The Kia Soul has undergone a significant facelift for the new model year, with several notable changes making it more desirable than ever. We're here to take a closer look at both the sporty GT line and the rugged X line, which offer two distinct approaches to what makes this compact hatchback so unique.
The Kia Soul GT line is designed to provide an exciting driving experience that's perfect for those who want a little more excitement in their daily commute. This model comes with a sporty appearance package that sets it apart from the rest of the soul lineup, featuring revised front and rear fascias that give the car a more aggressive look. In addition to its stylish exterior, the GT line also gets 18-inch alloy wheels that add to the overall performance feel.
One of the standout features of the Kia Soul GT line is its LED lighting package, which provides a sleek and modern appearance under the hood. The sport-tuned suspension ensures a smoother ride, while bigger brakes provide better stopping power in emergency situations. But what really sets the GT line apart is its interior design, with red accents throughout that add to the car's premium feel.
Inside the Kia Soul GT line, you'll find a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel, red stitching on the seats and dashboard trim, and cool LED lights that pulse along with the music when playing back your favorite tunes. However, it's worth noting that the lighting system can still be difficult to see in daylight hours due to its high-tech design.
On the other hand, the Kia Soul X line is designed for those who want a more rugged look without sacrificing comfort or practicality. This model features a different front fascia with bigger headlights and round fog lights that add to its off-road-inspired aesthetic. The plastic cladding also gives the car a more utilitarian feel.
One thing to keep in mind when considering the Kia Soul X line is that it doesn't offer all-wheel drive, even on the off-road-optimized model. While this may not be a major concern for most drivers, it does mean that you won't get the same level of traction and stability as some other compact hatchbacks.
Despite its lack of all-wheel drive, the Kia Soul X line still offers plenty of room inside, thanks to its longer length and bigger door openings compared to previous models. This makes it a great choice for those who need a little more space without sacrificing too much fuel efficiency.
Under the hood, both versions of the Kia Soul come with two engines: a 2-liter naturally aspirated inline-four that pairs well with a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT automatic. While neither engine is particularly powerful by today's standards, the 1.6-liter turbocharged inline-four offers significantly more power and torque than the base model.
The turbocharged engine is only available on the Kia Soul GT line, which starts at just under $20,000. This is significantly cheaper than the base model soul, which starts at around $18,000. However, it's worth noting that the price jump may not be justified for those who don't need or want the extra power.
Regardless of which trim level you choose, both versions of the Kia Soul come with a long list of standard and available features that make them some of the most well-equipped compact hatchbacks on the market. This includes a 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as a backup camera that's mandatory for all new cars.
Overall, the Kia Soul is an excellent choice for those who want a reliable and feature-packed compact hatchback without breaking the bank. With its stylish interior design, sporty handling, and generous list of standard features, it's no wonder why this car has become so popular in recent years. Whether you're looking for a little more excitement or practicality, the Kia Soul is sure to meet your needs.

the more rugged outdoorsy X line over here let's take a look at some of the differences the Kia Soul GT line adds the sporty appearance package which sets it apart from the rest of the soul lineup it has revised front and rear fascias that are distinct from the rest of the Seoul lineup and red accents all over the car it also has LED lighting 18-inch alloy wheels and a cool center mounted dual exit exhaust finisher on the turbo model a couple of mechanical perks of the GT line are bigger brakes and a sport-tuned suspension those red accents on the GT line continue on the inside of the car with red stitching all over the interior trim plus a sporty flat-bottom steering wheel and cool LEDs and the speakers and in the doors that pulse with the music making for a cool visual experience when driving at night however like previous holes with this kind of lighting it's still pretty hard to see in the daylight the X line is a more rugged Kia Soul with a different front fascia that includes bigger headlights round fog lights and plastic cladding I know what you're thinking and know there's still no all-wheel-drive available on the Kia Soul not even on this off-road e.x line model this is strictly an appearance package to give off the aesthetic of off-road capability that's not necessarily a bad thing but it would be nice to have the off-road chops to back up its rugged look that would make it more competitive with little off-roaders like the Jeep renegade trailhawk the new soul is a little longer than the outgoing model and has bigger door openings making it a little more roomy and a little easier to get in and out of it still has very compact proportions making it great for agile city driving and its boxy profile makes it pretty roomy on the inside as for what's under that boxy hood there are two engines available in the new Kia Soul the base engine is a 2-liter naturally aspirated inline four that comes with a six-speed manual transmission at the base level but most souls with this engine will be linked to a CVT automatic transmission this engine makes 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque which doesn't sound like much but thanks to a well tuned CVT it has a respectable hustle and even some decent highway passing power while achieving 27 City 33 Highway mpg that fuel economy gets a little worse with the manual transmission for a little more hustle you can upgrade to the 1.6 liter turbocharged inline-4 linked to a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission this turbocharged unit turns up the heat with 201 horsepower and 196 pound-feet of torque on paper that's a big upgrade and the extra grunt is noticeable from behind the wheel that extra performance brings with it a minimal fuel economy penalty at 27 City 32 Highway mpg the turbo makes the soul a hot little hatchback but if you're using the soul for what it's intended for like urban commuting and errands around town you probably won't find much of a benefit in the turbocharged engine the turbo is the enthusiast choice but the average soul driver will be more than content with the efficient and affordable base engine another reason to skip the turbocharged engine is the significant price hike that it brings with it the turbo engine which is only available on the SOL GT line has a starting price of twenty eight thousand four hundred eighty-five dollars which is a full ten thousand dollar jump over the souls base price of eighteen thousand four hundred eighty five dollars we like the look of the GT line and a few do too we think the GT line car with the base engine coming in at just over 20 thousand dollars is a better value Kia went all out with both standard and available technology in the new Seoul standard tech includes a 7-inch infotainment system with Bluetooth Android auto apple carplay and of course a backup camera which is now mandatory on all new cars the long list of available tech includes driver assistance features like adaptive cruise control Lane Keeping Assist blind spot monitoring high-beam assist and more other available tech in the neusel includes a head-up display a 10-inch infotainment system Harman Kardon premium audio with those cool LEDs you saw earlier and wireless charging overall the new Kia Soul is an improvement over an already good compact hatchback it adds a lot of new content while retaining all of the quirkiness of previous souls and as always a very strong value we like the new look and while it sure would be nice to have all-wheel drive as an option most drivers can probably live without it if
