Soybean sprouts bibimbap (kongnamulbap - 콩나물밥)
# How to Make Delicious Soybean Sprouts and Ground Beef Rice (K P)
Hello everyone! Today, we’re going to make **K P**. K stands for soybean sprouts, and P stands for rice. Koreans love steamed rice, and while we usually serve it with many side dishes, sometimes we make just rice with certain ingredients. Today, I’m going to use soybean sprouts and make rice together in the same pot. We’re also going to make a seasoning sauce and mix everything together to create this flavorful dish.
## Ingredients
- 1 cup of rice
- 16 oz of soybean sprouts (for 2-3 servings)
- ½ cup ground beef
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon soy sauce
- 2 cloves of minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon chopped green onion
- 1 green chili pepper, chopped
- ½ teaspoon Korean red pepper flakes
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 tablespoon roasted sesame seeds
## Instructions
### Step 1: Wash the Rice
Put one cup of rice in a heavy-bottomed pot. Wash and rinse it in cold water like this. Pour out the water by tilting your pot, then scrub the rice with your hand to wash out any dust. Rinse it again in cold water after three times. You’ll notice the water becomes clear. Drain the water carefully without pouring out all the rice.
### Step 2: Soak the Rice
Add one cup of water to the rice and let it soak for at least 30 minutes before adding the soybean sprouts. Set this aside.
### Step 3: Prepare the Soybean Sprouts
Take the soybean sprouts out of the bag. If you want, you can use a strainer to pick out any red beans or brown particles. Rinse them one more time under running water to make sure they’re clean. Drain the water and set them aside.
### Step 4: Cook the Eggs
On the side, I’m going to cook an egg sunny-side up using 1 teaspoon of vegetable oil. Once it’s cooked, I’ll turn off the heat.
### Step 5: Prepare the Ground Beef
Add a little bit of ground beef (around half a cup) to the pot. Mix in black pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Stir everything together with a spoon or even use your cutting board like I’m doing here.
### Step 6: Make the Seasoning Sauce
Now, let’s make the seasoning sauce using basic Korean ingredients. Add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 2 cloves of minced garlic, 1 tablespoon of chopped green onion, and 1 green chili pepper to a bowl. Mix everything together. Then, add half a teaspoon of Korean red pepper flakes and 1 teaspoon of honey. Finally, sprinkle in some roasted sesame seeds for extra flavor.
### Step 7: Combine Everything
After soaking the rice for 30 minutes, pour it into the pot with the ground beef. Stir well, then bring the heat to medium-high. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Lower the heat to simmer and mix everything together, ensuring the rice at the bottom doesn’t burn. Cover the pot with a lid and let it simmer for another 10 minutes.
### Step 8: Serve
When it’s done, your house will be filled with the aroma of this delicious K P! Let it cool for a moment, then mix in the soybean sprouts. Top it with some green onions, sesame seeds, and maybe an egg on the side if you want.
This dish has a nice crunch from the rice, a soft texture from the soybean sprouts, and a rich flavor from the seasoning sauce. It’s also great for dieting because you can eat as much as you like without worrying about your weight!
Enjoy this recipe with your friends and family. Until next time, bye!
