just launched at quail a motor sports gathering during the monterey car week in california and today we can take a look behind the scenes at the lamborghini hq in italy to check out the new car and run through all of the details let's take a look at this then the new model and to give it its full name the lamborghini countach lpi 800-4 now it's quite an intriguing name for reasons i will explain in a moment and i bet you don't know where it all comes from and in fact the car even makes more than the suggested 800 horsepower but as we take a look at it and go for a walk around to go through all of the details and the design you can instantly recognize that this is a tribute to the 50 year old model one of the most iconic lamborghini designs of all time one of the most legendary cars they've ever made the original countach of the 1970s and 80s we have that very familiar wedge shape and design elements like the very low horizontal front nose you have the intakes on the side the ducts you've got the integrated air scoops the hexagonal wheel arches the slatted grilles the periscopio lines over the rear deck and so much more we can explore including on the interior of the new cuntache as well now it joins lamborghini's few off series of cars the name they give to their very ultra exclusive bespoke limited edition models we've seen a number in recent years starting with the reventon going through for example to the very very exclusive veneno of which there were only three coupes and then the latest model was the cyan of which they made 63 coupes and 19 roadsters 1963 being the year that lamborghini were founded now for the new countach there are going to be 112 units in total and that's a number that actually comes from the original car which was first launched 50 years ago back at the geneva motor show in 1971 and in fact it carried the code name the lp112 112 and hence the number of units of the new model now countach itself as i said where does that come from because it is in fact one of the very few lamborghini models that is not named after a famous fighting bull in fact kunta is a word from the piedmontese dialect which quite literally means plague but is used effectively to show amazement like my goodness and my goodness the kuntash was quite a striking car when it was first launched they went into production in 1974 and lasted all the way through to 1990 during which time they produced 1983 examples over five different models across those almost two decades now the new contact carries that name plate linking back to the old car the first time lamborghini have done this normally their few off models have been new or perhaps had design inspirations but this is really a link and in fact there's even been a countach rally of the original cars to head up to the launch of the new car at quail as well now i want to run through this in detail to fully explore it to take in everything about a very striking car and in fact the color of this car is actually bianco citarale which has a hint of pearlescent blue it's the same color as ferruccio lamborghini's personal countach lp 400s so another lovely tie-in with this new model and obviously each of these cars will allow or enable the customers to work very closely with lamborghini through central stele to make bespoke specifications and that's part of where the project was really born when michael borkert head of centro stiles was effectively studying models of the original kunt ashes and thinking how to bring it to life in the modern day how to make a modern interpretation and in this case of course to use lamborghini's v12 platform that they've had well throughout the years all the way back from the miura but based on effectively the aventador set up the 6.5 litre naturally aspirated v12 but in the case of this also with a hybrid system hence the lpr now lpi actually means longitudinally posterior ibrito which effectively means longitudinally mounted hybrid vehicle as opposed to the traditional lp it's a name we saw once before on the asterion lpi 900 i remember seeing that for the first time probably seven years ago or so but since then lamborghini stayed very much purely with combustion engines but now moving towards a more hybrid future with plenty of models to come within well within the next number of years now in this case it is as i said a hybrid the combustion engine being the six and a half liter v12 makes 780 horsepower as we've seen in some of the other models and that's combined with a 48 volt e-motor and a super capacitor for an additional 34 to make 814 horsepower in total which thanks to the four-wheel drive system and it still maintains the isr automated manual gearbox means a zero to 100 kilometers per hour or 62 miles per hour time of 2.8 seconds and a zero to 200 kilometers an hour or 124 miles per hour time of 8.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 355 kilometers an hour that's 221 miles per hour now if we take a look at the interior of the car it continues some of the traditional elements through here as well you can have it with heritage leather finished with the design and styling cues as well that in some ways linked back but also featuring the digital infotainment screens both the digital dashboard and in the central console but then when you come around towards the rear you have the super capacitor which sits effectively in the bulkhead you've got the window over the top the photochromatic window which can be darkened at the press of a button the dashboard display will go through a host of different screens depending on the driving mode and you have lots of carbon fiber as well tying in a bit of a modern touch into the older car with the familiar start stop flap right in the center too now when it comes to the seats you'll notice here we've got the red leather with the contrast stitch the different piping you can see around in the countach logo on the central console as well but with this square pattern a modern interpretation of the original interior style finished with the lamborghini embroidery up on the headrests as well now to look a little bit more closely at some of the design as i said you have that very low horizontal front nose with the wedge shape of the car that leads back from it around the side you have those super aggressive cut out hexagonal wheel arches housing a new wheel design styled like those in the 1980s 20 inch at the front 21 inch at the rear before you come to a very clean looking rear end of the car mixing the six hexagonal styled tail lights with a clean design an integrated wrist spoiler as opposed to a fixed wing like some of the different contact derivatives had over time and then around at the side the gills and the side intakes again styled and bringing in some design of the cuntache into the new model a car that is striking it's long it's low it's wide it's definitive supercar and that's always been so much of what lamborghini represents things like not having clean wheel arch designs gives your eye more to look at gives you something to be intrigued by when you're standing there then around towards the back you can see how it's actually quite open at the lower sections you have the quad tailpipe sitting in the center of a carbon fiber diffuser that contrasts against the white paint giving something to to take in as well then you have very clean and smooth designs this shape that surrounds the tail lamps and the lamborghini logo again similar to the cuntache models of old with different openings for the cooling for everything that's required from the engine we find back here underneath this slatted rear engine bay cover another element that's integrated from the cuntache but in this case the 6.5 liter naturally aspirated v12 with the bronze engine topper as well bringing in some of those periscopio design elements as well of course different quintas models existed back at the time the car evolved through the years as well and we could take a better look at the new wheel design that's been created for this particular car the more you see the more there is to take in of course big cooling required at the side it wears the lpi 800-4 badging you've got those upper intakes as well for additional cooling behind the fuel filler cap and the gills which again are styled in a very similar way to those found back on the cuntache at the time it is really something that when you see it in person and can take in all the details like for example the kuntash badge that's worn there beneath the front lip just slightly indented you can take it all in and understand and learn a little bit more from it even the headlights for example they're created specifically for the car a departure from the normal y style design that we've come to expect on lamborghini models this is taking a different path a different course to even the other models that are featured in the few off series now when you take a look at some of the pictures with the old cuntache and the new contact together you start to see even more of these elements for example the intakes that sit high over the rear arches again that very low front nose of course with new regulations certain things are unable to be directly recreated on the new car but it is really a truly definitive supercar as the countach always was low sleek but aggressive as well when you start to look up more closely at some of the design elements and as i mentioned this strip that runs across the rear you have the hexagonal shape that heads around those enlarging as it goes around the tail lights exactly as it did on the original contact rear end but effectively a modern interpretation of the original car modern technology in many respects on a car that is really quite striking to behold and to actually look at it is long it is low it is wide and as i said it is definitive supercar again over the arches in front of those intakes you have that gill style structure you have the slatted gills as well over the engine bay all elements that tie in in various different capacities of course with the contact changing so much over its different years originally it does leave a lot of different interpretation for example to bring in elements from the lp 400 lp 500 cuatro valvolet and different iterations along the years but this is a car i can't wait to see in person one that customers are going to have a lot of fun going through the specifications for doing it in very different ways some perhaps more traditional styling with flat paint colors heritage leather 1970s style stitching others might opt to go for more modern pearlescent paints and bring in some more modern leathers to go with that as well but either way the thing with lamborghini has always been an emotional connection and i think reintroducing a modern interpretation of a car from five decades prior is a way to bring an emotional connection to make something that links back to what the company and where the company has really come from in the first place and this is something that really does that perhaps at quite the price tag expect these to be in the region of two to three million dollars euros pounds that kind of ballpark either way it's certainly not going to come at say the price tag of an aventador but it does also give us an insight into what will come next the future of lamborghini the next v12 model of course the aventador on which this is based has been around for approximately a decade now launching back around 2011 2012.
