just fine so I'm not sure why that colored up like that the dogs on it looking pretty good shape though so yeah that's something else I sent them a picture of and then we're gonna need to replace this selector right here this Fork because that guy broke off the edge and yeah basically these four pieces of the key ingredients to getting this thing back up and going but we might also get some other gears on the way just to kind of refresh it if these are a little worn out you know since we have it apart we might as well put some new parts in this thing if we can if it doesn't cost too much extra to do just to make sure she's back up and ready to go but that's where we're at on the transmission and the mr2 so does it suck that the sequential had a failure on us but you know we live and learn and we're gonna get this thing back together as soon as we can get it back in the car and go for that eight because we do also need to get this thing together because I signed this thing up for Rocky Mountain Race week that is right we are doing our first race week hopefully this year and I want to bring the mr2 so we need to make sure everything is 100% on this thing and ready to go and that was another reason why we brought it to the track yesterday I want to make sure that it was running good up in Colorado and stuff and it was obviously running really good and I think for Race Week I actually want to turn it down a little bit you know maybe dollar and and like the mid-90s I don't need to be shooting for an eighth every pass and then it would also help keep stuff together but yeah that's we're right on the mr2 boys so we'll get some stuff on the way and she should be ready to go hopefully soon well dang that's what your face looks like sad broken Santa face here these gears are broken just like my heart just shattered into pieces\n"
