The All-New Audi A6 Avant: A Spacious and Feature-Rich Estate Car

This is the all-new Audi A6 Avant, a spacious and Porsche-approved estate car that's full of gadgets. It's unmistakably an Audi, with a large A7-inspired grille, but unfortunately, those fake exhausts are also back again. However, does it do better than its rivals? The A6 Avant's interior is stunning, with a large amount of high-quality materials. From the A7, there's lots of glossy metal trim, and you can get classy wood inserts and cool ambient lighting as well. It's all very lovely, darling. One trend that started with the A8 has continued into the A6 Avant: two touchscreens in the middle of the dash. The top one is for satellite navigation and media functions, while the bottom one controls temperature and seat features. All this looks futuristic, but the touch screens just aren't as easy to operate while driving as the old swivel wheel controller system. Sorry, it's true.

The A6 Avant gets an electrically operated tailgate as standard, which is convenient for loading and unloading cargo. Boot volume is 565 litres with the seats up, which is actually 75 litres more than you get with the Mercedes E-Class Estate with the seats down. However, the Merc still has more space in this configuration - a whopping 140 litres more. On the plus side, the A6 Avant comes with a versatile luggage divider as standard, which is also available on the Mercedes.

Prices for the new A6 haven't been revealed yet, but expect it to be slightly more expensive than the outgoing car, which starts from around £35,000. One of the most impressive things about the new A6 Avant is how comfortable it is to drive. Even when running on huge twin 1-inch wheels, it's surprisingly smooth and stable. There are four different suspension options available, which cater to your needs and budget. And if you opt for the rear-wheel steering system, it helps with low-speed maneuvers and improves high-speed stability.

The A6 Avant also comes with a range of exterior lighting options, including matrix LED headlights that can turn off part of their super-high beam to prevent dazzling oncoming vehicles. When the car is turned off, they give a nice little light show. You can get the new A6 Avant with a semi-autonomous driving assistance system that helps steer the car to keep it in lane on the motorway. This system uses ultrasonic and radar sensors, several cameras, and a laser or scan around the car to prevent it from hitting things.
