MPS Meet & K24 DC5 Build Update Speed Science

A 2000-2010 Gen 2 Honda with a Carbon Fiber Hood and Air Suspension

The car in question is a 2000-2010 Gen 2 Honda, boasting an impressive array of modifications. The hood is made of carbon fiber, which is said to be the only one in the country. This modification not only gives the car a sleeker appearance but also provides additional structural integrity. In addition to the carbon fiber hood, the car is equipped with air suspension, another rare feature in this model year. This allows for a smooth ride and better handling on various road surfaces.

Engine Modifications

The engine of the car has undergone significant modifications. A high-pressure fuel pump has been installed, which should improve fuel efficiency and power output. Additionally, a larger intake manifold and throttle bodies have been fitted, providing a significant increase in airflow to the engine. These modifications are said to have resulted in an impressive 220 kilowatts (approximately 300 wheel horsepower) of power.

Access Port for Tuning

The car features an access port on the underside of the hood, which appears to be used solely for tuning purposes. This suggests that the owner has invested significant time and effort into fine-tuning the engine's performance. The fact that the air compressor is mounted at the bottom of the tank adds a touch of complexity to the setup.

The Car and its Owner

A group of around 150 cars, including this Honda, are on display in a cul-de-sac, with many owners present to showcase their vehicles. The car's owner is part of the MPS Club, a New Zealand-based organization that aims to promote Honda enthusiasts. The club is relatively new, having been formed about three years ago.

The Event

The event has drawn a significant number of attendees from Auckland and Hamilton, showcasing the diversity of interests within the MPS Club. A prize-giving ceremony for the Honda Cup was held earlier in the day, followed by an AGM meeting on Saturday. The car's owner is seen to be busy preparing for another event, which may involve dropping off parts to Call In Butler Motor.

Visit to Colin's Shop

The car's owner visits Colin's shop, where they meet with Colin and his team to discuss the status of the DC5 build. They soon realize that the project is almost complete, waiting only on the fitting of a new intake manifold. The owner brings along a silicon joiner for the intake, which proves to be a crucial component in securing the throttle bodies.

The Car's Progress

After meeting with Colin and his team, the car's owner takes it for a drive, navigating a challenging path that requires precise handling. They recall that a twin-plate clutch was installed, which may provide additional power output in the future. The owner expresses concern about the chatter from the twin plate, but acknowledges that it is a minor issue.

Dyno Tune Scheduled

The car's owner has booked an appointment with CDM Concept Dynamic Motor Works in Tauranga for a dyno tune on Friday. They are excited to see how much power the engine produces and plan to document the experience on video. With the help of tuning master Lin Chen, they hope to unlock the full potential of their Honda.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enwhat's up guys adam here at speed science i just left the shop on my way to hamilton which is about an hour and a half south of auckland where we're based to head to the country's largest meetup of best mps we call it here are master speed enthusiasts they're called club mps uh we're one of the major sponsors of the club we're on our way down there to check out the event uh have a chat with some of the guys down there we'll have a look at their cars give away some prizes and yeah we'll see what the new zealand master speak community has to offer hey guys we made it to the club in psb uh the first car that caught my eye was um ray's gen 2 here ray if you can just tell us a little bit about it the story behind it when you got it and what you've done to it all right cool sweet so um there's a 2000 2010 gen 2 and um it's got a carbon fiber hood i think it's the only one in the country and it's got air suspension on it as well i think it's the only one in the country as well put a bit a little bit more um modification in the engine on it yep high pressure fuel pump and um intake bigger intake top mount intercooler and um tuned by um parent as well okay so yeah apparently he's doing 220 kilowatts on it apparently it's about 300 wheel horsepower for the americans watching yeah it's got an access port on it but i'm not using it for um for tuning okay it's only for gauge okay so you use it for gauge it's got a 19 by eight and 19 by 9.5 effect 245 and um i've got a custom made here from the air compressor down the bottom the tank's not really working it's actually in the bottom and yeah that's pretty much it found some containers to climb up on so this meat is about 150 cars taking up the whole uh cul-de-sac here it's a sunday afternoon so none of these businesses are open around the corner pretty good turnout so this is a reasonable percentage of the mps club here in uh kind of the upper part of new zealand so a lot of members from auckland and hamilton pretty cool club they're reasonably new really in the grand scheme of things if you think of like honda's new zealand's honda club was started for about 20 years ago um this club was more about like three or four years ago uh nikita's put on a great event done a lot of organizing heaps of prizes obviously we've chucked in some stuff but um yeah there's been a great turnout obviously you can see got the sun out which is great it's actually the middle of winter here in new zealand it's about 18 degrees today so it's about 65 66 degrees i think so yeah i've been blessed with a great day my hey super busy weekend we had the honda cup prize giving an agm on saturday you've seen us at the mazda mps club event on sunday and today i've got a bunch of parts to drop off to call in a butler motor for a customer um build that he's working on um but he said that he had made some progress on the dc5 so we're gonna head that way now and have a look middle of winter here gray cold windy wet that's what our winters look like no snow uh not super cold but just this kind of miserable muck that you can't really do anything with anyway we're gonna head out there have a squish at what he's going on and with any luck he should be pretty close to finish made it to uh colin's shop he's just trying to grab the keys for the car turns out that it's almost done just waiting on fitting up the intake i was supposed to bring something i just realized i forgot uh silicon joiner with the new intake manifold um the throttle bodies in a different spot what in tarnation apparently these are impossible to undo how do you pop the bonnet go deep in this pretty much all sorted oh it's got an alarm nice one so uh ac is done yeah everything plumbed up casey loves that yesterday and you've taken it for a drive is that yeah the path is pretty good remember we put a twin plate in this just because that's all i had lying around so maybe future proofing for some other action later down the track maybe it's got the old uh got the twin plate chatter going on there so yeah i just need a joint now pretty much sorted so um i've actually got the car booked in for dyno tune this friday taking it down to cdm concept dynamic motor works in tauranga lin chen is the kind of honda tuna tuning master down there so we chuck it on a trailer just to be safe and whoop down there on friday obviously we'll we'll get all that on video and see if this thing makes some power there's the engine intake so just the angle of the throttle body is a little bit different you can see the uh you can see the factory one steered straight out from the engine the one we've got now is they can angle that way so just need to make an adjustment with a joiner and kill the little stuff so i'll get the jointer sorted when we pick up the car i think i'm going to grab it tomorrow from colin and um yeah drive it back hopefully it's all good sweet youwhat's up guys adam here at speed science i just
