The Concept of Getting to Zero: A New Goal for Book Lovers
As I sat down to record this video, I couldn't help but think about my reading habits and goals. For years, I've always wanted to read as many books as possible, with a goal of having a TBR (to-be-read) list of around 10-20 books at any given time. This has been my benchmark for success, allowing me to read and enjoy a wide range of books within a relatively short period of time. However, as the world becomes increasingly uncertain, I've found myself with more free time on my hands, and I'm excited to try something new.
The Idea of Getting Down to Zero
I've always said that I never want to get down to zero TBR, but recently, some friends have been talking about aiming for this goal. They mention how it's become a challenge for them, and they're excited to reread books while waiting for new ones to arrive. The idea of getting down to zero is not just about eliminating books from my list; it's also about having the time and freedom to focus on reading without the pressure of needing to finish a certain number of books within a specific timeframe.
I must admit that I've always found this concept intriguing, but I never thought I'd be joining the ranks of those who aim for zero TBR. However, with my newfound free time, I'm willing to give it a try. The goal is not to keep my TBR list at zero forever; rather, it's to get down to a manageable number that allows me to focus on reading without feeling overwhelmed. From there, I can start buying books again, and who knows? Maybe I'll even treat myself to some new releases or authors.
Supporting Indies During Times of Uncertainty
As I embark on this journey, I'm also making a conscious effort to support indie authors and publishers during these uncertain times. With many bookstores and libraries closed, I want to ensure that the authors who have always been my passion are still able to continue creating and publishing their work. This means buying books from independent sellers online, which not only supports the authors but also helps to keep the industry afloat.
Accountability and Community
One of the things that excites me about this new goal is the opportunity to connect with other book lovers who share similar aspirations. I've joined a community on Patreon, where we can discuss our progress, share tips, and offer support to one another. It's become clear that having a community of like-minded individuals can be a powerful motivator, especially during times when we need it most.
My Goal: To Get Down to Zero and Then Reread
So, what does my goal look like? I plan on buying books from indie sellers only, which means waiting for orders to arrive before adding new titles to my list. Once I reach zero, I'll start rereading some of the books that have been lingering in my TBR list, including classics and favorite novels. This will be a chance for me to revisit old friends and experience them all over again.
The Patented Journey: How to Get Down to Zero
If you're considering joining me on this journey, I want to assure you that it's not about depriving yourself of books; it's about finding a new way to approach reading. Here are a few tips for those who might be interested:
* Start by taking stock of your current TBR list and categorize books into "must-reads" and "nice-to-reads."
* Set realistic goals, like getting down to 10-20 books or, in my case, zero.
* Be kind to yourself and remember that it's okay to make mistakes along the way.
Joining the Zero TBR Community
If you're looking for a supportive community of book lovers who share your passion for reading, I invite you to join us on Patreon. We'll be discussing our progress, sharing tips, and offering encouragement as we embark on this journey together. Whether you're an avid reader or just starting out, you're welcome to join the conversation.
I'm excited to see where this journey takes me, and I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can inspire others to try something new and exciting. Who knows what the future holds? One thing's for sure: it'll be a wild ride!
