The Cheapest Stuff on Amazon: A Review of Four Budget Laptops

Hey guys! This is Austin, and today on The Cheapest Stuff on Amazon, I bought the four cheapest laptops that are currently available on Amazon that are brand new with Prime shipping, of course.

First of all, we have the Dell Inspiron 11, which is not only the cheapest laptop here at $170, but we've actually done an entire video on this earlier this year. Put simply, it actually gets a lot of basic stuff right. Unlike a lot of budget laptops, this is powered by an AMD processor and I'll get into that a little bit more.

So, let's take a closer look at the Dell Inspiron 11. This laptop checks all the boxes for what I'm looking for in a budget system: it's cheap, it's got a decent spec sheet, and it's well-built. The keyboard itself is pretty sturdy, although there's a bit of flex on the bottom that could be better. The screen resolution is standard 1366x768, but at least it's not too small. The speakers are front-firing, which is nice, even if they are a bit small and don't get all that loud.

Next up is the Chromebook, which I have to say is probably the best bet for anyone looking to buy one of these four laptops. Not only is it well-built, but it's also got a pretty solid spec sheet, with dual-band AC Wi-Fi and a clean layout. The keyboard is my clear favorite - it's got full-sized keys and a nice touchpad.

The Chromebook is definitely the most reliable connection-wise, with dual-band AC Wi-Fi that's faster than 2.4 Gigahertz wireless. It's also got one major advantage over the other laptops: anything you can do on this sub $200 laptop, you probably can do on Chrome OS.

Now, let's take a look at the EVOO laptop, which is definitely the worst of the bunch. The keyboard is tiny and feels like it was made for children - I'd say it's one of the worst keyboards I've ever used. And don't even get me started on the chassis; it flexes all over the place and sounds like it'll fall apart at any moment.

The other laptops, while not perfect, are definitely a step up from the EVOO. The Dell Inspiron 11 is an absolute tank - it's sturdy and well-built, with full-sized keys that actually feel nice to type on. And the speakers may be small, but they're at least loud enough to get your attention.

But overall, I'd have to say that the Chromebook is probably the best bet for anyone looking to buy one of these four laptops. It's well-built, reliable, and has all the features you need - except maybe a 4K screen, which is just not in the budget. And as always, links to all of these guys will be in the description.

So, should you buy any of these cheapest laptops on Amazon? Well, maybe. The Chromebook is definitely the way to go if you're looking for a reliable and affordable laptop that can handle pretty much anything. But if you're looking for something with a bigger screen or better speakers, you might have to look elsewhere.

WEBVTTKind: captionsLanguage: en- Hey guys! This is Austin, and today onThe Cheapest Stuff on Amazon,I bought the four cheapest laptopsthat are currently available on Amazonthat are brand new withPrime shipping, of course.First of all, we have the Dell Inspiron 11which is not only the cheapest laptop hereat $170, but we've actuallydone an entire videoon this earlier this year.Put simply, it actually getsa lot of basic stuff right.Unlike a lot of budget laptops, this is powered by an AMD processorand I'll get into that alittle bit more in a second. But generally speaking,it is a little bit cheap, but for the most part, you actually get somethingthat is surprisingly usable.Next, we have the SamsungChromebook 3 at $180.Now, this is similar in a lot of ways, but the key difference, of course,is that it is running Chrome OS.It has the same tiny 11.6 inch display. What's different about this is, of course, the idea that instead ofhaving to run Windows,we have a much morelightweight operating systemwhich makes a big differenceto the general performance. Then, there's the EVOO EV-C,which at less than $200,is a little bit of a weird choice. It does come with alarger 12.5 inch displayand there are some cool featureslike a fingerprint sensor. But there are also somemajor, major drawbacks.Three Gigs of RAM is definitely unusual, but with a quad-core processor,it seems pretty solid.I mean, they're prettyobvious about it on the box.Not only does it say on the sticker, but also several times herethat it is a quad-core chip.Except, when you open up Task Managerand see that it is actuallya dual-core Celeron.Which, yeah. That's great. This isn't a total deal-breaker,as several of the other laptopshere are also dual-core,but I think it's more thanjust a little bit sketchy. They advertise it as a quad-core processorand give you 50% of what you're paying. You know what does havea quad-core processor? The Asus VivoBook, whichhas a very obvious amountof stickers and badgessaying that it does,in fact, have four cores.Exactly as you would expect. The issue here is that thisis a much older AMD processor. While it does have decent performance,as you guys will see soon,it's not all that impressive. And even worse,Do you hear that? That's a fan, my friends.Unlike the other laptops, this is not fanlessand it's significantlythicker because of that.As the only laptophere with a 14 inch screen. That is an advantage for some people, and there are a ton of ports. So if you take a look on the side,we have not only USB-C, butalso a couple of USB-A's.We have Ethernet, SD, even HDMI.Flip the laptop over and we havea very convenient littledoor which gives us accessto the two and a half inch drive bay. That is unique among these laptops. All of them, with theexception of the Chromebook, have only 32 gigs of storage, which as you might imagine,is difficult to run Windows on.So, for the most part, you're gonna needto install something likea Micro SD for extra space. But with this guy, youcan very easily upgrade itwith a hard drive or an SSD.When you click on a video talking aboutthe cheapest laptops on Amazon, you probably don't expecta lot of performance. And you would be right. With the Chromebook and EVOO, you get adual-core Intel Celeronprocessor with four gigsof RAM on the Samsungand three on the EVOO.Whereas with the DellInspiron, we actuallyhave an AMD dual-core processor. If we move over to the Asus,it of course does have thatawesome quad-core power. But as you will see,it's not all that it's cracked up to be.Run everything through Geekbench, and the Dell does takethe win slightly overthe Celeron processors. What's especially disappointing isthe performance of that Asus.Because it's such an older processor, even though it's got the fan, even though it's got the thicker build,it is still significantly slower. And that's not just in benchmarks.Use the Asus, and it does feela lot slower for normal use.Speaking of the real world, I do thinkthe Chromebook does feel fastest. Now fastest is a littlebit of a relative term. It's certainly not as quick as any kindof more expensive laptop. But because Chrome OS isso much lighter weightthan Windows, it feels reasonably snappy.I will give it to the Dell for beingthe fastest of the Windows systems.Having that four gigs of RAMas well as a decent CPU,actually kind of okay graphics, does make a big difference. But again, all four of these systems, they're a little on the slow side. And by a little, I meana lot on the slow side.At this price, all of these laptopsare absolutely made out of plastic, but there are fairly bigdifferences in build quality. Not all plastic is the same?I always forget it, what's the phrase? Not all plastic is built the same?Created equal! Created equal! It's not all created equal, guys. The EVOO is definitely atthe bottom of the pack here.I mean, just look at howmuch I can flex the chassis.Oh, you hear that?(laptop crinkling)Ew, yeah.I mean, it'll probablylast you a little while, but durability doesn't really strike meas the strong suit of(laptop crinkling)No.In comparison, the Dellis an absolute tank. And, I mean, it's stillnot super super sturdy, but there's no real flex on the bottom. The actual keyboarditself is pretty sturdy. There's a little bit on the screen, but generally speaking, this does feel likeit could take a little bit more abuse. When it comes to screens, all four of these laptopshave the same standard1366x768 resolution. Now there is a slight advantageto the Asus as far as havinga bigger 14 inch screen, but let's be real, theseare all kind of okay. They're decent, but none ofthem look remotely as goodas something that costs evenanother hundred dollars.Speakers on the other hand, are a little different. So the Dell is the only onewith front firing speakers, but the only issue here isthat they are incredibly small. They sound okay, but theyjust don't get all that loud. The Chrombeook and VivoBook sound fine, but what doesn't is ourgood friend the EVOO.(video playing on computer)Yeah, so I mean, they'retinny, they're quiet.Just not a really good experience, which I guess you shouldn'texpect that much for $200.But all of the otherlaptops sound a lot better. When it comes to keyboards, the Chromebook is my clear favorite. Not only does it have a nice clean layoutand full-sized keys, but it also does havea small but pretty solid touchpad. The Asus is right up therethanks to its full-sized layout, whereas the Dell feelspretty decent to type on.But the main issue here is thatit is a physically smaller keyboard.Look, the EVOO I will be blunt with. This might be the worstlaptop keyboard I've usedin quite a while. Not only does it havea weirdly small layout, but the keys themselvesfeel like brittle, maybe? It is just not a nice place to type.I will give the EVOO this:it is unique in this group in that it doeshave a fingerprint sensorbuilt into the touchpad. And really, there's not alot bad to say about it.It works just as well as the sensorsin much more expensive laptops.Wi-Fi is a bit of a sorepoint for the Windows laptops. They're all limited to2.4 Gigahertz wireless, which really does slowthings down quite a bit.Except when it comes to the Chromebook, which has dual-band AC Wi-Fi.Now sure, these are slower systems, but even if you ignorethe speed differencewhich is fairly significant, you get a much more reliable connectionand that's something that'simportant for any laptop. So, should you by any of thecheapest laptops on Amazon?Well, maybe? The Chromebook is probablythe best bet here. Not only is it a well-built package, but important, pretty muchanything you'd wanna doon a sub $200 laptop, youprobably can do on Chrome OS.On the Windows side, Ilike the Dell Inspiron. Not only is it the cheapest laptop here, but as far as a budget system goes, this checks almost all theboxes for what I'm looking for.So that, my friends, is roundup of allthe cheapest laptops on Amazon. As always, links to all of these guyswill be in the description. If you want to feel free to,you know, check them out.Although maybe avoid the EVOO.
