Why wireless charging is total TRASH! 🗑️

The Truth About Wireless Charging: A Mixed Bag

Hey Internet, so I thought I'd have a brief chat about wireless charging and spoiler alert, it's trash. Got it? Trash. Now, don't get me wrong, I appreciate the ingenuity that goes into developing new technologies, but with wireless charging, it seems like we're taking two steps forward, one step back.

The potential for this tech is very promising, but the way it's applied is quite limited. What it does is take a relatively simple process of taking electricity and transferring it from a power source to your phone and adds a point of failure to it. Still, it's common to see tech reviewers touting the lack of traditional charging ports as a selling point for phones that don't have them.

So, let's put this in an analogy. Your phone is like a car, the charging port is like the road to a destination, and wireless charging is some kind of convoluted shortcut that doesn't get you to your destination any quicker. With the period of time we're living in right now, it seems that wireless charging's shortcomings have been made even more apparent when using your phone at home.

For example, if you're on your phone all day, you'll find yourself needing to charge it more often because you're always on it. And using a wireless charger can make things a lot more awkward, especially if you're not careful with the placement of your device. However, I hear people say that wireless charging means you don't have to fumble around in the dark to charge your phone. But does it really?

With lightning on iOS phones and USB type-C on most newer Android phones, you get a reversible connector that makes aligning things easier than ever before. And now, with magnetic charging cables, you can simply pop your device onto the charger without worrying about misalignment issues like those pesky millimeters of separation.

But where's the convenience? We've all been there: we go to sleep and bless our phones to charge overnight, only to wake up in the morning and find that it hasn't charged at all, or because it was misaligned by a single millimeter. This is a known problem that even Apple tried to remedy with an extra layer of copper coils to expand the charging area.

Unfortunately, even that solution came with its own set of issues. So, not only is wireless charging less reliable than standard charging, but it's also half the speed compared to traditional fast charging methods, which can deliver up to three times more power than wireless charging. And then there's the issue of reverse wireless charging: who doesn't want to be able to power all their devices with their phone?

But what does this say about our obsession with wireless charging? Maybe it's just a phase, like when earbuds first went wireless and became truly wireless. We might see some innovation in wireless charging down the line, but for now, it feels like we're stuck in a holding pattern.

So, is wireless charging truly two steps forward but one step back? I don't know if that's just me being jaded from living through all this tech hype, or if there's actually something to say about how we've been expecting too much from wireless charging. What do you guys think? Let me know in the comments and go easy on me because it's my first video. Thanks for watching!
