The Wheels on the Bus

The First Footage Released: Matt's Towing and Recovery's Early Years

We're about to take you on a journey through the early days of Matt's Towing and Recovery, a company that has been serving the community for years. The first footage we ever shot was from way back in March 2019, and it's a real blast from the past. As we look at this old footage, we can see the beginnings of what would become a successful towing and recovery business.

Recently, we received a call about a tour bus that got stuck in a field during the Zion Half Marathon. The staging area where people were parking had turned into a muddy mess due to all the rain lately. Our team was dispatched to assist the stranded vehicle, which belonged to "Tour Bus Humping Virgin." When we arrived on the scene, we tried several times with pickups, but nothing seemed to work. We hooked onto the bus and pulled it out of the mud, leaving it on dry ground.

As we continued our efforts to get the bus unstuck, our team leader went out to the pavement to try and guide the vehicle out. However, for some reason, the driver didn't understand what "straight" meant or how to navigate the situation properly. We ended up hitting the brakes and turning the wheel, which only made things worse. The bus became stuck even further in the ditch, and we had to regroup and come up with a new plan.

We turned around and started pulling the bus forwards, using our equipment to guide it out of the ditch. However, every time we'd start pulling, the wheels would turn in the opposite direction, sending us back into the mud. We repeated this process several times, trying to figure out how to get the bus unstuck. At one point, I asked the driver if we could get one of our team members to drive the bus, but he explained that he thought we'd never ask.

Finally, after all those attempts, one of our team members got behind the wheel and successfully pulled the bus out onto the pavement. We were relieved that the job was finally done, and we had completed it with the equipment we had on hand. As a bonus, we got to experience the new 35-inch Patagonia tire, which we'll be testing out in our next adventure.

Our next stop was the Sand Hollow off-road community, where we received another call about a problem with one of the community's assets – a razor that had been rolled onto the trailer. We headed out to the sand dunes on the backside of the area, determined to pick up the razor and complete our mission. However, as it gets dark, we realize that we can't see very well due to poor lighting conditions.

We're dropping off this footage here at Sand Hollow off-road community.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enso what I'm doing here is I'm actually releasing the first footage we ever shot for Matt's towing and recovery so this is really old footage from way back in March of 2019 and then the second part of it is more recent within the last week so that's why maybe the timeline doesn't make sense maybe you don't care but here it is so we just got a call that a tour bus is stuck in a field they're having the zion half marathon today and one of the staging areas where people are parking apparently the we've had a lot of rain lately anyway this tour bus pulled out into this field that was for parking and it it can't move now yes I got dispatched on a tour bus humping virgin and I get up there and they had several attempts with pickups and not trying to get it pulled out and it just wasn't working for him so we hooked on to it pulled him out to where he was out of the mud and figured that he could um just follow me right on out on the tracks that he'd made going in on what's your plan and so I free will went out to the pavement tried talking the guy into keeping his wheels straight so that he could follow me out and for some reason he didn't understand what straight was or not to hit the brakes every time we give it a tug but anyway ended up hitting the brakes and turning the wheel and we got him stuck up in the ditch even further yeah I didn't notice I didn't notice he was steering until it was too late so then we had to regroup and try to figure out how to pull him out because it everything we had wasn't enough to get him out of the ditch going backwards so we turned around and started pulling him forwards at his wheel set right where they needed to be to come out and every time we'd start pulling the guide crank the wheels the opposite direction like you wanted to go back in the mud Oh after several attempts again of trying to get it out I asked him if we could um get one of us to drive the bus and he explained at that point that he thought we'd never ask so one of us got in there and finally pulled the bus out onto the pavement and sent him on his way but so that job is done and we did it with the equipment that we had we're heading out to the sand dunes out on the backside to pick up a razor that has been rolled on the trailer and heading out there to get it this is the first job that I'm going to be doing with the new 35 inch Patagonia so we'll see how it goes looks like we found a razor there I don't know how wounded it is but looks like it's pretty wounded 30 okay hey thank you yeah no problem their girls are light so it got dark on us so we couldn't get just budget uh I'm so sorry anyway it got darker on this so the footage isn't very good so we're dropping off here Sand Hollow off-road her communities
