Linksys WRT 1900AC High Performance WiFi Router Unboxing & Overview

Unboxing the WRT1900 AC: A Comprehensive Review of the Linksys Router

As I opened the packaging, I was immediately impressed by the size and weight of the router. It's clear that this is not just another consumer-grade Wi-Fi router, but a high-end device designed to deliver top-notch performance. The packaging itself is also noteworthy, with a sturdy box and plenty of documentation to get you started.

The quick start guide provided in the package is a useful resource, offering a step-by-step guide on how to set up the router and connect it to your network. It's worth noting that the instructions advise against placing anything on top of the router, as its powerful D-core processor may generate enough heat to cause damage. This is a responsible design choice, considering the importance of keeping the router cool.

As I delved deeper into the package, I found the four detachable antennas. These are not only flexible but also easy to attach and detach. While it's recommended to use all four antennas for optimal performance, you can also experiment with using just one or two if needed. The antennas themselves are a nice touch, providing additional flexibility in terms of placement and orientation.

The accessories that come with the router include a gigabit flat Ethernet cable, a power brick, and a USB 2 port. The power brick is a Lynxis-branded unit, capable of delivering up to 4 amps and supporting inputs from 100-240 volts. This means that the router should be able to handle even the most demanding devices without issue.

Finally, I took out the CD-ROM, which includes the quick start guide, user manual, and other documentation. The CD-ROM is a nice touch, providing users with access to additional resources and support materials. It's also worth noting that the router comes with a mobile app for controlling and monitoring your network on-the-go.

Moving on to the router itself, I was struck by its size and weight. As mentioned earlier, it's one of the largest Wi-Fi routers I've had the pleasure of testing, with a substantial design that should appeal to enthusiasts and power users alike. The front panel features status LEDs for each band (2.4GHz and 5GHz), along with the model number "WRT1900 AC".

As I powered on the router, the LED indicators lit up, providing a clear indication of its status. The design is functional and clean, with plenty of vents to dissipate heat generated by the powerful D-core processor. I also noticed that there are four Ethernet ports, each capable of delivering gigabit speeds, as well as a USB 3 port and two USB 2 ports.

Moving towards the back, I found the WPS button, dedicated switch, and additional Ethernet ports. The router also supports DLNA, allowing you to stream content directly from connected devices to your TV or computer. This feature is particularly useful for streaming enthusiasts who want to enjoy high-quality video content without having to rely on external services.

Finally, I attached the antennas and took a moment to appreciate the design of the router. As mentioned earlier, it's one of the largest Wi-Fi routers I've tested, with a substantial design that should appeal to power users. The flexibility of the antennas is also noteworthy, providing additional options for experimentation and placement.

The Pricing

The Linksys WRT1900 AC is certainly a high-end router, with a price tag to match. In the US market, it's listed at around $299, making it one of the most expensive consumer-grade Wi-Fi routers available. While this may be out of reach for some budgets, I believe that the performance and features offered by this router make it well worth the investment.
