The Nomad Base Station: A Sleek and Functional Wireless Charger

The Nomad base station is a sleek, modern-looking wireless charger that offers several surprises up its sleeve. The charger itself is made up of premium materials, including a padded leather surface for wirelessly charging devices. This soft touch but very sturdy plastic makes up the rest of the hub underneath that leather padding. One of the standout features of the Nomad base station is the three high-powered charging coils, which allow it to charge one or two phones wirelessly.

Personally, I really love the design and overall look and feel of this base station. The soft leather is a nice touch, and it helps ensure that one won't lay their phone down on a hard surface that might be susceptible to scratches when taking their device on or off the charger. However, it's not all perfect, as the slippery glass on the iPhone can cause vibrations from incoming calls or text messages to move the phone around slightly if placed on top without a case.

I've noticed this issue in practice, particularly when charging two devices at the same time, such as an iPhone 10s and Macs. One has to find the perfect spot for those coils to start charging the device, which can be a bit of a challenge. I'm not sure if it's just my unit or not, but placing two phones on top at the same time is not as easy as one might think, and it definitely takes some messing around.

Despite this issue, this charging station has been fantastic overall. The ambient light sensor on the front letting you know which device is being charged is a nice indicator that I've found useful, particularly at night when other wireless chargers might not provide sufficient lighting.
