The Art of Closet Organization: A Personalized Approach
As I embark on this journey of organizing my closet, I'm excited to share my personal approach to maximizing every inch of space. My goal is to create a functional and efficient system that makes it easy to find what I need, while also reducing stress and clutter.
My Journey Begins with Baskets
I started by selecting the perfect baskets to organize my clothes. I chose white baskets from Ikea, which were available for around $10 each. What I love about this basket system is its ability to sub-categorize clothing items. Instead of having a single bin for tops, I created separate bins for casual tops, nice tops, workout tops, and crop tops. This approach makes it easy to grab exactly what I need without having to sift through everything.
To label each bin, I used my trusty label maker. There's something satisfying about seeing the neatly labeled bins that help me quickly identify what's inside. The labels also make it easy for others (if they're helping with laundry) to understand where things are supposed to go.
Undergarments and Socks: A Separate System
For undergarments, I found an awesome organizer set from Amazon that consisted of four pieces, all for just $13. One section is dedicated to bras, which can be stacked neatly inside the bins. Another section has dividers that allow me to sort underwear into pairs, making it easy to grab a matching pair. The third section is perfect for socks, and I also use one of the organizers as a divider for sticky bras or scarves.
For my undergarments, I decided to create a three-drawer container from IKEA. I used this set to separate my nicer underwear (top drawer), casual/pregnancy underwear (middle drawer), and socks (bottom drawer). This setup makes it easy to find what I need without having to dig through everything.
Jewelry Organization
Next, I turned my attention to jewelry organization. I found a three-drawer set from IKEA that was perfect for sorting necklaces, earrings, rings, and watches. I placed the top two drawers on the middle shelf, where I can easily access them while getting dressed. The bottom drawer is used for rings and watches, and I also use one of the drawers as a separate container for my earrings.
Earring Tree
To keep my earrings organized, I created an earring tree using a string and some hooks. This keeps all my silver and gold earrings separated and makes it easy to see what I have. It's also a great way to display my favorite pieces.
Purse Organization
For purse organization, I used a coat rack in the corner of my closet. I placed it here because it helps keep bags and hats from getting wrinkled or creased. The coat rack is also super convenient for visually seeing what I have – I can just scan the rack to see what's available.
Purse Rack with Hooks
To add an extra layer of organization, I hung a purse rack from the ceiling using hooks. This keeps my purses and backpacks organized and makes it easy to find what I need. The hooks also help keep hats in place, keeping them looking their best.
The Final Touch: Shoes
For shoes, I used two different organizers: a boot rock organizer from Amazon and a simple shoe rack from IKEA. The boot rock organizer helps keep my boots looking their best, while the shoe rack provides a convenient way to store all my shoes.
Final Overlook
As I step back to admire my hard work, I can see that my closet is finally organized. Each section has its own unique system, making it easy to find what I need without having to dig through everything. The baskets and organizers have helped me sub-categorize items, reducing clutter and stress.
