The Honor View 20 Unboxing and Hands-On: A Break from CES 2019

As Michael Josh here at Gadget Matt, I'm excited to bring you our first unboxing of 2019, and what an exciting one it is! We're still taking a break from CES 2019 to take a closer look at this phone, the Honor View 20. Let's get right to it!

The Box: A Photo That Doesn't Quite Match

The box of the Honor View 20 looks quite sleek, with a photo of the phone up front that doesn't necessarily match the color of the phone. If you take a closer look at this photo, it says "We have the Phantom Red version," which is going to have a more limited release compared to the Blue one. Now, let's peel off the plastic and lift the lid off.

Lifting the Lid: A Hole Punch Selfie Camera

The Honor View 20 what sets the phone apart from most of its competition is this bit up here—the hole punch selfie camera. Because, quite frankly, the notch was so 2018. Turning it around, you'll see we do have the red variant as per usual. Let's set this aside for now and see what else is inside the box.

Inside the Box: More Surprises

Sim ejector tool, jelly case, supercharged USBC cable, and a supercharge wall adapter are just some of the surprises that come with the Honor View 20. Now it's time to peel this plastic off, and I must say, I really like the subtle V pattern that shows up when the light hits it. It looks quite unique, even though our video doesn't quite do it justice.

Peeling Off the Plastic: Setting Up the Phone for the First Time

Okay, let's peel this plastic off too and setup the phone for the first time. While we do role spec sheet but an import placements are like this microphone, USBC, and speaker grilles at the bottom, some sensors, another microphone, a headphone jack up top, power button, and volume rocker on the right, and dual nano SIM card tray on the left. The fingerprint sensor is also at the back.

The Headline Act: A 48-Megapixel Camera

The Honor View 20's headlined by the largest sensor ever seen on a smartphone camera—48 megapixels to be exact—a 3D sensing time-of-flight camera, and a notch that's list edge to edge, except for a small punch hole for that selfie camera. We've only used the phone for a few days but you know us here at Gadget much we love ourselves some value for money devices, and if you twenty is exactly that it's got top-of-the-line specs like premium flagship smartphones but retails for half the price.
