Packing Up Memories: A Nostalgic Look at Old iPhone 4 Games
Hey, what's good, guys? It's Keaton here, and I've been doing a ton of packing recently. You might wonder why, and the answer is that I'm actually moving to California in three days. I have to admit, I'm not too excited about leaving Chicago, but this new adventure has me feeling pretty stoked.
As I was packing, I stumbled upon something that really caught my attention - my old iPhone 4. I couldn't believe it that this device wasn't broken, considering I love breaking things. The phone was running iOS 7, which is just completely nuts, especially since we're now on iOS 9. iOS 7 feels like something from decades ago, and it really made me think about the past.
I came up with an idea as I played some of these old games - if you played any of them, drop a like on this video and let me know in the comments which one. It's time to take a trip down memory lane and revisit some of my favorite childhood games. Up first is Zombieville USA, released in February 2009.
Zombieville USA was so popular that they actually released a second version in 2011, and it went for $0.99. This game threw you into a zombie apocalypse where you had to defend yourself by robbing houses to get different ammo. You could even pick between different characters that had different specialities, with some being better weapon increases. I loved this game; there were tons of different characters to pick from, and it was just really cool.
As you progressed through the levels, you'd kill zombies with different guns, and you had to watch your health because, well, you could die. Yeah, it was just really awesome getting those sweet guns that would cause complete mayhem. It was one of my favorite games, and I still miss it. Did someone try to call me on the iPhone 4? Is this really a thing that just happened?
Next up is Doodle Jump, which was released in April 2009. One of the apps was free, but then you could remove the ads for just $0.99. What you had to do was play as "you," aka the doodler, and hit play, come on. That's when I knew I was on an iPhone 4 - a complete iPhone 4 problem. You'd scale to different steps, keep going up and up and up, and if you saw a monster, those monsters would hurt you.
I felt like I'm talking like a four-year-old here; this feels weird. All you had to do is tap on the screen, shoot pellets at them, and they would die. Now, there were just different little things you could hit, such as springs that would elevate you farther. That's really all there was to it.
They released a total of six apps to date, so that should let you know how popular it was. You guys probably guessed this would be on the list, and it is. Up next is Temple Run, which was released in July 2009. It was a free app and was so popular that they released a second version, the one I currently have downloaded on my iPhone 6S+, which is Temple Run 2.0.
Temple Run was essentially just running through a temple while evil demon monkeys chased you when they caught you and ended up eating you if you lost or accidentally ran into something. You'd see these mysterious creatures that I had to google, apparently they are some sort of monkey. Along the way, you'd have to duck from certain obstacles, collect coins, and tilt your phone to collect those coins.
With those coins, you could spend them on perks and different types of clothing. It was so popular that even my dad had downloaded it. That's an instant blast from the past, and I'm loving every minute of it.
