The Art of Drag Racing: A Conversation with Anthony and His Corvette
Anthony recently took his Corvette to the drag strip for a test run, but things didn't quite go as planned. As he was trying to get the car into gear, it wouldn't shift properly. "It sounded like your half was better within your 3,4 whatever it was was not better," Anthony explained to his friends. He decided to let Kyle take the wheel so that they could see what was going on with the transmission.
Kyle took the Corvette for a spin and noticed that it wasn't shifting as smoothly as he had expected. "I remember when I took rice from Miata and and I was trying to grab it on the highway," Anthony recalled. "It did not shift and I was just going easy on that one like I was just trying to get it in gear first and letting go." Kyle asked if he could try driving the car, but Anthony cautioned him that his own experience with shifting was limited.
Despite the challenges with the transmission, Anthony remains confident that his Corvette can reach a 10-second pass. "I'd be just as happy bro knowing that it could do it," he said. However, he's not sure if he has a history of success in drag racing. "I don't think I want to be that much better," he joked.
Just then, another driver jumped into the Corvette and started revving up the engine. Anthony was surprised to see the owner walking through the scene, but they seemed unphased by the sudden appearance of an unknown driver. The owner eventually pulled the newcomer out of the car and shut him down. It's clear that Anthony has a bit of experience with unexpected situations on the track.
Despite the challenges, Anthony is making progress with his Corvette. His team recently managed to trap 130 miles per hour, which is impressive considering the car's potential. "They're only ten miles behind the record holder," Anthony noted, referring to the Corvette's struggles at higher speeds. He's optimistic that with further development and tuning, his car will be able to reach even faster times.
Anthony also shared some insights into the behavior of his transmission. He suspected that it might be shifting too early or not at all, which was causing him to lose control of the car. "I think I mean for sure it was locking me out," he said, referring to the transmission's tendency to refuse to shift under certain conditions.
