The journey to transforming our car into a high-performance vehicle was a long and winding road, filled with twists and turns that would test our patience and skill. We had always dreamed of taking on this project, but we knew it wouldn't be easy. The first step was to change the intake manifold, which we did by welding it properly and then filling in the holes with chemi-world. This may seem like a trivial task, but trust us, it's not as simple as it sounds.
As we continued on our journey, we encountered another obstacle: the factory diverter valve. We could have easily resorted to using superglue, but instead, we opted for high-performance future glue, which proved to be the right choice. Our wiring was another area that required attention, with several relays needing to be replaced and rewired. This wasn't a major issue, but it did require some careful work to get everything just right.
With our wiring sorted, we turned our attention to the ECU, which was the final piece of the puzzle. We installed a new one, carefully configuring it to optimize performance. The result was nothing short of amazing - the car was now capable of producing a whopping 405 psi, and our turbocharger was finally able to do its job. But we weren't out of the woods yet - there were still some quirks to iron out, including a weird "farting" noise that would occasionally occur.
Despite these challenges, we persevered, driven by our determination to create something truly special. And when it all came together, the result was nothing short of breathtaking. The car roared to life, its engine purring smoothly as we took it for a spin around the block. It was an exhilarating experience, and one that left us feeling proud and accomplished.
Looking back on our journey, it's clear that this project required more than just technical know-how - it required patience, perseverance, and a willingness to take risks. We were constantly pushing ourselves to try new things and solve unexpected problems, but the end result was well worth it. And as we stood there, grinning from ear to ear, we knew that all our hard work had paid off.
One of the most surprising aspects of this project was just how much potential our car had always held. We had always known it was a JDM gem, but even we were shocked at just how well it could perform with a little TLC. As for what's next, we're not entirely sure. We've been so focused on getting our car sorted out that we haven't really thought about it much beyond the finish line. um we need to be able to map it I need to be able to go fast and this car probably needs to go on a bit of a diet what do you mean I think the subs can go really racing ah but Eve I beat him with subs yeah yeah okay so maybe they stay unless I absolutely have to like Bill Gates and we can either a necessity so I just clarify one thing sorry just to be clear so basically you guys are going to change use one I'm going to use what we've got purely because it's it's an easy way of attacking it and getting it done yeah so we'll go through our diagrams mix and match what we need to to get lined up to get into the computer and then we'll program it from there we'll get it running and and this is this is the same engine as you what's in your car right now so we could even we can go get a USB stick steal the map off yours yeah pretty much put it on this and drive it around pretty much yeah yeah with minimal mods I would say that's cheating just sort of thing like guy and getting someone else's thing and sticking it on this thing that your car didn't had before I just like it here nobody's worried about the name no no what's like like expert suddenly can cheat no it's like you're like oh my another ECU we've seen recently I mean you see yeah not I mean it's design like it's just this square black box yet and when you when you're trying to build a card or a budget which the early days it's like just do the bare minimum to get it working we've neery to use you can reflash and buy anything look at that though mitsubishi refrigeration call so me and Dave made a little bit progress and we've got the the ECU plugs out so we've been the old ECU and these are the plugs that were left with these plugs no good noise we're going to turn all that into one of these but we're going to use all these original wires so basically we go through we pick it we find out what does walk by the color and some diagrams and you can look that kind of stuff up online and then you get that fin you go cool for example that's injector one ya figure out which one you want on this plug to be injector one which might be you know pin one chop it stick a pin on it jam it in here move on to the next wire so in that way it's really simple you literally just turning this plug into one of these plugs you put your ECU into it put a map on it and turn the key that's the plan did I say that right Dave that's pretty much is that we're doing yes is there any other weed stuff we have to do no we just got to follow the manuals indoor properly oh man all right I remember Marty when it used to be you and me remember now it's you and a F is Dave hey Dave yeah so to get this bit of trim off using a Torx bit you've got to remove these that have you got one there but so we can just see how long they are there's four of these and if you look really carefully on the end of it yeah it's got two little marks the same as this bad boy here you remove the four of those and then something else we haven't seen remove the buttons and then it should all lift out and we're doing that of course I can get some power from behind the this thing so we can run that UVC this is Matt this is such a cool way to do connector that's my connector it's got the numbers it's got the wire colors in that case it's like yellow and blue L stands for blue because B stands for black and all we need to know is what that Y accessible in the Saab which is awesome we can just pop them out and use them for whatever we want because you're not going to need you rear window D and it kind of looks like skids don't we just black one of those out so what I thought we'd do is we'd use this and hook it up to the the g-force to activate scramble boost yeah which is scramble boost is like your ultimate boost five thousand years yeah this is this is the JDM version of NOS okay so when you hit this you are going to smash that yeah okay good good and so can you tell me quickly just how scramble mode it works yeah so we have an exhilarating loom for the g-force yeah when it is activated it jumps into a whole new boost preset so you'll be driving around at low boost and getting walkable over by the Lancer really and when you hit that really bad yeah then that is going to become dust right I will jump into high boost setting yeah and it's got a lay rubber and just take off right now is the scramble setting something that you would use once you're already rolling as in like you you're pulling on in third gear you hit scramble and then off you go kind of like you would not as opposed to you know you're not taking off first gear holding it depends whether they want to fast to furious or right but yeah I mean there's a lot of different ways you could use it so you know you could hook up scramble to the throttle pedal for example so you can drive around and then it's just a position sensor that says once a year here so yes similar to nos again yeah or you know you put a button on the dashboard so you can hit that get high boot well it's gonna be a massive missile switch right yeah get the Missal switch but and in the g-force is a couple of ways you can use scramble you can have it this this is just an on-off switch so once you hit it it's on you can also use scramble with a timer all right you just had a momentary button like the horn you could hit that and set the g-force to hold scramble on for as long as that momentary yeah as long as it's on or for a set amount of time from 0 to 100 seconds yeah it's kind of like the push to pass set up where you hit the button and you get 10 seconds of high boost or you can have it as an on-off high and low that's awesome so this will now be known as our skids button that's the skids button here that's awesome sobs kids so this is gone mad we've got all the wires off our factory connectors that was easy now I put this old wideband in this is the same one that we used back in the day like a very first wideband video this is a very similar one this works with the hell tech as well so we're recycling some old bits to make that work and I'm just wiring that into the plug so he's got his own position on the plug and now we're doing Earth's and sensor grounds and stuff like that but really a couple of wires off having it kind of be ready to try out well add dates all over it staged such a legend how you feeling about it although pretty good just got another relay to wire in and then we can look for the thermo fan wire out in the engine bay so we're going to find that so we can get this baby cool on those hot summer days on getting a little bit emo then you can actually adjust that give it a tickle and make it happy yeah that's it so with the vending bias adjustment you just turn the ring that'll change how much air is vented to the research and the atmo so what we're going to do in this case we want to go full to chew on a stick I got to put that bugaloo in there and then we're gonna be able to change or just between yea Nightwish and and choo-choo also we can either gobble or we can splat yeah so food logo show we can have it at the turkey so I went normally that'd be plumbed back into the intake but and Dave made a little bit progress and we've got the the ECU plugs out so we've been the old ECU and these are the plugs that were left with these plugs no good noise we're going to turn all that into one of these but we're going to use all these original wires so basically we go through we pick it we find out what does walk by the color and some diagrams and you can look that kind of stuff up online and then you get that fin you go cool for example that's injector one ya figure out which one you want on this plug to be injector one which might be you know pin one chop it stick a pin on it jam it in here move on to the next wire so in that way it's really simple you literally just turning this plug into one of these plugs you put your ECU into it put a map on it and turn the key that's the plan did I say that right Dave that's pretty much is that we're doing yes is there any other weed stuff we have to do no we just got to follow the manuals indoor properly oh man all right I remember Marty when it used to be you and me remember now it's you and a F is Dave hey Dave yeah so to get this bit of trim off using a Torx bit you've got to remove these that have you got one there but so we can just see how long they are there's four of these and if you look really carefully on the end of it yeah it's got two little marks the same as this bad boy here you remove the four of those and then something else we haven't seen remove the buttons and then it should all lift out and we're doing that of course I can get some power from behind the this thing so we can run that UVC this cool switch and they're so accessible in the Saab which is awesome we can just pop them out and use them for whatever we want because you're not going to need you rear window D and it kind of looks like skids don't we just black one of those out so what I thought we'd do is we'd use this and hook it up to the the g-force to activate scramble boost yeah which is scramble boost is like your ultimate boost five thousand years yeah this is this is the JDM version of NOS okay so when you hit this you are going to smash that yeah okay good good and so can you tell me quickly just how scramble mode it works yeah so we have an exhilarating loom for the g-force yeah when it is activated it jumps into a whole new boost preset so you'll be driving around at low boost and getting walkable over by the Lancer really and when you hit that really bad yeah then that is going to become dust right I will jump into high boost setting yeah and it's got a lay rubber and just take off right now is the scramble setting something that you would use once you're already rolling as in like you you're pulling on in third gear you hit scramble and then off you go kind of like you would not as opposed to you know you're not taking off first gear holding it depends whether they want to fast to furious or right but yeah I mean there's a lot of different ways you could use it so you know you could hook up scramble to the throttle pedal for example so you can drive around and then it's just a position sensor that says once a year here so yes similar to nos again yeah or you know you put a button on the dashboard so you can hit that get high boot well it's gonna be a massive missile switch right yeah get the Missal switch but and in the g-force is a couple of ways you can use scramble you can have it this this is just an on-off switch so once you hit it it's on you can also use scramble with a timer all right you just had a momentary button like the horn you could hit that and set the g-force to hold scramble on for as long as that momentary yeah as long as it's on or for a set amount of time from 0 to 100 seconds yeah it's kind of like the push to pass set up where you hit the button and you get 10 seconds of high boost or you can have it as an on-off high and low that's awesome so this will now be known as our skids button that's the skids button here that's awesome sobs kids so this is gone mad we've got all the wires off our factory connectors that was easy now I put this old wideband in this is the same one that we used back in the day like a very first wideband video this is a very similar one this works with the hell tech as well so we're recycling some old bits to make that work and I'm just wiring that into the plug so he's got his own position on the plug and now we're doing Earth's and sensor grounds and stuff like that but really a couple of wires off having it kind of be ready to try out well add dates all over it staged such a legend how you feeling about it although pretty good just got another relay to wire in and then we can look for the thermo fan wire out in the engine bay so we're going to find that so we can get this so good from what I understand and certainly my use of these in the past and you know when I've had these on VW's and stuff like that is that there's bias between how much is vented versus how much is recirculated sorry car is getting upset or getting a little bit emo then you can actually adjust that give it a tickle and make it happy yeah that's it so with the vending bias adjustment you just turn the ring that'll change how much air is vented to the research and the atmo so what we're going to do in this case we want to go full to chew on a stick I got to put that bugaloo in there and
