The First Drive In The The Hatch Didn't Go So Well

**Adding Weight to the MR2: A Unconventional Approach**

As we continued to fine-tune our MR2, we came across an unconventional approach to enhance its stability and performance. We decided to add 150 pounds of sandbags to the front of the car to increase its weight and reduce the likelihood of wheelies.

"We're going to give it a little more oomph off the hit," said one of us, as we carefully placed the first bag of sand into a pillowcase. "And see if we can throw some power at it to make up for the added weight." The goal was to slow down the car overall, but to keep the front half of the vehicle stable and consistent.

We chose Home Depot's play sand, which is designed for landscaping and pet areas, as our material of choice. We filled multiple pillowcases with sandbags, making sure to secure them tightly so that they wouldn't leak or shift during use. The added weight was noticeable, but we were confident that it would make a positive impact on the car's behavior.

With 50 pounds of sand on one side and another 50 on the other, our MR2 began to take shape. We strategically placed the sandbags near the gas tank, using them as makeshift weights to stabilize the vehicle. The goal was to keep the front end low and even, reducing the likelihood of wheelies.

As we worked, we discussed the potential benefits and drawbacks of adding weight to the car. While a laser height sensor would be helpful in achieving consistency, it would also require more power and time to set up. We decided that throwing some bags of sand into the mix was a simpler solution, one that wouldn't compromise our performance too much.

Our next step was to test the weight added to the front of the car. With 150 pounds of extra weight, we pushed the MR2 towards its limits. The result? A stable and consistent ride, with minimal wheelies. It was as if the added weight had brought the car down to earth.

But how did this approach affect our performance? We decided to test the car's speed over a set distance – in this case, 60 feet. With the added weight, we were able to achieve remarkable consistency, pushing the MR2 to its limits without worrying about wheelies.

As we continued to fine-tune our setup, we realized that adding weight was just the beginning. We still had to play with the chassis and adjust our tuning to get the best performance out of the car. However, with 150 pounds of sandbags on board, we felt confident that we could dial in the perfect balance of speed and stability.

Our experiment may have been unconventional, but it worked. And who knows? Maybe we'll be back at the track soon, adding more weight to our MR2 in pursuit of a new record.

"WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: enoh oh no right when the light turned green dude now real quick guys wanted to let you know that today's video is brought to you by cove audio we have worked with cove audio before in the past and once again we are showing off their new cove commuter 2 speaker this is a bluetooth wireless speaker you get up to seven hours on a single charge and what's really cool about this bluetooth wireless speaker in case you guys didn't see last time we did a video with this thing is it actually splits into two separate speakers giving you a 360 degree surround sound feeling we have been using this speaker for the last few months and this thing is great we brought it over here with us to the florida shop and while we're working on the cars and stuff over here it has been a nice addition for sure just connect this to your phone or bluetooth device hit play and you will get plenty of music wherever you need we got the one over there come over here by the s14 we got that guy right there so it's definitely really nice for working around the shop it's also water resistant so it's great for when we're hanging out in the hot tub don't got to worry about messing it up if you guys want to grab one for yourselves be sure to go to coveaudio.com 64 and you guys will save 65 on the cove commuter 2 speaker well we're starting the day off a little different a little more personal life didn't last too long man yeah she didn't make it we moved in here and bought some used washer and dryers and uh the old dryer just took a crap on us so we got to bring this thing back good thing we got a 60-day warranty from this uh random little used appliance place good old samson man yep got good tvs but their dryers aren't sold freaking boosted appliances today boys all right just got our broken dryer dropped off so hopefully they fix that soon uh we got the mr2 pulled out because as you guys saw the last track day uh i went the two eights but we blew oil everywhere because we lost this valve cover washer right here so i got another one put on there and it turns out like all the valve cover bolts were pretty loose or all the nuts so got those all snug down she should not be leaking oil from that anymore but it's still super oily so we're going to just soak this thing down and give her a good bath real quick and if you listen to the engine some of you guys were mentioning that you could hear it sounded weird and we should probably do a compression check on it you know just to see where it's at but no one else we're probably just gonna send it regardless when you turn it over it does sound fun you can hear turning over sounds like every hole is hitting hard on compression so to me that is a good to go just got some don dish soap no it's good for the ducks and uh good old dawn you can use this on everything bro yeah they clean off uh greasy ducks with it so they're all cleaned up man there you go it can clean an mr2 do you want to spray the oil out of it look at the exhaust it made it all crazy looking i think it looks cool because they're like they'd like that but yeah like burned onto their we're lucky it didn't cause any fire because that's a lot of oil that was probably really hot and with all that oil coming out that could have definitely ignited so i mean you got yeah we got residue everywhere all because of that little washer but i mean if you guys look at the video it literally looked like a pressure cooker just spewing out of that guy right there on the two-step much rest yeah keep everything nice and rust free back here all right just got the mr2 all cleaned off she is no longer dripping oil out from the tail lights and stuff there is oil caked everywhere in this thing but we got her washed down pretty good just going to let it dry off and i think we might try to take the hatch for a quick cruise she's been sitting for a minute she hasn't seen the streets of florida in a long time yeah i mean at least a year or two no yeah the last time it's been down here is when i drove it when it ran that nine eight yep and then we drove it back it's been the last time we gotta get her off the slicks we don't have a spline key but a 17 millimeter does the job and uh we are borrowing some of ricky's wheels and tires right here this is actually the same ones i used to run way back when the the same e.t street and we even got the matching wheels to go along with it you already had the ones in the back yeah i got the slip streams on her he just said don't make him bald is all he said he said yeah he's like he can use him but just he don't want him back looking like this looking like a slick the first video is just a burnout sorry ricky she is ready for cruise wouldn't be the hatch if they had a charged battery that's for sure we'll need this yeah we always need that what tools did you bring man oh the whole kit oh jesus gotta give her the florida tune now yeah i think she needs a little fuel you yeah know damn bringing the fishing pole the case got me a little rod what are you trying to catch dinner pick us up a fish tonight hey if you see a little fishing spot you never know they were gone now kyle's changing little by little man all year round out here bringing the ugly stick walmart special baby all right you get hot over here oh man is it going to start the battery's dead dead bro we're at the turnings oh man let me get out oh what is this no push it yeah oh man there goes that radiator it's all right we'll just have to push it bro you might be able to flip it around and make it in right over there flip it around all right turn it back there you go kyle you said let's go for a cruise not for a run i didn't think it was going to be an issue well she puked a little bit oh she's just overflowing yeah she's a little she's not happy all right i buy a walgreens get some more water top bro you good to go i don't even know if it's leaking or something you just got or maybe the fan's not on turn the key see no the fan doesn't work oh wow yeah you need that in florida it has to stay moving yeah i was hoping the battery would charge up enough but i think that battery's done yeah i didn't even click not at all hey there's an advance right there let's get a new one real quick it's the special little one you have one right here is that one dead too yeah like those those little yeah i know what you're doing yeah a couple downs i got you this too oh nice i don't know if you ever tried that one so i think i have made it still good on the tent yeah but we are rocking the heater getting ourselves some 50 pound bags of sand you guys see what these are for in a minute you can probably guess we had a cooler idea we wanted to find some empty sandbags and go to the beach and you know get some actual floor to grade sand ourselves but i guess they don't have the empty bags here so we're just gonna have to settle with the play sand but that should be enough that's a hundred pounds of sand right here look at the front of that cart we might need one more yeah i don't know if we can fit that many though i mean that doesn't look that big bro i thought you could fit at least three or four in here i don't think we could fit no i don't know just get extra one in case that's 150 pounds i mean they're only five bucks yeah might as well it's like having an extra passenger in the car whatever well at least you're trying we're trying something this is the poor man wheelie control that's some weight bro that's like you right there that's basically you that's a whole kyle probably a little bit more 150 pounds it's like right where i'm at soaking wet yeah a couple more bags for me i know it's low bro it's crazy that's just 150 pounds and it's making it squat like that it's a lot of weight that is now the second time the hatch has died in the road on us sorry keeps dying dude you gotta shut the hood how am i supposed to drive like that we need to get a new battery for this thing oh my gosh i feel like i'm in a pit crew dude so for some reason i couldn't get the laptop to connect to the hondata i think i got to update the drivers or something so i wasn't able to update the tune and you can hear that it breaks up pretty bad it's it's lean popping because we need more fuel so unfortunately we can't rip on her too hard today until i get the laptop figured out but she still cruises good other than that as long as we're moving it doesn't get hot and as long as we're running the heater fan we can actually we can sit at a stoplight for a given amount of time so all right now we're gonna go get some food then we have to jump it every time we turn it off every time every time the battery is the battery's slowly coming back but hopefully on this long cruiser going on maybe it'll be it might charge it up enough and i also don't have harnesses in here they took them back out over at pfi because they had to make a race that thing's pretty clean he's like whoa i just jumped the camera in the street i think it's nice it is pretty clean he's missing a headlight maybe there's a turbo maybe all motor no i think it is almost yeah he has that headlight intake all right easy on the pedal easy on the pedal and i'll follow this thing up teresa i know you would i've seen it before you're gonna you got me like that thing i can dude i'm sorry she's too hot oh no right when the light turned green dude come on pit crew oh i feel so bad for these people come on let's go let's go pit crew let's go let's go nascar cop right there is there hold this one take this oh the cop was about to pull us over but he seemed that we were all right he had his lights on when i went back and i like i i just held this up just pulled to the right we're on a mission today i'd hit the emergency lane dude like a little bit of water was coming up when a little bit like a little bit yeah we're about to get some more i just pull it to the shoulder and let it cool down so gosh dang it oh man it's just too much traffic right now we can't get anywhere if we stay moving it's fine once we hit that highway which is right up there i think we'd be fine we'll be good then we can go get some some bahama breeze and some good food that'd be worth it by then i'd have a good workout see if i can catch a fish no green light all right we're just gonna wait it's gonna i can just hit it douse it it's like we're on race week again dude that's what it feels like staying over all our cars water oh i could hear it from here yes that's hot shut up put your wine coolant lines real fat right now no fish but they caught the storm we did i had to at least try this pull out you know bitchin so me and emilio just stopped to get some food and you see it's dark out now but while we were stopped at the restaurant we brought the tools so i added 10 psi of fuel pressure on the regulator since we couldn't get the laptop to work so now it's running much better we have some extra fuel and if you listen still a little lean up top you can hear it but she's right there boys yeah it's a little wet so we're just pulling the tires so yeah you can definitely hear you need still a little bit more we're about to go hit this other little fishing spot real quick just for fun but uh while we're there i could probably bump it up like five more psi and we'll be set oh yeah yeah he's pulling now i was barely on it just watching the air fuel right there oh that battery is slowly coming back yeah if you leave it overnight it might come come back alive let's put on the charger well we made it back that was an adventure after overheating what like five times and then it turned dark and then it was fine although all the way back yeah probably took her on what like a good hour plus cruise yeah it's been a couple hours bro you've been doing good yeah tune is a little closer now just got to get the laptop fixed not bad for sitting forever got these bags of sand from home depot let's see if we can fit them up in the nose of the mr2 i'll keep those wheelies down that one's gonna get some like regular weights and mount them up but really not too many places we can put them yeah i was looking we might have enough space just to stuff some sandbags right by the gas tank as long as we like put these in like a pillowcase or something make sure they don't tear and start leaking sand everywhere we can decide this is the tighter side that side will be fine oh dude that's perfect we are good to go that's 50 pounds right there that's 50 on one side and then we'll do another 50 on the other oh getting a workout today boy pushing cars picking up sand you know you can't go anywhere that's 100 more pounds right there good to go we might be able to stuff the third somehow probably just or tomorrow we can find i can find little baggies i don't think it'll just lay over that no this this almost hits so like oh does it super close well that's all the way in the front i mean we can try it maybe you push it towards the back just want to make you lift up those bags more it's gonna be close i don't think so maybe it is like maybe right here in this little this might hit yeah i don't think that's gonna work right here is too high yeah oh oh oh i think it might push where's it hitting oh yeah see right right on this hey but the the sand is moving out where it needs to go we got weights that self-adjust right self-clearance memory foam oh there it goes that's 150 pounds right watch the bag is completely ripped everywhere right that one we're trying to keep the sand together you just rip the whole bag oh yeah bro it's perfect yeah we'll definitely make something work with the sandbags that's the best way to do it that's easy because good old play sand we're gonna go play oh yeah use for sandboxes landscaping pet areas doesn't say for a mr2 weight ballast but i'm just gonna have to write that on we'll just make our own so yeah that's 150 pounds of sand if needed so we were talking about doing the laser height sensor and yes that would help a lot and it would probably make our 60 foots consistent but i was kind of thinking about it if the laser height sensor has to pull a whole bunch of power just to keep the nose down then that's time lost so i think what would be better is to add some more weight and play with the chassis more and see if we can get the wheelie to be controlled just in the tuning ourselves and not relying on a sensor so then we can throw more power at it because the front end is going to be harder to lift up and at some point we should be able to add enough weight in the nose of the car that we put too much power instead of pulling a wheelie it's going to knock the back tire you know it's going to do a burn out and like take the back end out that's what a normal like rear wheel drive car does i think it's gonna take us way too long to dial in that laser height sensor right now and i don't think it's gonna help too much i think it's just gonna be more of a consistency thing and we're so close to the record right now that i don't want to spend a whole bunch of days at the track dialing that sensor because i have no idea how long it's going to take so we're so close and the setup works good how it is if we just throw some bags of sand in here give her a little more oomph off the hit and it doesn't wheelie too bad then i think we're going to go with that route so something to try out and this is only a 15 way to put 150 pounds into the front of the car so we'll just make sure we get some good like pillowcases around these or something so that we don't get sand leaking everywhere and you know see if we can throw some more power get that 60 foot down and see if we can get that record because engine seems like it's running healthy and we're gonna bring it back in the next couple days see what happens but that's our idea for now to be continued we have no idea how this is gonna work but it shuts 150 pounds of extra weight on the front that's going to help so that's also going to slow down the car overall but it's going to help us to get that front half down we can always feed her a little more power to make up for that weight so we're sending it youoh oh no right when the light turned green dude now real quick guys wanted to let you know that today's video is brought to you by the back tire you know it's going to do a burn out and like take the back end out that's what a normal like rear wheel drive car does i think it's gonna take us way too long to dial in that laser height sensor right now and i don't think it's gonna help too much i think it's just gonna be more of a consistency thing and we're so close to the record right now that i don't want to spend a whole bunch of days at the track dialing that sensor because i have no idea how long it's going to take so we're so close and the setup works good how it is if we just throw some bags of sand in here give her a little more oomph off the hit and it doesn't wheelie too bad then i think we're going to go with that route so something to try out and this is only a 15 way to put 150 pounds into the front of the car so we'll just make sure we get some good like pillowcases around these or something so that we don't get sand leaking everywhere and you know see if we can throw some more power get that 60 foot down and see if we can get that record because engine seems like it's running healthy and we're gonna bring it back in the next couple days see what happens but that's our idea for now to be continued we have no idea how this is gonna work but it shuts 150 pounds of extra weight on the front that's going to help so that's also going to slow down the car overall but it's going to help us to get that front half down we can always feed her a little more power to make up for that weight so we're sending it you\n"
