The Art of Drag Racing: A Conversation with Anthony and His Corvette

Anthony recently took his Corvette to the drag strip for a test run, but things didn't quite go as planned. As he was trying to get the car into gear, it wouldn't shift properly. "It sounded like your half was better within your 3,4 whatever it was was not better," Anthony explained to his friends. He decided to let Kyle take the wheel so that they could see what was going on with the transmission.

Kyle took the Corvette for a spin and noticed that it wasn't shifting as smoothly as he had expected. "I remember when I took rice from Miata and and I was trying to grab it on the highway," Anthony recalled. "It did not shift and I was just going easy on that one like I was just trying to get it in gear first and letting go." Kyle asked if he could try driving the car, but Anthony cautioned him that his own experience with shifting was limited.

Despite the challenges with the transmission, Anthony remains confident that his Corvette can reach a 10-second pass. "I'd be just as happy bro knowing that it could do it," he said. However, he's not sure if he has a history of success in drag racing. "I don't think I want to be that much better," he joked.

Just then, another driver jumped into the Corvette and started revving up the engine. Anthony was surprised to see the owner walking through the scene, but they seemed unphased by the sudden appearance of an unknown driver. The owner eventually pulled the newcomer out of the car and shut him down. It's clear that Anthony has a bit of experience with unexpected situations on the track.

Despite the challenges, Anthony is making progress with his Corvette. His team recently managed to trap 130 miles per hour, which is impressive considering the car's potential. "They're only ten miles behind the record holder," Anthony noted, referring to the Corvette's struggles at higher speeds. He's optimistic that with further development and tuning, his car will be able to reach even faster times.

Anthony also shared some insights into the behavior of his transmission. He suspected that it might be shifting too early or not at all, which was causing him to lose control of the car. "I think I mean for sure it was locking me out," he said, referring to the transmission's tendency to refuse to shift under certain conditions.

As Anthony and his friends continued to discuss their experiences on the track, one thing became clear: drag racing is a challenging but rewarding sport. yeah we adjusted the pitch mount so hopefully that helps us in shifting the but I feel like even if I don't get the gears in as fast if I could just get them in and go I think we could get our 10 today so you're just hoping we can get a 10-second pass out of it well that's the goal so yeah we're getting ready to load up right now we're already running a little late we got to get this thing on the trailer and then we're just gonna head right over and wall Emilio was messing with Han drew I also got the motor painted for the mr2 and I got it completely assembled and I just threw on this pink valve cover Brent had just for fun and through the intake manifold on and the damper right there but I got it all put together and painted so the motor for the mr2 is completely done all I gotta do now is just put the sensors on it and all the little miscellaneous things but that is ready to go outside outside I let the paint dry but I'm gonna go ahead and push this thing back in and we're gonna get Honda reloaded up to the track the last time we use those trailers when this fender takes your car I know I don't like this trailer freakin tire blew and I still have a dent in my hat trim it got on drew all loaded up and now we're off to the track to see if we can't get some better passes out of this thing you get all this dirt off the tires so muddy all right guys we got Han drew and loaded got it tucked in and she is inline and amelia is getting ready to make his first pass right now he's about to go up and you know just a couple minutes here there's only these cars in front of him and yeah we'll see what she does on the first pass are you gonna slow shift it on the first hit yeah I'll probably launch it harder and just slow shift it just make sure it goes into every gear and then maybe not shift to crazy far into the RPM yeah I'm probably gonna try to go like 85 so to see what she does and then I'll go higher from there well hopefully Brent's Street tune does work so good on this tree that's what it does on the track yeah what do you think it's gonna do Pedro I can't do the ten with your damn cheese pizza in here give it out way out 11:7 1:30 all of the crap thirty with a 1/8 60-foot work on that but then god that's the hi all eleven seven eight 130 that's not too bad no he the launch sucked but he trapped 130 the best that's ever tried before is 125 yep that's definitely enough to go at 10 not bad 31 30 dude that's the new fastest trap for sure it was a 180 60 buck and come out a lot better than that it still came I didn't want a 60-foot no it bogged a little bit of sounded like fog yeah didn't really I think you need to give it some more on the launch more on the launch yeah news I in fourth gear nice you definitely have enough mile an hour for a 10 easy you just got to get it into gear and out of the hole yeah and the thing is I'm still shifting it's like not letting me so I'm just election comes slow fine if I can match these gears well maybe try shifting a little faster just keep trying faster until it doesn't let you 11:7 hey 130 first hit ain't too bad so we already got her back in line luckily it's not too busy today and he's gonna go again and like what maybe 10 more minutes and just try to maybe launch it harder I think that's where slowing you down cuz I remember when you had the stock motor in this thing you let it freakin eat from the launch and it was spinning all for ya like slipping the clutch more and not giving it all yeah it is scary I don't break anything even I gave it more that time it went 1 8 is still 180 that's nothing that's honestly faster than I thought it was I thought it was gonna be in the twos yeah yeah but ideally this thing should be able to like 1 5 I mean with some we need some better tires too though it's still on the street tire session at least I think maybe a 1 6 1 7 yeah so he'll get there really has a quick-release now yeah I went to a K series parts and gotten to the hub and the quick-release and then we should be getting some steering wheels in the mail here soon we'll see this one's just the one from the ek I just took it out of my ye Kay Neeley I was getting ready to make his second run you're going up against that fast Evo that made her give you some motivation to go attend I feel like the Lightning huh letter e yeah you got it you gotta be a bad thing it's fast it going to light though so it looks like I'm gonna be racing at 810 horsepower Evo good luck brother on my second run all right one-thirty again seems like he's having some issues getting into gear though yeah he got the Evo though evil was having some issues too hey at least you got the Evo right 60-foot but that one - so who's shifting good in Florida though at the track locking you out of gear yeah this time so like the first couple runs I was just getting it in here first and then going but this one I was like you know what I stood the seat up a little bit more forward so I get more on the clutch and I was like I'm just gonna bang it like how I would have like in the beginning to see if it would go in like that and it would not go in at all so this time what I'm gonna do it cuz I've been trying to like shift earlier just to try to get it in but I think with this time what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna preload it harder launch a little harder and I'm just gonna I'll let it go all the way to nine get it in gear next gear nine get it in gear so I'll grab it out and still slow shoot and see if I can do a better pass for now you know I saw meaning I don't know what else to do really yeah she's acting up yeah cause it's like it like we took it to Omaha it felt so good like she gets shipped like butter you know we've changed so many little things it's kind of hard to like pinpoint what it is you know because after we broke the shifter or the shift-select or whatever you put that back in and then yeah has it been the same we changed the driveshaft from there we changed it to a short shifter solid transmission mount like I don't know if it just needed this a little bit of slop than it did have in the beginning maybe that's what made it work and then now that everything is nice and tight like something else needs to be adjusted I'm not a hundred percent sure I'm just trying to go through what I'm I know like the car like what we've done to the car you know it's kind of hard to pinpoint but I don't know I want it to work I want to just shift it because the power is there mile an hour is there that's 1:30 is like I 11:3 123 that was 123 yeah when I did the 11300 was it 123 and it was like a 1 7 or 1e there's a 1 8 16 foot and you just did a 1 7 yeah with seven more mile-an-hour back half so it'd be going easy tens right now you know I mean why it went a 10-8 yesterday like 126 yeah in his Civic so well we're not giving up we're gonna figure it out you know we got a figure now because I want to see it do you know attend at first but I still want to see it go faster than that -
